Is there a site that shows what various mixed breed dogs look like?

Like a boxer dog crossed with a springer spaniel, or an alastion crossed with a pug. There are a bunch of sites showing what Labradoodles (best word I've heard all week) look like and they're pretty cute but it's whet my appetite for more curio dog pics.

I wanna have the drugs Erick's dog is on. I can't stop *rofling* at that insanely mental doggie.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

It is a chow chow crossed with a loo roll holder, from a website I always have a look at when I need cheering up.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

I agree that a site along the lines of what Affection asks for is an urgent and key programming project.

So cute! But my sister is working as a veterinary assistant and has told me Chows are pretty mean, so maybe they're better off being admired from afar.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

They are more stupid than mean, I thought, though the two often go hand in hand, I accept.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently, only afghan hounds, basenji and bulldogs are more stupid

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

Hm, interesting. I had read or been told at some point that chows were v strong-willed and that one should carry out regular obedience training sessions to keep them reminded that The Human is the Boss. Maybe the translation is really "to keep them from forgetting how to walk, in the meantime." Wonder if there's any chance the researchers were mistaking obstinance for incomprehension.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

Urgh -

It's not the chow chow's fault it's so stupid, though. "It's totally understandable," says Coren. "Chows were originally bred as food animals. Who needs smart food?"

In China, some farms still raise chows for meat (folklore says black ones are better fried while others should be stewed). The dogs are not called chows because they make good "chow", as is commonly supposed.

This part:

That said, Barber encourages people to look in a shelter first, as he says, "By all means, save a life." But he likens many shelter dogs to cars bought from a used car lot.

"When you take it off the lot — you don't know if you'll get problems," Barber said. "Ninety percent of the time, dogs are in shelters because people have had problems with them."

is a load of malarkey.

The unacceptable face of goldendoodle ownership

That's nothing, after having seen a pic of a dog dressed up with pink slippers, nothing amazes me anymore...

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 8 December 2005 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

What would be excellent would be a website with two drop down menus and you select one type of dog from each and then it produces an image of that mix of breeds. Especially if you could then adjust which characteristics of which dog the new one shared with a cross-fader.

James Ward (jamesmichaelward), Thursday, 8 December 2005 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

two years pass...

the breed i'm wondering about isn't a mixed breed, but this seemed like the best thread to revive. i used to see a guy walking a couple of really strange (to me, anyway) dogs in my old neighborhood but never bothered to ask him what kind they were though i always wondered. i just saw one this week, and now i'm once again tormented by curiosity. the animal in question is giant, easily the size of a mastiff. the head is pretty pit bull-esque, with small, cropped ears, and the tail is docked to a stump. the coat is silver-grey (sort of like a weimareiner). anyone have any idea what these things are? i've done some internet searching but no luck.

lauren, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

loose skin like a mastiff?

sunny successor, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:40 (seventeen years ago)

nope. slight forehead wrinkles but nothing like what you see on a mastiff. they're really odd and i must know what they are!.

lauren, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

man. i should have just asked that guy years ago what the hell they were, but i was actually a bit scared to approach.

lauren, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

okay wow:

remy bean, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:48 (seventeen years ago)

sort of like that, but with less loose skin and a sleeker head! what is that, anyway? some kind of mastiff?

lauren, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

That is a hound of hell.

Laurel, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

It's lifespan, if not "eternal", would be in the realm of six years before the overworked heart and other major organs collapsed under the strain.

Laurel, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, it is a mastiff. there are lots of types though.

sunny successor, Tuesday, 8 January 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

i looked at more pictures of neopolitans. there's some similarity, but it's not the right breed.
