Are you watching real Takeshi's Castle or western-overdubbed Most Extreme Elimination Challenge?

I saw an episode once where someone did win, and then...NOTHING DIFFERENT HAPPENED.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

The UK version has Craig CHarles sort of narrating it, not the same way as Most Xtreme Etc. So you can hear them speaking in Japanese and get the occasional subtitle, and there's a bit more narrative sense to it maybe, you can tell that teams are getting narrowed down etc but it doesn't really make much more sense than what they show in the US.

I can't decide if this is a huge disapoinment or sheer genius.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

yeah it was the version sgs described. although sometimes there's a different verson in which like they seem to replaced the whole thing with some kind of democrats vs republican FITE thing is that the Most Extreme Elimination one?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

Favourite event: the one where they have to shoot the pink bat with a water pistol while riding a mechanical bull, and if they fail the guy jizzes on them or something.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

do they even tell you what they'd won?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

xxpost if the democrats and republicans were making a lot of double-entendre puns, then possibly.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

i think i've seen this! is this the one that's like humans inserted into a giant pinball/torture machine, usually ending up face-first in glop?

xposts, obv it is

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

there was one event that I loved that had people put into a giant version of one of those perpetual-motion desk ornament things. I also like the human pinball game.

Ken, in the one where there was a winner, Craig Charles exclaimed "and he's won!" or something and then the fireworks on the castle went off, and the credits rolled.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I don't think they actually win anything besides the people's love and respect forever, like in Iron Chef.

Aren't the teams in this like 300 people each?

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

My favorite is the competition where they have to run across rolling logs and inevitably at least 20 people get their teeth knocked out.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

I thought they played as couples and there were loads and loads of teams?

Did anyone see the one where they were riding in large papier mache whales on small train tracks?

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

Bryan OTM, my other favorite event is where they try to sing a song, this whole ridiculous stage audience dances and waves, then a big chinese pirate beats them up and throws them out of the room.

I really think the addition of "guy le douche" and "kenny blankenship" makes the show though. I dunno if I would tolerate it so much in Japanese. Are the jokes as puerile and babaganoosh in the UK?

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

I had no idea what the point of that event was, the singing. You forgot that it was being judged by like Yakuzas. And the stage audience was dressed up like a cross between Afro Ken and Rainbow Bright.

i think in the UK it's mainly this craig charles guy watching it and laughing his head off going "hahahaha this is retarded" a lot!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

Also what is the deal with the guy dressed up as a Captain?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

Not really. The tone is more that of light hearted sports commentary. I prefer it actually, I've never liked the way they make up names for the contestants in the US version, but I guess it's what you're used to.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

I can't believe somebody's won it. How the hell did they do that?

Amity Wong (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

I don't like the made up names for the contestants! It's like the worst thread on ILX, but on TV. The rest of the overdubbing is pretty funny though.

The monsters are always endearingly shit too.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

lots of xposts ...sometimes there are couples, or parent/child, sometimes it appears to be a group of employees or a baseball team, or couples or employees dressed up like a baseball team...this is mostly conjecture on my part, since it seems to be heavily edited. Who knows, maybe they edited out the FANTASTIC PRIZES for the person who wins! The log-rolling is great, pure torturous slapstick. The jokes aren't nearly as puerile in the UK version, Tom, Craig Charles is more a chuckling color commentator and repeats himself a lot. Perhaps they just splice together phrases and he never has to say anything new.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think the fake contestant names are pretty lame as well but since it always busts me up whenever they throw in the one name per episode that ends with "Babaganoosh" I can't really complain. My sense of humor basically begins and ends with dick and fart jokes though, probably why me and Dr Morbius don't ever agree on anything.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 7 December 2005 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

I like when they run across the floating/sinking islands.

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

The funniest running across the islands one was on the Monsters vs Mascots episode where the totem pole guy flapped his little stubby wings as he fell into the fluid.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
I have not seen MXC in a while and it's causing depression I think.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

Well I am not sure you should be expecting it to come on NFL Network, you need to change the channel.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 16 February 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

unless they're showing that round where they kick up an american football really high and loads of dudes dressed up in giant football suits all scramble to try and catch the ball.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 February 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah that's a pretty good competition.
