Has anyone driven a houseboat?

We're thinking of renting on in the spring for a rager weekend... but none of has driven one. Is it that hard? They rent them to drunk college kids in Havasu, after all...

No, but ever since I realized Crockett had one in Miami Vice it's been my dream to live on one.

the houseboat that i captained was actually larger than any of those, and while it was extremely difficult (for me), if you have any experience driving a boat, it's basically the same (but harder). help?

in other words, you can do it (probably [just be careful]).

Be careful positioning your boat when Rodney Dangerfield drops his anchor.

Jesus they're expensive to hire! I guess it makes sense. Don't some places give you basic training before you head out? That may help. Or, you could just putter to a nice quiet river cove by a tree and spend the whole holiday in one lovely spot.

Oh god, how I'd love a quiet peacful river holiday right now.

They are kinda expensive, but between 6-8 people it's not that bad- of the above, we're thinking of one of the older ones, 43-52 footer. They're on the sacramento delta.

it's pretty easy but you gotta realize it's a big-ass boat, and won't stop on a dime or anything. my parents rented boats a lot on family camping trips, and as a kid i drove houseboats, pontoons, speedboats, etc. it's pretty easy, you'll get the hang of it.

and it makes more sense/is easier to tie up at night, to some trees on the riverbank (you'll be on a river, right?), than to drop anchor.

Everyone's going to be half-naked and vaguely homoerotic on andy's boat at all times, apparently.

There should be a different verb for boats, esp. houseboats.

There is, 'piloted.'

Some marinas I've been to will send a guy out in a jonboat to get you into and out of the dock. Other than that, it's pretty easy.
