I’ve just been told my friend has spare tickets and I know nothing about it.

Has anyone been, was it any good, would you recommend it?

It got cancelled last (?) year, or maybe the year before, because it was too windy/wet/cold (which, let's face it, is to be expected in Edinburgh in late December/early January. At midnight). But thousands of people who voted it "best party in the world ever" can't ALL be wrong.

Possible downside - headlining artists are Texas and KT Tunstall. But it is supposed to be good, as organised fun in the freezing cold goes.

Texas and KT Tunstall
ooh dear, that doesn't sound good.

It was the year before last that it was cancelled - at about 9 or 10pm, I think - because of high winds.

That's right, I was in and watching it on the telly, laughing at Alison Craig and Craig Hill (z-list Scottish "celebs") trying not to get blown away and to keep the live broadcast going as thousands of pissed-off revellers headed off back to the pub.

Your post’s are not giving me much hope!

Aw, that was just one year. Seriously, people go from all over the world to go. It *must* have something going for it :)

nine years pass...

I'm visiting my sister & niece up in Falkirk, wondering what to do tomorrow. Is it worth paying 20 quid to stand in prince's st in the pissing rain? Is there anything better going on? Should I try Glasgow more?

*standing in the pissing rain possibly listening to "the twilight sad"

I've no wisdom about tomorrow night (I'm away through the m8 to try a flat party more) but I went to see the kelpies the other day and wd recommend if you haven't seen them already

Turns out edinburgh is further from falkirk than I thought & there is no public transport at all on nyd so I've taken a taxi to Stirling to see what's happening. If my granny's stories are to be believed scots largesse is such that a solitary traveller won't be in a pub 5 minutes without being invited to as many parties. We'll see how that goes, I'm propping up my 2nd bar of the evening without anyone so much as talking to me. (I admit that may be more to do with me.)
