C or D and S/D: 'Legitimate' Movies With Hardcore Sex Scenes, ala "The Brown Bunny"

Asking out of both legitimate curiosity (as well as a shamefully transparent and prurient desire to pad my Netflix queue): What 'legitimate' movies besides "The Brown Bunny" or "9 Songs" feature a scene or scenes of hardcore sex?

In any of the movies in question, could the film not have gotten by without getting graphic?

And this practice: C or D?

Mugged Outside the Jabberjaw, 1993 (Bent Over at the Arclight), Friday, 9 December 2005 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

Even using quotes around legitimate when talking about The Brown Bunny is an insult to punctuation.

Baise Moi. Crap movie though. I was disgusted by it. It showed a rape scene. Nuff said.

Romance
The Idiots

I like this kind of film. Jolly good stuff.

ai no corrida

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 9 December 2005 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

Ai No Corrida (aka In The Realm Of The Senses).
The sex was the whole point of the film, although I guess they could've shown less.

Does George Kuchar make "legitimate" films?
Also, Cafe Fleah.

there's a great scene in the piano teacher where Isabelle Huppert watches some hardcore pron

terrible film, but do you think rape shd never be represented on-screen? it's an extreme position. dunno if i agree, though they're seldom 'good'.

Did anyone see Irreversible?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 9 December 2005 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, terrifying.

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 9 December 2005 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

A Ma Soeur doesn't but if y're gonna see Breillat's Romance you should see it too, not least because it's 50000x better.

Ai No Corrida is a great film also.

Battle ine Heaven. Not seen it. Sounded dumb.

Porno Apocalypse is a hardcore horror movie by D'amato but it's not too good. Erotic Nights of the Living Dead dead is a similar but softcore film by him.

The Night Porter gay sex scene surprised me and my teeny-bopper friends back in the day but is probably quite tame, comparitively speaking

Cafe Flesh was never considered Legitimate was it? I remembe always reading about it as an "arty" porn.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 9 December 2005 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

Doesn't Asia Argento first movie as director start out with her getting raped or something?

John Cameron Mitchell's Short Bus.

Je4nn3 ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Friday, 9 December 2005 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

Re: The Asia Argento movie: "Scarlet Diva"? It opens with a rough sex scene, but she's not getting raped, and it's not hardcore.

Similarly, "Last Tango" and "Irreversible" are graphic, but not actually hardcore.

"Cafe Flesh" was always regular old porn - though the fun tidbit there is that the screenplay was written by Jerry Stahl.

Is "Battle in Heaven" the recent Mexican movie that was causing a stir at Cannes? I didn't know that ever came out.

"Happy Together" starts with five minutes of Tony Leung getting violently yet lovingly butt-fucked; it's not "hardcore" but i wanted to mention it because even though he's with the guy for the rest of the movie there's never any physical affection like that between them again. wong kar-wai said if you show up late you might think it's a movie about two brothers, so the scene was totally necessary, but would anything have been added by insertion shots? i don't think so.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 9 December 2005 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

Patrice Chereau's "Intimacy". Great director, bad movie.

Percival lowell, Friday, 9 December 2005 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

I can't remember. How wild do they get in "Sweet Movie?"

detoxyDancer (sexyDancer), Friday, 9 December 2005 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Ai no corrida for sure. I saw that recently not long after seeing The Piano Teacher, and it was a relief of sorts to see sexuality presented as lustful and warmblooded (if deranged) instead of hateful and cold. They both end violently, but there's actual love in Ai no corrida, albeit of an obsessive and crazy variety. The Piano Teacher is all about self-loathing. I kind of hated it, even though Isabelle Huppert's pretty amazing. I felt bludgeoned by that movie, to no particularly enlightening ends.

Clearly, this topic suggests that we should also be addressing the question of which legitimate movies would have been greatly improved with the addition of hardcore sex scenes.

John Waters' "Pink Flamingos" (which, by now, is probably considered a legitimate film) has an incestual (and, on a factual though not fictional respect, homosexual) oral sex scene. It also includes a scene involving sex with a chicken, dog poop eating & a singing asshole.

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Sunday, 11 December 2005 07:20 (nineteen years ago)

a singing asshole you say?

I don't think Une Vraie Jeune Fille has any penetration in it, but the whole movie's kinky and I think they show worms being dropped on a vadge so it probably counts.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 11 December 2005 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

The French film Betty Blue was pretty strong for its day.

Inserts with Richard Dreyfuss, though not actually hardcore, is about the LA porn industry in the 30s.

I heard a lot a strong stuff was shot for Cronenberg's Videodrome, but was cut for release. The DVD package is two disks (I think), so maybe a lot of it is back as extras.

nickn (nickn), Monday, 12 December 2005 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

It's not hardcore, but hasn't there been some speculation that the sex scenes in Don't Look Now were for real (likely due to the fact that Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland were an item at the time)? They're certainly among the best, simulated or no.

'i spit on your grave' meets the criteria, i think.

actually i kind of like baise moi also.
_l'ennui_ has quite a lot of boning

ronny longjohns (ronny longjohns), Monday, 12 December 2005 03:48 (nineteen years ago)

Baise Moi was horrific. Why did they need to show such a graphic rape scene?

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Monday, 12 December 2005 04:47 (nineteen years ago)

Any "film" that involves Chloe Sevigny getting freaky is totally classic- Kids and Boys Don't Cry to thread (OK they're both really screwed up). I think there was another one with her I saw a couple years ago that was total soft-core porn...something about going to Japan to bump uglies while playing video games...or maybe it was a fantasy I made up.

viborgu, Monday, 12 December 2005 04:52 (nineteen years ago)

Also Larry Clark's Teenage Caveman, which doesn't really have anything to do with Cavemen, but does have plenty of nubile teenagers.

nickn (nickn), Monday, 12 December 2005 07:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeah larry clark's great at awkward 'real' seeming sex scenes. almost none of the scenes on this thread qualify as anything remotely hardcore however, yall might as well mention 'cary grant and eva marie saint in north by northwest' by these standards.

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 12 December 2005 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

This is a timely thread for me, as I just watched Brown Bunny this weekend. I think Gallo is a total ponce, so I needed to see it so I could continue to think that. Well, it worked. What a terrible movie. But, my god what a large wang!

Thriller: They Called Her One Eye (weirdest cut-aways ever)
A Hole in My Heart

I don't recommend either of these movies btw (the latter is nearly unwatchable.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 12 December 2005 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

'a hole in my heart' is the lukas moodyson flic done in (almost) dogma 95 style ??

It wishes, but yes it's that movie.

Does the lollipop in 'The Center of the World' count?

Eazy (Eazy), Monday, 12 December 2005 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

I remember when the first NC-17 movie rating came out. It was touted as the dawn of a new era of intelligent explicit movies. I think the first one I saw was "Henry And June" in a dorm room at school with a bunch of other guys. It was pretty boring, as I remember.
