You also need to include whether or not you liked it.

I just watched some of the wonderful 'Showgirls', in which they admitted a liking for scoffing dogfood. How strange.

I have only eaten dog biscuits.

Mmm dried dogfood is mucho crunchy, that's why it's so good! Like huge grapenuts! I got warned off it though when I was about 5 and it must have worked, because I don't eat it anymore.

Though I will admit to lingering over the bag even now. Just for a second.

Oh, taste. Fairly dull.

Ally C, Wednesday, 9 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dull but hearty and fiber-rich!

A good friend of mine here, Brad Beshaw -- the first guy I got to be friends here in Seattle that I didn't know before moving -- wrote a really neat article about his experience eating dogfood for a week for a local weekly paper here in Seattle called Tablet. He went into the sociopolitical and cultural aspects of why dog food is marketted the way it is, why it consists of what it consists of, etc. Very keen article. I don't think the on-line site has the article on hand currently, but hopefully if you e-mail the general address and ask for it, maybe they'll be kind enough to forward you it.

Brad also does the weekly Hollywood Deathwatch column for Tablet, like this week's. He also runs an underground comics store in downtown Seattle called Confounded Books/Hypno Video, and fronts a band called Luxo Champ.

Sorry for all the plugs, but Brad's a good man and deserves it.

I had no idea one could turn a love of dogfood into a paycheck. I really have to think more about my career.

Even the wet stuff probably isn't that different from, I don't know, baby food or something. I bet you could smear Fancy Feast on some little pita wedges with diced olive, lemon juice, and sprig of parsley, serve them to "discerning" houseguests, and everyone would murmur passionate approval.

I'll say it again: My cousins were big fans of it. They always had some at my grandparents's. :-)

when i was little i would steal my dog's Winalot biscuits, but that was also because my mum ate them sometimes and they were tasty! i wonder if she became hooked on them whilst pregnant with my brother actually. they tasted like rusks.

we do have a history of sharing our food with our animals though. my little brother would share his chocolate biscuits with our dog - it was TRADITION - and i would always let my cat have some whenever i was eating marmite, cheese or custard as he loved all of those. my mum has just got 2 NEW KITTENS and they appear to like tea and porridge!

Dog food yes. Needed salt, quite bland.

Cat food. Yes. Quite sharp. Unpleasant after taste.

Fish Flakes. Yes. Bland & dry.

Mmmmm, Cesar pie.

Jonnie, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Was it Cesar or Sheba that tried to sex up their ad for pet food? It had this woman in a silky dressing gown and she was very close to spoon feeding the cat, and she looked like she wanted to have relations with it. What sick marketing is this? good petfood=happy pet=you are sexy and wanted even though you have unhealthy love for animal.

I hope time hasn't distorted my memory of that ad.

Sheba. Cesar is the new name for Mr.Dog or whatever it was called. It's just for little dogs you know, they're ever so special.

Jonnie, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mr Dog is the new name for Cesar - which was the new name for Mr Dog. I think its a bit like Prince changing his name to squiggle and then back again.

Tried a dog buscuit once, as Mark S, says too hard for teef.

jel, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't believe I have, though the smell of some cat foods is nice and I often thnk of making food from it. I really like the corn that's fed to chickens though.

alix, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No but I once fed my brother Tender Vittles.

Samantha, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no, nut i have drained metho through bread then drank it... it's better chilled, with a twist of lime.

geoff, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No. A schoolfriend claimed to eat dog biscuits quite often but I never saw this. She said they were nice. Hmm.

Cat 1 liked to eat marshmallows: I was v distraught when it ripped a bag of marshmallows I'd just enthusiastically received as a present from my grandmother out of my hands and proceeding to devour half of the marshmallows noisily and slobberily. Bah. Cat 2 likes croissants, presumably because of the butter, and was very enthusiastic about the buttercream filling of a swiss roll recently, although when I next had a slice I deliberately left the buttercream for the cat (I didn't like it much) and it wouldn't touch it. My rabbit liked eating cake, too, even the icing. In fact it was the only family member that liked my mother's attempt at diabetic-friendly fruitcake.

No I never have eaten dogfood, but my dog has eaten mine & liked it much better! He much rather liked cooked plain hamburgers than canned food. He was one for the Golden Arches!( He'd also look at me funny if we drove by them & didn't stop ( He wanted 100% BEEF thank you!) He was something else!
