And the University will not intervene. 2 key questions regarding this story:
1) WHERE CAN I SEE THE VIDEO
2) Surely the University could have chosen another spokesperson (check out her last name)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

I second the recommendation that every read carefully and thoughtfully down as far as the spokesperson's name. I am now going to get a napkin and wipe the Coke from my monitor.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

google "saug33n str1pper".

i lived in this residence during first year. it is absolutely famous for shit like this. during my year a girl got busted for sucking dick in exchange for something called 'zoobucks'.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:51 (nineteen years ago)

also, my sister goes there now.

:(((((((((((((((((((((

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

What's a zoobuck, some kind of big-dicked antelope?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds like a night of clean, wholesome fun.

FiFi (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

I just want to know what zoobucks are!

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

Zoobucks = Canadian bar dollars, surely!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:57 (nineteen years ago)

Well, there's clearly only one way to find THAT out.

xp

FiFi (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:57 (nineteen years ago)

Did I mention my huge collection of "zoobucks"?

FiFi (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:57 (nineteen years ago)

the particular residence is was colloquially known as the zoo. on that particular night they distributed zoobucks to a buncha kids at a party. the idea was that people used them as currency to get others to perform party tricks, such as, i don't know, singing or doing the running man. it was the beginning of the year, and the whole stunt was engineered as a social icebreaker. i think the person with the most zoobucks maybe won a 13" tv or something? i can't remember anymore.

please don't tarnish the student stripper with lame inches jokes.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i've heard loads of stories about that dorm. my dorm (at a competing ontario uni) was only famous for causing a massive sexism stir surrounding idiot guys abusing the 'no means no' campaign :(

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

Grin Drod? I don't get i... ooooh.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

what's so cokespitting about the spokesperson's name?

you're a bunch of zooveniles.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

My parents met there and my mother got knocked-up first year. Luckily she went on with studies after marrying my father and then grad school and eventually had me, her second child. So can I thank slutty Western for my existence? In a way, yes.

that was around 93/94 Rob? i actually kind of remember that. didn't they post things around the women's crisis centre or something?

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

addendum

my friend picked up the zoobucks girl a few years later at a halloween party. he was dressed as a gangster, and she was dressed as... a nurse. which was ironic because, later that night, he took her temperature, in a way.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

kim - it was 89/90. tape signs in dorm windows. 'no means tie me up' was the one that kicked it all off. classy stuff.

There's just something so tawdry and pathetic about trading sex for zoobucks. It's not even real money! And they're called zoobucks! That's worse than having clownsex with Mike Score.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

SEE Western really IS better than Queens...

scout (scout), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

rob, that does sound familar. perhaps people were *still* talking about it - or there was an imitation incident or something. i do know that a male "friend" of ours (i was living in a house with four other girls) thought it would be funny to tape some hardcore porn pictures to our kitchen window. luckily for his continued survival, his far more couth roommate talked him out of it.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

where do girls learn this stuff? seriously, at 18, as a first year college student, how is a girl adept at strip teasing and lapdancing? where has she seen this enough to know how to replicate it, in front of lots of people no less, with cameras no less, about to broadcast over the inernet no less. oh - bingo! the internet.

i'm old. i wonder what kind of whore i would have turned out to be had al gore discovered the internet a little earlier?

nein Socken (nein Socken), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

hell, ignore the internet... how about pop videos?

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, in defense of zoobucks, they have a better exchange rate than our dollar.

the idea was that people used them as currency to get others to perform party tricks, such as, i don't know, singing or doing the running man. it was the beginning of the year, and the whole stunt was engineered as a social icebreaker.

See, the zoobucks performed their stated purpose of bringing people together. The blowjob was inevitable, the zoobucks just provided the excuse. Banning zoobucks will solve nothing!

The incident raises questions about how far a university can go in protecting students, particularly younger ones from themselves.

Most telling sentence in that whole article.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

It would be more grammatical if there were such a thing, in Canada, as a "themselve," and a "themselve" was actually a sort of place, and there were lots of them, and students came from them, but those students were drunk and horny and did wacky things. Thus the incident could raise questions about how far a university can go in protecting students, particularly younger ones from themselves, from themselves.

The uncensored pics can be seen here--

http://voiceofajunkie.blogspot.com/

Judging by the groups of homely losers in most of the pics, my guess is that money was involved in these shows. And if so, what seems to be oral sex in a couple of the shots would probably constitute prostitution.

My best friend lived in Saugeen at the time of the Zoobucks incident and he still laughs about it. My little sister also went on to live there later. From what I've heard from them, and saw on my own during visits, this isn't that out there. Only difference is someone posted pictures. Western has been trying to kick the party school image for ages, and this is not going to help things out.

This happens at universities everywhere. I go to U of Waterloo: a school with a buttoned-down reputation and probably the only university that has more guys than chicks. Yet, during my first year, stuff like this happened in our dorm resonably often. A girl I remember only as Kermit took pictures of herself masturbating and they were passed around via msn. I don't even think that that was consensual, like this incident was. I don't know why people are making such a big deal about it, other than the fact that it confirms stereotypes about Western's student social scene.

I don't get any of this. Where is the comma necessary, and how does that subordinate clause not make sense?

bamcquern, Saturday, 1 August 2009 03:04 (sixteen years ago)

particularly younger ones, from themselves

kid cruti (roxymuzak), Saturday, 1 August 2009 03:06 (sixteen years ago)

"younger ones from themselves"

kid cruti (roxymuzak), Saturday, 1 August 2009 03:07 (sixteen years ago)

No, it still makes sense without the comma. I get what you're saying, but that doesn't mean it doesn't make sense the way it is. The university protects the younger ones from themselves.

bamcquern, Saturday, 1 August 2009 03:27 (sixteen years ago)

It's not beautiful prose, but neither is it broken, nonsensical or somehow grammatically or syntactically wrong.
