One problem with square slices is that the weight distribution is all wrong: too much weight at the front, not enough at the back, where the handle (ie. the crust) is located. So the slice is guaranteed to flop around and be harder to maneuver into the gob. Sicilian slices get around this problem by making the crust extra thick and inflexible.

In my case, it is. Also, with the square pie, you get odd pieces like the corners and the middle. The corners have too much crust, and the middle doesn't have any crust, so how are you supposed to hold onto it? Since the triangular slice from a round pie provides the Pythagorean ideal of crust to surface-area distribution, there's no need to experiment with unproven configurations.
