ONE HOT DOG, PLZ. I AM VERY HUNGRY.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:12 (nineteen years ago)

This reminds me, it's time for Christmas lists. I want Civilization 4. Also, DVDs of sny or all of the following: Simpsons season 4, a Woody Allen movie of your choosing (I have nothing on DVD), Bob Dylan: Don't Look Back, a season of Curb Your Enthusiasm of your choosing, a season of Rocky and Bullwinkle of your choosing (although I think it's season 2 that has the "Upsidasium" storyline), the first season of Miami Vice, the season of Moonlighting of your choosing, and also, my cat needs more toys.

I will of course be buying multiple gifts for each and every one of you.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:24 (nineteen years ago)

(Note: not really.)

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:26 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I could probably stand to own a Bible. I haven't owned one for years, and I'm seriously thinking of attending church again.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:29 (nineteen years ago)

Getting up early, dressing sharp, singing - what's to lose?

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:37 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, Catholics don't even have to get up early. You can go to the second session if you like.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

Or Midnight Mass! It's like goin' clubbin' with Jesus!

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:43 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I think I'll find a really staunchly traditional church and go at midnight the Christmas Eve. I bet that 560-ft-tall church downtown holds a killer midnight mass. I think I'd like to celebrate Christmas in the world's tallest church.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 06:51 (nineteen years ago)

There's a good midnight Christmas Eve service with foxes in furs down at the church across the street (or so) from the Hancock on Michigan Ave.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 15 December 2005 07:22 (nineteen years ago)

I know the church you mean. But I don't know what "foxes in furs" means. Is that in the Bible?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 08:13 (nineteen years ago)

Your search - "foxes in furs" - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

* Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
* Try different keywords.
* Try more general keywords.

Took me half an hour, but I get it. Pretty women in fur coats.

Unless one of them if Jerry Hall and is going to adopt me as a paid male sex slave, it's not really my scene.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 08:45 (nineteen years ago)

Good morning to anyone who's up?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

ne. thanks.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

i mean... me. not ne. "ne" is like "the knights who say..." which i am not.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

morning, manda!

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

yay!

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

what's cookin? i wish i had some bacon right now.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

I'm awake. My back hurts.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

not related to bacon, but all that talk about midnight mass made me sort of actually want to go to christmas eve midnight mass. i like the dressing-up and the singing.

why does your back hurt? hot dogs?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

oh! i have to ask someone this very pressing question:

this morning i came into the office and found a domino right under my chair. a domino. it's a pair of twos.

is this GOOD LUCK OR BAD LUCK? someone tell me!

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Have you seen this? It's a great exchange, however staged. It's the most Christian-looking person CNN could find against the most Jew-y looking person CNN could find, arguing about Christmas.

http://movies.crooksandliars.com/sederchristmas1.mov

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

GOOD LUCK.

The reasons my back hurts are manifold:
(a) The bike. Hunchy.
(b) Low-level stress. Goes to my back.
(c) Haven't been doing any non-bike related exercise as of late.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

4: Four is the number of manifestation and material reality. There are four elements, four sides of a square, four cardinal directions of a compass, four seasons, four winds, etc. It is a number of order, structure, power, and earthly dominion. Four is the number of the prototypical complete family: a father, a mother, a son, and a daughter.

OR, since it's a domino:

2: Two is the number of duality, of coupling, of self and other, of opposing and complementing aspects of reality, of the union of two individuals (1s).

So you're either going to have a kid or start swinging.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

Evan - drink more water. Also try some Aleive and a heating pad, two of my favorite things.

Church talk - I've never been to a Catholic mass, but I have been fully intended to attend a Quaker meeting and just never get up early enough to go. I love the Quakers. They are hard core on social policy issues, and their meetings consist mostly of sitting quietly. I really crave some quiet stillness in my life, and it seems like if I went somewhere that was all about sitting quietly on the outside, it might increase my quiet stillness on the inside.

The only thing wrong with the Quakers is all that God and Jesus stuff, but nothing's perfect.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

There are four elements

last I checked, there are 112.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

OR, Amanda, OR:

You, Dan, Carl, and Junior are a complete family ALREADY and the domino is a message from the universe to remind you that you are a happy woman with a good life and a nice family. OR you're going to get some money (manifesting materiality). But since it's a domino, avoid getting this money illegally but you will totally get caught (because people play dominos in prison).

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

With that kind of sharp cynicism, Kenan, you'll never make it through an entire church service.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Then you haven't checked lately: there's 116.

ZING.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

I think I like this domino. I'm gonna carry it in my purse. (I hope it's not a voodoo domino!!!)

How was your exam, Jenny?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

You're counting Ununquadium, Unuhexium, Ununoctium, and God knows what else. These are bastard elements, and god does not love them.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

I like the symmetry of the domino. Wouldn't it be so creepy if someone had taken a red marker and colored one of the dots red?

Ooh, that gives me the shivers.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

The exam was okay. I did really well on two questions and questionably on the third, so we'll see.

Amanda, that domino is your talisman of symmetry.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I'm gonna be really disappointed if I find out that one of my coworkers planted the domino.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

i know some of your co-workers. your co-workers are not that clever. so relax.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

yeah. you're right. they also think i'm a giant sourpuss and i'm pretty sure they wouldn't trouble themselves to play a joke on me.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

you are a giant sourpuss. but that's why we like you and they don't.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Ahhh, how right you are.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

i know my own kind.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 December 2005 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Good morning! Today is Nick's first day at his new job. He was all paranoid last night - per usual - and checked his email before bed and he had a new one from them, sent at like 4:30 yesterday afternoon. It said, hey, since it's your first day, why don't you start at 8:30? That seemed strange because:
a- they already told him he'd be starting at 6:30 every morning to start and
b- they assumed he'd check his email after 4:30 and didn't call or anything and
c- he needs the hours since he's starting part time.
So then he was even more a bundle of nerves, but he seemed to be in good spirits this morning.

ALSO! That meant I took the bus to work this morning. I forgot how fun taking a walk in the early morning while drinking coffee and listening to my i-pod can be.

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Thursday, 15 December 2005 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

I love taking the bus. Maybe I can take a bus to the worker's center this morning, if I happen upon one. (Waiting for the Broadway bus is nothing I would ever do on purpose.) The last time I took the bus to the worker's center there was a one-toothed African woman barking at people as they boarded. In between stops, she would just scream in her native langauge. It was awesome.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 December 2005 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

I went to a Quaker college and loved that aspect of it. I've been to silent worship and it's pretty impressive, I must say. (But yeah, the Jesus part can be a bit Jesus-y, but they have a really admirable social agenda)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 15 December 2005 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

Jocelyn, where did you go to school?

I'm only going to talk about music on ILChi from now on. and water chestnuts.

valium &
the "hysterical woman"

i'm bored & want to go home now.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 29 December 2005 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

Just last night, I was trying to figure out whether Valium was the same thing as Quaaludes.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 29 December 2005 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

On our long car trip to VA we listened to Shadow of the Dolls (sequel to Valley of the...) on tape. It was pretty good, but sort of like the sequel to Fear of Flying. ("You like the drugs and sex? Here's a TON MORE OF IT.")

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 29 December 2005 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

Whilst we speak of pills, I mean.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 29 December 2005 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

I love sweet potatoes.

Nick - Jaymc, Geoff and I can improvise some fun noodly B.S. on Friday night. Do you want that? I wish we could project a Buster Keaton movie behind us. Or if you want really songs or something, I'd be up for that too.

One housemate took her iBook back to Ann Arbor, so I have less computer access for the next few days - still a little, but not a lot.

I polished up my nylon-string Hoodrat cover this morning, so it will be in fine shape next time the occasion rises to play it.

Stocked up on soap at the Merz Apothecary today.

Happy Anniversary, 'manda!

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 29 December 2005 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

The dinner is ON, by the way -- no more sickies! Yaaaay. I was hoping that I didn't wear heels and a skirt for nothin'.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 29 December 2005 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

rex the dog tomorrow?

deej.. (deej..), Friday, 30 December 2005 02:30 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, where?

It looks like I'm going to be performing with an impromptu group tomorrow, opening for the F. Fictions. Plus, I'm still getting over a cold, so it's probably not a good idea for me to go out for a club, even if it were later.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 04:13 (nineteen years ago)

Good morning.

Who wants to come out to Cal's tonight? huh huh huh? If I'm anything like my loopy jetlagged self from last night at practice, I promise I'll be very entertaining (or at the very least annoying).

This morning I was wide awake when Nick said goodbye to me before 6am, so I shot out of bed, unpacked, put more songs on my i-pod, took a long bubble bath, and played with the kitties.

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Friday, 30 December 2005 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Wake up, sillies. I'm in need of entertainment.

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Friday, 30 December 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ugh, I'm up and at work, amazingly.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

I'm up and at home, AWESOMELY.

gbx (skowly), Friday, 30 December 2005 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

Last night, to promote a show next month, we went out to about eight bars. We played a song or two and had a drink/shot at each (if it was free), and handed about 1,000 fliers. It was fun, completely unlike this morning.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

That's cool you could do that, Jordan. It would be nice to not have so much set up and break down involved whenever we played somewhere. You guys could just parade into anywhere.

Word on the streets is that everyone will be leaving early today! Woo hoo!

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Friday, 30 December 2005 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

I slept in until 9:30 today! Whoa. Tylenol PM is no joke.

Thanks for the shoe and suit support, everyone!

I kind of have an irrational opposition to kitten heels (they are so tiny and wobbly and I am so large and unstable on any heel that I feel like a cartoon fat woman with teeny tiny little feet), and as for sling backs, I have to factor in the possibility that it will be snowing when I go for this interview. At least it's close to school, and I can change shoes in there and clean up before I present myself.

And welcome back Sarah and happy anniversary Amanda! Even though it's the day after, my feelings are very heartfelt.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

I hope Amanda is still sleeping off her anniversary.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you, Jenny.

I love kitten heels, but to each her own. You see, when you are gigantic comme moi and feel like wearing heels, the shorter the better.

Happy anniversary, Amanda! Do I remember correctly that you celebrate the day you met instead of the day you got married?

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I feel like an asshole in a suit for the same reason I would feel like an asshole in holiday specific sweatshirts and stretch pants, or really elaborate brand-name jeans with shiny logos all over them, or Ugg boots... It's just not something I am used to wearing or would normally chose to wear and it makes a statement about me to onlookers that I would not chose to make myself.

That statement being, "I am wearing a suit." I'll get used to it, though.

Amanda has off today.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:18 (nineteen years ago)

hehe hi dudes. i slept pretty late today. we ended up going to brasserie jo instead of frontera grill because the wait there was TWO HOURS and that just wasn't going to work. but we drank a whole bottle of wine and ate tons and got an appetizer (goat cheese tart) AND dessert (mocha mousse thingie).

as for the celebration, there's the day we met (sometime in early august?) which is how long we've been together (six years) and there's the day we got married (yesterday) which is fun to celebrate for no particular reason other than so far our parents have given us money to go out to eat.

dan is sick though -- some weird coughing thing. the good news is that i'm at HOME! ha! this is great.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

I often admire kitten heels on the shelf and on others. It's when they are on my feet that they lose their retro charm and make me feel so oafish. I actually have a pair of brown 9 West kitten heels that I bought for some law school related thing last year. I just feel kind of wobbly in them.

Ooo Brasserie Jo! Jesse talks about that place. Yay for anniversaries!

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

I'm wearing a navy shirt and blue jeans today because I think I was wearing a combination like that in a dream last night. That's all I remember, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

My shoes came! Wow, thanks Zappos!

They are actually a lot dressier looking than in the picture - they are shiny and don't have that squishy leather look that so many "comfort" shoes have. I will try on the entire ensamble this afternoon, but I think they will work.

squirrels-r-FOREVA (pullapartgirl), Friday, 30 December 2005 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

So I made that 6-CD best-of-'05 mix I said I was going to make. I might still tweak a few things: I'm realizing Paul Wall appears nowhere, and he was one of my favorite MCs of the year (maybe I'll replace "Diamonds" with "Drive Slow"). But that's more or less it.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Preemptive strike: I didn't put any F. Fictions on there because I imagine that the new awesome-sounding stuff will be on next year's mix.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

YSI, pls.

Btw jaymc, I took your name in vain on my lj yesterday if you didn't see.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

I'm guessing it was a good dream then, John, if you're hoping to repeat it?

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, I don't think I'm subscribed to your LJ, Jordan! Although I think I know what it is...

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

Sarah, I really honestly don't remember anything about the dream except for what I was wearing! It may not have even been a dream. It was just like, I woke up this morning, and something about wearing a navy shirt and blue jeans felt already prescribed somehow.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

If dream-jaymc walked off a bridge, would you do that too?!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

Nice comment on Sam Prekop, Jordan. That one sort of sneaked onto my list at the 11th hour: I'd forget about it, too, but I always loved it when I was actually listening to it.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

Me too!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Welcome back, Sarah & All! Thread was quiiiiiet all last week, nice to have you here again.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 30 December 2005 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

I slept weird and so I actually remembered some weird dreams I had last night when I woke up this morning. They involved having to go in a public restroom with no shoes, just socks, and getting some weird goop on my feet and climbing to the top of the Sears Tower and Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray and police.

I finished work at 10:30 today so I went to Dr. Wax and found a Fall cd and a Brian Eno/Cluster cd used, both of which I've been looking for for a while.

John, if we're on, can G. and I roll with you down to da club? If we're not on for playing, I'll still likely make it down for the Fake Ficks.
