Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 16 December 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 December 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 December 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

you think everyone's rubbish

crosspost

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

I just checked

he IS that guy and I think he's rubbish

crosspost

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

The most embarassing thing for Langham must be that he was actually arrested 17 days ago but nobody found him famous enough to print the story until today.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

oh, I just read the news

I think he's REALLY rubbish, now

RJG (RJG), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

He wasn;t at the awards because he had the flu, but phoned his 'acceptance' speech in, live.

I didn;t think anything of it, at the time.

now, I go Hmmm.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

Being into child porn, allegedly(!!!!!!!!!), makes you less funny?

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

innocent till proven guilty (if it's someone i like)

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

on the BBC article it mentions that he wrote for Murder Most Horrid.

I had forgotten this show but now I can remember the theme tune clear as day - ARGH.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Chris Langham's only got one character, but it's a very funny character. He hasn't always appeared in the best shows, but he's gold whatever he's in.

If this fucks up the release of "Help" on DVD I'm going to be pissed off.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:16 (twenty years ago)

As I say, it's not about 'ooh bad man' at least not yet, innocent until proven, all tha.

More about "Oh, I won an award, oh but I'm not going outside, not just yet."

Actually, if he hadn't won it, would he be as featured today?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

What the hell happened to John Inverdale?!?!?

NickB (NickB), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

beaten up by Rebecca Wade

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

i love how when a comedy actor is arrested it's always 'TV FUNNYMAN'

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

Even when it's Dawn French.

The Wanderers' Wandering Daughter (noodle vague), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

she was arrested?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

There was that rampage in the Cadbury's factory.

The Wanderers' Wandering Daughter (noodle vague), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I didn't see this thread before I posted to the Iannucci one. All terribly depressing. RJG is wrong but perhaps now he's right.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 16 December 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

What, Chris Langham isn't funny anymore? All of a sudden?

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 16 December 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

I didn't he wasn't funny, just that he might now be rubbish (in the sense that Gl1tter is rubbish [but Gl1tter records perhaps aren't], not in the sense that Joe P4squal3 is rubbish [but who knows?]).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 16 December 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

You didn't he?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 16 December 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

radio 4 woke me up at 7am wanging on about chris langham being arrested in connection with "internet activity".

my first thought was, wow, wonder if he's been leaking loads of BBC stuff to bittorrent?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 16 December 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

They kept saying "internet crime" on my radio. I thought, so it's Chris Langham who's behind all those Nigerian email scams?

We Buy a Hammer For Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 16 December 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

didn't say, ffs

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 16 December 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
15 counts of "making indecent images"

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:07 (twenty years ago)

making?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:13 (twenty years ago)

!!!!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit, that's a lot worse than I'd have guessed... it's a testament to the Beeb's press control these days that I'd kinda forgotten about this while he was racking the awards up.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, making. That's what the BBC "breaking news" headline has it. More Later, it says.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Here is more now.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4762401.stm

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Readers may recall that pedophiles are regularly charged with the
offence of "making" indecent images because a Court of Appeal judgment
holds that since "making" is not specifically defined in the Protection
of Children Act 1978 it should have its dictionary meaning -- and that
meaning extends to the actions involved in copying an image down from a
website and viewing it in your browser.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:23 (twenty years ago)

still really, really rubbish

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:23 (twenty years ago)

Making actually just means (or can mean) having/distributing them on when it comes to computers. By d/long them you have 'made' a new copy. It doesn't necessarily mean he was filming himself having a go on a kid.

(xpost)

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:25 (twenty years ago)

Well, in which case I downloaded John Lennon's "Real Love" demo back in 1998. Therefore, I made it and I should get lots of money.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:25 (twenty years ago)

by viewing any thread you're on, I've made your posts and am v v embarrassed

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:27 (twenty years ago)

ha ha

Making them shouldn't be illegal/prosecutable but distributing them should be.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:27 (twenty years ago)

Good last post, RJG!

the pinefox (the pinefox), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:29 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if this will affect The Thick Of It...we're meant to get a Christmas special and a full length second series next year.

Langham's duaghter appeared in one of the Help episodes too, didn't she?

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 11 May 2006 13:30 (twenty years ago)

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah... the more you read the worse it gets.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

xp, or maybe not.

Apparently Paul Whitehouse is going to be a character witness.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

Jeezo, I'm torn between hoping he's innocent and wanting to kick his fucking head in.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 12 July 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

The Townsend defence doesn't look good tho.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 12 July 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

I like to think of "vintage RJG" being pulled out of a musty cellar in the Dordogne Valley and being dusted off for the celebration of something extremely special.

admrl, Thursday, 12 July 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

Rather than the cheap "house RJG" you tend to get these days. Pauper's mouthwash.

admrl, Thursday, 12 July 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

Why did this take so long to get to trial? Or is this the normal amount of time for this kind of thing?

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 12 July 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

It seems a completely different charge.

Mark G, Friday, 13 July 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

Dom Passantino, Friday, 13 July 2007 09:34 (eighteen years ago)

not good

acrobat, Friday, 13 July 2007 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

really

RJG, Friday, 13 July 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

1) The recent Langham-less "Thick of It" special was really great.

2) Even the perfectly legal part that he admits to is really sleazy and gross.

3) I still can't believe it's actually called "buggery" in the legal charges.

Ben Boyerrr, Friday, 13 July 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

Bit misleading, that. (re part 3)

Colonel Poo, Friday, 13 July 2007 11:59 (eighteen years ago)

i served him once in hmv

you mean you were like "lol paedo" and he ran off crying

Just got offed, Friday, 13 July 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

Oh dear. Even if you buy his side of the story completely, he doesn't come out of this at all well. Way to bury your career for a second time (first time: booze).

Shall delete "anything Chris Langham's been in" from my FB profile faves immediately. (Sorry).

Michael Jones, Friday, 13 July 2007 13:01 (eighteen years ago)

"anything Chris Langham's been in"

.... (naah)

Mark G, Friday, 13 July 2007 13:02 (eighteen years ago)

Jury directed to find Langham not guilty on all counts.

Uptoeleven, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:00 (eighteen years ago)

seriously!?!?!

i heard they had to delay coz one of the jurors broke down when shown an example of child pr0n. i must say if i were a juror that's something i wouldn't want to see. is it really necessary?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

Just heard it on 5Live. Not on bbc news website yet.

Uptoeleven, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

Okay four not all

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/6917085.stm

Uptoeleven, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:15 (eighteen years ago)

ah, presumably relating to the girl he groomed while in 'les miz'. i don't think anyone's deyning an affair happened, just a question of whether it was indecent assault as such.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

"affair" yuck

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

dude, u shag 15 yr-olds when u r 15, not 3 times that kthxbi

You can imagine. "This society will never allow our love! Made for each other two generations apart, we can only flee the conventions that torment and make impossible our union." Er, no, Chris. It's not love you were experiencing, it's the panic of ageing, the desire to experience young love again when you were in no position to do so; you CHEATED at the one-way game of life, and you're getting all that's coming to you. Because when you cheat, someone else (in this case, our young lady) loses.

Just got offed, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

take her, dude.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:38 (eighteen years ago)

It seems hugely distasteful to speculate on this case but what does a development like this generally mean? Four of these incidents never took place or can't be proved or can't be considered a criminal act? One wonders if this sort of thing weakens the credibility of the prosecution witness (plaintiff? Is that only civil cases?) overall in the eyes of the jury.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

NRQ, even for a 20 year-old like me to go out with a 15 year-old would be thoroughly distasteful (well, depending on the 15 year-old either thoroughly distasteful or borderline dodgy, but no better than that). Langham's case has an unfathomable (for me, at least) 28 years' greater disparity.

Just got offed, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

i agree with you louis, but a zing's a zing.

michael i *think* it means that that kind of charge is hard to make stick. a consent issue. i don't think he "forced himself on" her but seems to have groomed her. but grooming is a hell of a thing to prove, especially when her parents seem to have been stupid about it.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

G.O.B and Anne Veale to thread

Just got offed, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

Langham's line on his relationship with this young woman is (I think) that they were close, had one regrettable sexual encounter when she was 18 and she took his subsequent rejection of her very badly and then made a bunch of stuff up. From a saving-your-career POV, this flat out denial of the substance or intent of the affair is probably the best tack to take, but seems to me to leave his case open to any amount of weakening from the prosecution if it can be shown that they met more frequently than he says or any of his timelines can be shown to be questionable. The ch1ld pr0n thing is another matter...

Michael Jones, Thursday, 26 July 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

It's not love you were experiencing, it's the panic of ageing, the desire to experience young love again when you were in no position to do so; you CHEATED at the one-way game of life, and you're getting all that's coming to you.

Life sucks.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

cleared! well, busted for kiddie porn but not for all the stuff with the girl.

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

Career still SO over, though.

Dr.C, Thursday, 2 August 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

"Langham, of Golford, Kent, was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court of 15 counts of making an indecent image of a child."

Cleared! Guilty!

He's joining the Dave Natthews band?

Mark G, Thursday, 2 August 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

Way to bury your career for a second time (first time: booze).

Where does involvement in terrible Caroline Quentin vehicle Kiss Me Kate fit into "worst things Chris Langham has done" list?

ailsa, Thursday, 2 August 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

I liked that show. I'd like to think that wouldnt've influenced my decision as a juror tho.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 2 August 2007 23:19 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Sentence: 10 months, of which he will have to serve 5.
http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1284082,00.html

And boo hoo, he's having a terrible time in prison:
http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1284217,00.html

StanM, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:22 (eighteen years ago)

And where did this bit suddenly come from? Is this the first time it's been mentioned? (I don't recall reading about it)

The jury convicted him of 15 counts of making an indecent photograph of a child between September and November 2005 after a three-week trial which finished last month.

StanM, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

"Making an indecent photograph" = downloading.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 14 September 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

I just the other day watched his episode of the Muppet Show, then hit the Wiki to find out who the hell he was, and then all this. Oh well.
