luna (luna.c), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

probably.

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

50+ is when the real shame sets in.

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was worried about that.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

switch to alcohol and you'll be right back in the mainstream of american society.

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

As if I ever stopped drinking.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

atta girl

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure I know people that old who still smoke. If the cancer hasn't got 'em.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

hmmm...

that would make kyle pathetic too.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

surely 50+ is when it starts getting cool again?

i can't wait to be an old burner.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

burning on your front porch = dudz

if i'm hanging on the porch at 50, my crippling pot addiction will be the least of my worries

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

burning on your front porch = dudz

This is me!

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

are you all high right now? A nice porch is the best thing in the world. And if its yours you damn sure have the right to smoke on it.

Laura H. (laurah), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

yeah you really should've perfected brownies or some other edible method

oops (Oops), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

and you turn into my junkpile neighbors' house of middle-aged toker bachelors, who'd be out front or in their back yard at like 6:30, lighting up with the crack of dawn and drunkenly arguing with each other.

one of them was the doppelganger for Carl from ATHF, only without the wit

kingfish holiday travesty (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

if you're asking and its a cncern for you then probably. both of my parents are in their 60s and smoke way more than i do but i also drink and they dont.

howell huser (chaki), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

are you all high right now? A nice porch is the best thing in the world. And if its yours you damn sure have the right to smoke on it.

not quite the best thing when it is 10degrees outside. i am between homes for a months or so and crashing with (allergic to smoke) friends and smoking outside is kind of a drag but in a way its a ok.

kephm (kephm), Friday, 16 December 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

As i get older, I find the weed less and less fun... I wander the streets and worry, usually. But right now I have some bonafide medical weed called "Purple Thunder" - it comes in a pill bottle with a label, a barcode, a warning about "may cause drowsiness," etc... and I think it's sativa because it's more relaxing and social, i.e. I don't mind hanging out and chatting instead of hiding at home.

andy --, Friday, 16 December 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

did you get it from a doctor yourself?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 16 December 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

My friend's uncle quit a few years ago when he turned 75. Apparently that's when you're too old.

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 16 December 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

- I make excellent pot brownies
- it's not a concern really, I was curious to see what y'all thought
- I am not high right now, and consequently agree with you re: porches, Sam.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 16 December 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

fwiw, I had no real intentions of stopping, again, just curious.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 16 December 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

ile has been known to look down on people younger than 33 who smoke pot, so dont know why you're asking here

oops (Oops), Friday, 16 December 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

i quit drugs long ago and don't smoke weed anymore, because i want to be a parent soon. and i feel like i won't be a good role model and responsible adult if i'm sitting around getting high and doing nothing. (i'm one of those worthless stoners who becomes UNmotivated)
also, i don't want my kids to grow up thinking that it's "okay" to do stuff like smoke pot. i want them to have an aversion to casual drugs as long as possible, at least until their own adulthood. so i can't be a hypocrite.

i don't think you're pathetic, i don't want to judge anyone. i'm just telling you my own thoughts. i'm 33.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Friday, 16 December 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Luna babe I didnt START smoking pot til I was almost 30. Damned if I'm ever going to worry what anyone else thinks!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 December 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

Whether your activity generates pathos would depend more on what you do in the few hours after you smoke pot. The mere act of lighting up has no pathetic potential to speak of. However, if you grovel or collapse, spin dreams that invariably shatter, or sing plaintive songs to kittens who quickly abandon you to the gutter, then your pathetic potential skyrockets!

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

My wife still smokes loads of pot and she is also 33. I don't think it's pathetic, why should it be? Someone else said above, people still drink in their 30s, some people prefer dope instead.

I am thinking I will probably try to cut down when I hit 30 next year, but that's just me, I'm not very productive when I'm stoned, but my wife doesn't have that problem, she can do anything stoned.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

i wish the pot smoking stigma would just fucking disappear already

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:10 (twenty years ago)

come to canada

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

No shit.
Trayce, wtf took you so long to start smoking?

xpost

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

It's getting silly here. I saw for the first time last night a "don't burn and drive" ad on tv!

There's also been a noticeable increase in people randomly sparking up while walking down the street.

People aside from myself.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

ah "canada"

sounds like a wonderful place

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

there is a stigma, about drugs?

calderdale in the 70s (gareth), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:22 (twenty years ago)

oh, i see, you mean, in the wider sense? *my drug hell* type stuff for the media?

calderdale in the 70s (gareth), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:22 (twenty years ago)

no, i mean the stigma towards older pot smokers. that it is juvenile, crunchy, etc.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

Trayce, wtf took you so long to start smoking?

I never knew people like you! =)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

Also cutty OTM.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I don't see why it's any different to older drinkers really. It's a load of old bollocks innit.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it's kind of what doesn't make sense about it being illegal. but it's the gateway drug, donchaknow (i learned that from c-span)

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

It sure is, its what started me smoking cigarettes, ahahahah.

(I wish I was joking).

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:39 (twenty years ago)

...Vancouver seems like the most glorious place on earth. Montreal's pulling a close second.

giboyeux (skowly), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear, shame you got into cigarettes through pot, that is a bit of a curse. They're both quite intertwined for me, I started smoking cigarettes about 3 months before smoking hash.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 17 December 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

Not only Willie Nelson, as mentioned upthread, but also Robert Altman and Neil Young.

Wow, pretty weird how many powerhouse creative geezers still get high, huh? Or maybe it isn't.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Saturday, 17 December 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna roll me a nice big spliff right now. I'm not quite in my 30s yet though, so I suppose I'm allowed.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 17 December 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

just a quick slightly-nosy question for everyone over 25 still smoking pot:

how much do you spend (weekly/monthly) on pot?

when i was not smoking pot, i was not spending $500 a month on it.

just curious.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 December 2005 03:51 (twenty years ago)

I don't spend 140 quid every 3-4 weeks on it. This isn't for 2 people.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

This batch seems to be full of sand, but it gets me stoned really quick, so I shouldn't complain.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

i spend about $150/month?

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

good. self-control is good!

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:13 (twenty years ago)

i quit drinking for similar (economic) reasons. i just spent $3.75 on a bottle of pellegrino. who the fuck can afford to drink in this ripoff town?

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

This batch seems to be full of sand, but it gets me stoned really quick, so I shouldn't complain.
-- Colonel Poo (colonelpo...), December 16th, 2005 8:05 PM. (Colonel Poo)

OMG - that's not sand!!!!!

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:15 (twenty years ago)

that's psychoactive crusty eye mucus from hallucinogenic blue monkeys!

worshipped by ancient belizeans for giving them access to shamanic visions

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 17 December 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

I just read this: burning on your front porch = dudz

-- kingfish holiday travesty (jdsalmo...), December 16th, 2005.

as something something = dudes and I thought what the fuck does that mean?

and then I remembered I ate a pot brownie earlier.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

Okay, five.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

THey never stopped talking bullshit to each other! and since they continually inhaled smoke into their aged lungs, the bullshit rhetoric was punctuated by extended coughing jags.

Just the thing to wake up to with an open window at 6:30 on a thursday morn.

kingfish holiday travesty (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

no that's not what I meant. i meant I just read your "duds" as "dudes" and for some reason, it all of a sudden made no sense. I NEVER LEARNED TO READ!

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

It would be a nicer world if people stopped drinking at a certain age and didn't worry about smoking pot until the end of their lives, instead of the other way around.
