Which MTV VJ was exposed as a bald wig-wearer by John Lydon during an interview?

That was really sad. The look on his face. :-( He disappeared from MTV shortly thereafter and I wonder if he had a career after that.

No, it was Dave Kendall.

...and his most embarassing moment was asking Mark Gardiner of Ride how big an influence The Church (the band) had been on Ride.

Thanks, Alex. Good to see he appears cocksure and careered. His expression really looked like he was about to jump out the window.

Wait, what am I missing? It's kind of a dumb question, I guess, but in terms of timeline and all it's not impossible that Ride could be influenced by early Church records. (I guess it's more just bad etiquette to ask bands if they're influenced by competitors on basically the same level, people that usually get called their peers?)

Dave Kendell was a tool. And I don't mean the band. I remember when he was just the "UK correspondant" or whatever and would give the top 10 charts. Bring back Kevin Seal! Kendell would make fun of all sorts of jangly guitar bands that say "here's another really powerful one from the Mission UK". His interviews with Sonic Youth, the Ramones, Nine Inch Nails are all hilarious. Please post a link to the other Dave Kendell site, the one filled with stories of him macking on teenage girls.

DAVE KENDALL: "So, where did you come up with the name 'Ned's Atomic Dustbin'?"
NED'S ATOMIC DUSTBIN: "You know, um, to be honest with you, we really hate that question."
DAVE KENDALL: "THEN DON'T NAME YOUR FUCKING BAND 'NED'S FUCKING ATOMIC DUSTBIN'!!!"

Oh, it's not impossible at all, really, but it was sort've a presumptuous leap on Dave's part, and Mark just looked sort've incredulous and said "No influence at all." It just made Dave look rather uninformed in a big, big way. It wasn't like he wet his pants or dropped his wig or anything.

But watching it was just uncomfortable.

Actually, if that Ned's exchange really happened, then the guy was a hero.

Back in those days, a friend of mine had a pretty funny comedy bit about Dave Kendall hosting ESPN speedweek and would do an interview between Kendall and Cale Yarbourough. The couple of times I saw him try to do it live it never worked as most of the crowd had no idea who he was talking about, but I thought it was pretty funny.

OMG that Ned's story is amazing!

So did lydon snatch off his wig or something?
