Mary McAleese in Buying milk in Tesco on a Sunday night, unaccomapnied* shocker!

Sometimes the relaxed nature of this country makes me laugh.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

haha. In fairness she's got fuck all else to do.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

In Other News: McAleese seen wandering around Pool Halls. McAleese spotted outside chip shop with friends, hooded. McAleese makes shock appearance in news report.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

I have never heard of her. This makes me very embarrassed.

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

She never does anything!

Mary Robinson was in the news alot. Mary McAleese alot less.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

I have heard of her!

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Yeah exactly! There's often rumours Ronan Keating will run for President one day.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

I once saw him in a chipshop.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Nadine Coyle will probably beat him to it.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

(Not the chip shop.)

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

that would go down well with the ORANGE order

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

sorry

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Nadine is the ORANGE poster girl.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

That's why she wears so much fake tan.

Lara (Lara), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

Didn't that one that won the Eurovision become president?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

No, MEP.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 December 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

I saw both cuntish journalist John Waters and sinister industrialist Dermot Desmond today. And I punched neither of them in the face!

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 18 December 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

I walk by McDowell dropping off his kid at school most days. He is as ugly in real life.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 19 December 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

I once yelled rude things to our current president. That was before she was a president, though, back when she was the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 19 December 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

Now you just text rude things to her.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 19 December 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

I saw Douglas Hurd in Tesco once.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 19 December 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

I'm rather pleased with myself for working out this was an Irish thread before opening it.

(Doesn't take much, I know)

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 19 December 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Anyone actually seen the Queen picking up her groceries from Waitrose?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

No, but I saw her in Fortnum & Mason.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

After all the revelations about how she lives you'd expect the queen to be in Asda.

I wonder how many people would recognise Mary? I was at a concert a couple of months ago in the NCH and the only way I noticed her was the bright suit, not the security presence. Rather nice really that she feels safe popping down to the shops.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 10:17 (twenty years ago)

i met peter kay and steve coogan in our local tesco this summer. darren fletcher and alan smith were in that week too, but they were crap. no political presence this far out west, unless you count enda kenny. and let's face it, no-one does.

D.arraghmac, Tuesday, 20 December 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Ouch. I work opposite FG and we were blessed to see Enda face down the vicious mob (about 40) of Irish speakers incensed at his statement re. the Leaving. He said something in Irish and ran away. I still prefer him to Noonan but that's not saying much.

They don't need to worry about banning it at Leaving level though (Irish I mean) as I was with four Irish adults and not one of them could understand what was happening.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

darren fletcher and alan smith were in that week too, but they were crap.

How crap can you be at buying groceries?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Noonan is my Uncle.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

His sister is my mum.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, and hang on a sec: Darren Fletcher and Alan Smith buy their groceries together?

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

I don't know what he's like personally but when I saw him speak he was uncomfortable and unconvincing, sorry. Small country, you have to be so careful about what you say about anyone ;)

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

haha I was just messing trying to make you feel bad. He actually is my Uncle though.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Sure if it matters I was only there for the free booze as were most of the other students so he probably felt like a rabbit in the headlights, we were THIRSTY and he was in our way!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I saw the Queen open the Thames Barrier, c.1984, I think.

Meanwhile - I am trying to get in touch with the DIRTY VICAR. Can anyone advise? I have his telephone number but my telephone will not seem to ring it.

the finefox, Tuesday, 20 December 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Say his name 5 times while looking in a mirror?
