KARAOKE BOWLING!!!!!!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

WITH BEER!

RickyT, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Bowling! I got two strikes in a row without my glasses on. Proving that if you just throw it straight, you win.

jel, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well is there any wonder i haven't won a bowling game in my life Karaoke!

geoff, Thursday, 10 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We played darts on mine and it was ace, especially the free food that we were given.

chris, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The comic potential for both is very high. But some of my friends hate bowling, and others would rather die than get up and sing in public. So I guess it boils down to which one you reckon will have the highest "up for it" quotient.

Trevor, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Speaking as someone who is exceedingly bad at both bowling and singing (but obviously blessed with talents in a multitude of other much more important areas to compensate) I would much rather do karaoke as I have found bowling to be the ultimate in public humiliation in the past. Also in my experience you can get drunker doing karaoke as you don't have to keep putting your drink down to chuck a heavy, fingernail-breaking ball down an alley / gutter. And you can't smoke in the sit-downy bit. What sort of a night out is that?

Emma, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rock 'n' Bowl at Rowans comes close to the beautiful concept of Karaoke bowling.

Jonnie, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You can see Rowan's from our flat. I still prefer the fine art of karaoke to the common sport of bowling.

Emma, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rowans is ace, bowling in the true big Lebowski sense, especially upstairs. And I don't particularly like bowling that much, but I do like Rowans.

chris, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma, surely you must get tempted to distraction by the prospect of going for a quick bowl every single night of the week?

Jonnie, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rowan's is indeed one of the finest emporia in London. I got into the "all-nite boozing" Snooker hall bit and had a 2.5 hour game of snooker - because its very hard isn't it.

Pete, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I find it kind of classy that you have to pay a pound just to get past the gate at the front door.

chris, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah snooker always seems like such a good idea and you always think you'll play great and get breaks but you never do and as Pete says the game goes on for about 2.5 hours and most of the points are because of fouls. pool on the other hand is nice and simple.

Ronan, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Theory : all pub games are much better when you are crap at them. Once you get good at snooker & pool & darts, its just a matter of who starts first.

Exception: darts. Best when mediocre. (If you can't hit a double its the most tedious game in the world).

Pete, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well yeah that's sort of right because with the snooker it's all about who can actually hit *anything* 2 hours and many pints into the match.

Ronan, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oddly enough, when I am curled on our comfy sofa in front of Eastenders I am never ever seized by the urge to trudge out into the night and head towards the sinister pink neon of Rowans. Bowling is rubbish.

Emma, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Philestine!

Jonnie, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

anthony, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(hangs head in shame)

Jonnie, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Emma, what sort of posh bowling places do you go where you can't smoke??? In answer to the question, go bowling for abt three in the afternoon, have a couple of games and a few beers, go for curry/pizza (with more BOUZE), then go to karaoke (and drink til you fall over). shurely a perfect day out :)

CarsmileSteve, Sunday, 13 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ha! carsmile: you have amazing psychic powers and the wisdom of king solomon! that's almost exactly what we did, except bowling started at 5 and the big dinner in between bowling and singing was chinese, not curry or pizza. now, sunday morning, working my way through a pot of coffee and searching for the hangover remedy thread.
