What was the last advert that worked on you?

I find myself constantly trying to resist Macdonalds adverts - hmm 99p menu, chicken mayo not tried that before I wonder what it will taste like.

Obviously it will taste like a scrawny crap chicken burger and yet....

It does indeed taste like a scrawny crap chicken burger.

I have switched to Persil non-bio powder because the Powerpuff Girls told me to in an SMTV ad break.

Being a vain gullible fool who is easily parted from her money I always believe shampoo ads despite knowing that they have spent 4 hours, 12 buckets of serum and got in top notch lighting blokes to make the models' hair look that good. Hence the 4,112 half used bottles of shampoo in our bathroom.

Egg just got me. I needed a credit card and they seemed nicer than HSBC. I since found out they also have a lower APR, but niceness was the major factor. (I'm really ashamed I admitted that.)

Anna, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ho, I got an Egg credit card cos rumour on THE STREETS was that they were easy. The fools! They've upped my limit too! I don't know what APR means! I know what it stands for but I don't really know what it means. I'm broke. Waaaaah.

I'm extremely suggestible. The only things that don't really work on me are CAR ADVERTS. Or the Currys advert w/ new Currys Family k-l4m3rZZZ. However I'm also BROKE so physically can't spend money on luxury goods/washing powder yah chiz. I actually can't think of the last one that worked on me - the McDonalds one hasn't made me immediately rush out to go and get some. However, my copy of Fast Food Nation lying next to me is making me crave a flimsy cheeseburger and fries. Mmmmmmm.

NB Anna I was not calling you a ho just then.

Sarah, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But Sarah, we're all hos in this life.

Last ad that worked on me...dunno, really. Since I don't watch much TV and what I do watch means just self promos for Fox Sports World and the Food Channel, I guess it would have to be programming for them.

KFC had an ad and it reminded me there actually was a KFC in Dublin. Soon after hearing it my hands were covered in that lovely brown grease.

Ronan, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And what happened after they found you in the kitchen playing with the frying medium?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My parents sent me to military school and somewhere in the distance a tremeloed guitar went "wahhhhawahhhh" in Saved by the Bell stylee.

Ronan, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Drat. I thought this would be some kind of Haruki Murakami threat.

Josh, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Definitely the fried chicken head for McDonald's.... (that was an ad, right?)

Brian MacDonald, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

food ads have the extra power of catching you when you're hungry.

Ronan, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, in that vein I am never EVER going to pick up the "Slomin's Shield". It's like if a thief ever came in the window that whole fucking family is going to show up and scare him off with their horrible singing. Bars on the windows will do me fine, thank you!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 11 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

only food ads can catch me. Pizza, cereal, and grapefruit juice ads give me the strongest cravings.
