ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

I don't know how. Is there a quick and easy way of doing it?

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

mine does this. i don't think it makes any difference at all.

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Well, it does at the moment, cos I need to see the thing on google.com that says "currently indexing x,000,000,000 pages" or whatever, which isn't on the co.uk page.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

I think they've stopped putting that count up, Jim.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Indeed.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Ah, bugger. Thanks!

Anyone know how big google is then, these days? In terms of indexed pages?

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, Jim, try http://www.google.com/webhp

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

http://www.google.co.uk/press/facts.html says "more than 8 billion".

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Install the googlebar extension for firefox, in the prefs under Google Searches you can choose what country google you want to use.

svend (svend), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

Try going into Language Tools and look under the countries listed under "Visit Google's Site in Your Local Domain." See if the US is listed (which I guess would be the U.S.).

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

That probably doesn't help though, defaults, blah blah blah. Listen to everyone else.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Also I obviously didn't read the part about what you were really looking for. I am a bad librarian.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

No no, you're all very helpful, thankyou. I've got what I need now. So, google currently have a market capitalisation of $127bn, and index 8bn pages. That's $15.87 per page. Jeez.

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Down the bottom right, click "go to google.com". It'll remember.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

And why do you want to do this in particular?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 22 December 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

He said.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 22 December 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

I don't understand the google logo this morning. Is the cat trying to electrocute the mouse?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

And why is the blue g a window with a blue cloud behind it? I thought the mouse was holding cheese at first, but it's the thing the cat wants to plug into. Perhaps by the 25th there'll be a big light display brought to us by the scrawny cat and mouse! Oh how they light up our lives.
