maybe this is totally normal, but tiny blips of past time keep leaping into my brain, quite often.

Yeah, I think this is normal. It's also fun.

most of them relate to the siege of khe sanh.

I would estimate I get one seemingly random (ie. unconnected in any way I can rationalise to anything I'm experiencing or thinking about) blip-flash once a week or so, but it's hard to judge. Usually just of places from the past. Not so much events.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 22 December 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

YES places, totally.

ugh, i have this a lot! in 8th grade my mom was supposed to pick me up after school so i was waiting outside. another woman with the same color hair driving the same car was there waiting for her daughter (who i knew vaguely). i opened the car door and there was some kind of figurine hanging from the dash which i didn't recognize and i said "what's this?!" then i realized it wasn't my mom and i had the wrong car. i can't stop remembering this even though it was 9 years ago! she must have thought i was "special" or something! it just flashes into my brain whenever it wants. other things too, usually embarassing things.

i remember the place, rather than the activity, where i spent a day emptying a load of junk into a skip, from my neighbour's office. a fairly unmemorable day.

what's odd is, the night following the day *was* a big deal, but i don't have it impinge on my consciousness in the same way.

It's smells that do it. It's so evanescent - someone sits next to you on the bus and the smell of their jacket transports you to a dark bedroom in 1983 and you're writing in green ink on lined A4 paper in front of Sunday Grandstand. You can even feel a hint of what you felt then.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

smells do do that, it's true. but this one ain't smells.
