The scary fucking noise from the roof…

… that I just heard …

… has given me goosebumps and ice-water along my spine. It was shrill and high-pitched (in the upper human vocal range) and reminded me of the squeal-shriek a balloon makes when it's being deflated. My dog heard it too: she curled her lip. My sister screamed at it.

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

… it lasted for about two seconds and afterward two neighborhood dogs woofed, distantly…

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:40 (twenty years ago)

[This is especially freaky because we live at the end of a 400 foot long driveway and the noise was definately from just outside the house.]

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

Oh, hey dude. Is it cool that I'm crashing?

giboyeux (skowly), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

The skylight's unlocked.

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

it's santa!

ryan (ryan), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:43 (twenty years ago)

clearly his GPS is fucked.

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

Do you live in an area with wildlife? Some animals make bloodcurdling noises.

Aimless (Aimless), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:45 (twenty years ago)

so it's defintely something alive you think? where do you live?

ryan (ryan), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:45 (twenty years ago)

Maybe Diamanda Galas is your next door neighbor!

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:46 (twenty years ago)

Now a big sheet of snow just cascaded off the porch. I'm really convinced a pterodactyl or something has landed up there.

(I'm on the Rhode Island border at my parent's house. I lived here until age 18 and didn't hear any such noise during that time, except for when I pulled the crap out of Sharon Noonan's pigtails during my 8th birthday party.)

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

How high can raccoons jump?

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 04:58 (twenty years ago)

Plenty high. Also, they climb trees. One spent an entire summer tearing the shingles off my parents roof, apparently just to fuck with them.

John Justen (johnjusten), Friday, 23 December 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

(parents' house xxpost)

and yeah… I just heard the sound of ice-chunks CRASHING.

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

sounds like a critter. can raccoons make noises like that?

ryan (ryan), Friday, 23 December 2005 05:09 (twenty years ago)

Fuck having the last name "Noonan".

Hot Garbage, Friday, 23 December 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

Do you have foxes in the area? They sometimes make this weird bloodcurdling scream that sounds like a terrified woman being attacked.

Well, that image ought to lighten the mood a bit. Sorry.

John Justen (johnjusten), Friday, 23 December 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

'twas the howl of the banshee

ducks, Friday, 23 December 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

… nice, just heard the fucking SKREEEK-GRATE of 6" deep glare ice cleaving along the shear-strain on the pond out front. That does wonders for the frazzled nerves. Sounds exactly like a car-crash, slow-speed.

remy (x Jeremy), Friday, 23 December 2005 05:40 (twenty years ago)

Diamanda Galas is my friend's neighbor!

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 23 December 2005 06:16 (twenty years ago)

Go up onto the roof in your underwear and confront the creature, horror film style. Then tell us about it, if you return.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 23 December 2005 07:43 (twenty years ago)

"I know you! You are the same raccoon who took my father all those years ago! Well guess what: I've all grown up now and I ain't afraid of you anymore!!"

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 23 December 2005 07:47 (twenty years ago)

Remy? Remy?

There's no answer. I'm going up there. No, don't try to stop me! (Strips to underwear.)

remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 24 December 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

Maybe he'd be cuter stuffed and on top of your telly?

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Saturday, 24 December 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

How do you know its a fisher cat? Maybe its just a regular cat. That seems more likely

Mike Hanle y 3000 (hanle y 3000), Sunday, 25 December 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

Cats don't leave bloody rabbit legs strewn across the snow. Also, they don't scream like banshees. I am 10% afraid to leave my house, now.

remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 25 December 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

It's the Hulk.
Or possibly hulkdogs.

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Sunday, 25 December 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

any possibility of it being an adventurous (read: rabid) coyote?

elmo, patron saint of nausea (allocryptic), Sunday, 25 December 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

It's very possible, but my father talked with a neighbor who (seperately) IDed a fisher last week. We're thinking of calling DEM/Animal Control on Monday but we're worried that they may choose to kill it rather than trap/release.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 3 February 2006 20:35 (twenty years ago)

Someone should go up on to the roof and help him. Alone. The rest of us should split up and search the forest until we get lost. Perhaps one other person should stay in the house to freak out.

ratty, Saturday, 4 February 2006 01:46 (twenty years ago)

Maybe the Fisher King brought him to a magical new land: China.

Every night when I'm going to sleep I can hear something moving about in the loft. I know there are birds nesting up there, but it'd have to be a big fucking bird. Too scared to have a look :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Thursday, 4 May 2006 11:38 (twenty years ago)

wierdly enough i heard noises from my attik last night too.

as long as they stay up there though, meh

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 11:48 (twenty years ago)

Noises in attics always sound louder I think. We had a rat (one rat) in our attic and it sounded like a dog running around. When we called a rat catcher (and I not making this up) he came with a dog - dog and rat ran around for about five minutes sounding like pack of elephants in attic. Terrifying (not least of all for the rat).

Anyway what did happen to Remy?
