I was trying to think of things for the "New things you tried in 2005" thread and realized it's been almost a complete stand-still for me for the last 12 months or more. Haven't tried anything new, really, haven't done anything interesting, have only kept body & soul together sometimes by dint of an increasingly desperate hope that things will look up. I mean, that's the darkest-possible view and I could name some positives if I reached but 2005 has been pretty constantly awful.

That is true, and I'll see 'em again soon. Making bigger circles of my social life and specifically cultivating people has been one of the few deeply satisfying things about the year.

my father's mother died last night. i feel bad for my dad, but this woman has been pretty much dead to me since i was twelve. i have to find a plane ticket to philadelphia for her funeral on saturday, which also happens to be my birthday. this will be fun.
