Imagine you were an indie rocker. Imagine your girlfriend was a rapper. Called Sunshine. How would you make a mixtape for her to cement your love?

i have wasted my life

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

I love how he says it is her "rap" name in scarequotes. What a strange lad.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 01:39 (twenty years ago)

this whole thing was dreamed up as ilx bait

Mr Straight Toxic (ghostface), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 01:41 (twenty years ago)

Thunder, Lightning, Strike!

Mitya (mitya), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

as an indie rocker, i can tell you i if i was given that tape it would go straight in the bin

jim p. irrelevant (electricsound), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

Hahah yes, I thought it was pretty rubbish myself. I dont even know some of the songs by by god his reviews were offputting. It was as if someone had forcefed Zach Braff with sugar syrup and Star Trek stuffed toys.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Did anybody notice that he's only seventeen.

Camtron (Cameron), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

I did and I can assure you I wrote just as badly and effusively when I were that age, so I kept it in mind.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

aw, this is cute.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

It's terribly cute. The way he also seems to send a message out with the choice of song titles.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

razorlight lol

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

I know, but man, he's only seventeen!

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

he's far too young a boy to aim for such preciousness

kingfish holiday travesty (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure terrible indie was better when I was 17, but I can't think of concrete examples, but surely I wasn't listening to anything as awful as Razorlight in 1998.

Nonetheless, if I got it, I'd be impressed with the boldness of the gesture but wouldn't like the tape very much.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

Well, that's it. I'm changing my rap name to "Intermittent Drizzle."

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

"Sunshine" is not as good a rap name as "MC Stylised Vadge", either.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

edward, if he'd be our age, he'd probably have picked Live or something?

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

I don't see Live and Razorlight as being equivalents, really. Live really MEANT it, man! Rubbish as they are, Razorlight are at least, well, in the general direction of fun.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 05:00 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking of something as bad as Razorlight. But I can't think of anything that sounds similar. How about EVERCLEAR?

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 05:02 (twenty years ago)

Oh, god, 14-year old me might totally have put Everclear on a mix tape, but at least he wouldn't have thought it was profound.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

I kind of want to keep up with this guy to see what mix he makes when he and Sunshine break up.

Camtron (Cameron), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Valerie told me during our first week together that this song reminded her of me.
At what age do comments like these (from either partner) stop being endearing? I know I got away with it then, but I think now it would just be laughable.

The Eisley song is the only one I've even heard, it's actually pretty good.

I think it's as endearing as when you were 17, but now that you have more great/not so great memories it kind of becomes background music.

My girlfriend recently told me that a song reminded her of me, but it's a song I've loved for years, so it didn't have as much weight as if I had heard/fell in love with it for the first time because of her.

Camtron (Cameron), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

I mean jeebus. I wrote POETRY based on Cocteau Twins lyrics at 17. All I can say is thank fuck the internet didn't exist.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 02:22 (twenty years ago)

When I was sixteen I felt Moby was singing right to me. (On Everything Is Wrong, that is.)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 06:04 (twenty years ago)

Hold on, it wasn't Moby himself, he had other vocalists singing, "everytime you touch me I feel like I need some mo-oh-ore". Never mind.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 06:06 (twenty years ago)

Moby would only want to touch you surreptitiously with his knob, though. (tho "Everytime You Touch Me" would be a better inclusion than any of teh indie on that mix)
