I'm enjoying this. Not had much of a chance to play what with work etc but I can see myself getting right into it.

Anyone else?

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 29 December 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

Not really seen much of it, if it's like GTA though as you say then it won't be long before it's in my possession.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

I have no idea what this thread's about.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

xbox game. :-)

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

Or Playstation!

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

ah ok. sorry about that. :-) just bought my husband an xbox 360 and was wondering if I should have added that as a gift.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

It's kinda hard to get into at first, especially the shootin'. But once you're used to it - Yee ha pardner!!

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

it is fun, tho i have had memory card troubs of late and could not save, and found the level with the train and the shooting and the jumping over the beams etc TRES ANNOYING

i am not a nugget (stevie), Thursday, 29 December 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Shit, haven't got that far yet. I'm only at the bridge with the Injuns.

FUCK working full time.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 29 December 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Scalping is utterly pointless, as far as I've been able to see. Which makes it the most sadistic fun you can have.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

you can scalp people in this game ? christ on a stick!

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes. As long as they're still twitching you can scalp away. They scream quite gratifyingly, too.

That's probably slightly too much of an insight into my character, I should think..

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't yet have a scalping knife. I do like using folk as human shields though.

And I felt kinda bad the first time I spurred my hoss to death, but I've learned not to become attached.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I'm getting this!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

i see some reviewers are saying it's a bit short.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Ach not for me. I'm shit at completing games, for one I rarely get the chance to play for any length of time, plus I'm rubbish and spend hours dicking about.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, it ain't as big as it makes itself out to be.
It's probably got as much playing time as Manhunt.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

I haven't played Gun, but I did get a chance to play Red Dead Revolver for PS2, which was pretty rad. The soundtrack was full of majestic spaghetti western scoring, which matched the plot of the story well (i.e. half-Cherokee boy is orphaned by murderous gold prospectors, returns when grown to find his parents' killers). Very fun multiplayer mode with lots of unlockable characters with specialty weapons.

It's probably got as much playing time as Manhunt

that's not too bad then, I never finished Manhunt anyway.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 December 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

(Also, Red Dead Revolver was developed by Rockstar, who did GTA, while Gun is by Neversoft.)

elmo, patron saint of nausea (allocryptic), Thursday, 29 December 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

and plus i recently finished half life 2 which was quite short and mostly fairly easy but it was the amount of fun I had during the whole experience which makes me choose it as one of the most amazing games ever.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 December 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Red Dead Revolver sounds good, though this is the first I've heard of it. I must give it a go sometime.

Any tips on playing cards in the saloon anyone? I can't seem to grasp what's going on although I was winning until I quit. Then my money seemed to vanish...

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Thursday, 29 December 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

You are playing Texas Hold'Em, so if you know how that's played it helps.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Thursday, 29 December 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

uh-oh "texas hold 'em". Brace yrselves for the spam onslaught.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 29 December 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

shit, it was Red Dead Revolver I played (tho we have Gun (my bro reviews games sometimes) too, i should play that perhaps, if ever i get a moment)

Seems okay, but not to watch.

Gukbe (lokar), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:23 (twenty years ago)

this game is pretty rad! stellar voice actors throughout.

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:31 (twenty years ago)

I feel such a failure. I'm on the easy setting and I can't get past the tutorial horse race.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:31 (twenty years ago)

Thomas Jane .... Colton White (voice)
Kris Kristofferson .... Ned White (voice)
Lance Henriksen .... Thomas MacGruder (voice)
Brad Dourif .... Reverend Josiah Reed (voice)
Ron Perlman .... Mayor Hoodoo Brown (voice)
Tom Skerritt .... Clay Allison (voice)

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:32 (twenty years ago)

I got bored fairly quick. It was too repetitive - point shoot point shoot ride around canyons point shoot shoot shoot shoot.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Sunday, 1 January 2006 01:34 (twenty years ago)

Red Dead Revolver = must have for all good people who like to shoot stuff.

Does this mean I need GUN?

John Justen (johnjusten), Sunday, 1 January 2006 02:38 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Yes.

Does anybody have any tips on how to get past MacGruder?

I'm stuck, the guy seems to be fucking bulletproof.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 27 January 2006 10:49 (twenty years ago)

so it's good ? the reviews seemed so-so. (i've just got back to vice city which i'd left aside for a long while cos i sucked so much i couldn't pass any mission... now i'm a bit better. but still suck a lot - yesterday i spent 3 hours trying to pass "copland"...and failed miserably....).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Friday, 27 January 2006 11:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm enjoying it but I was disappointed to learn that the part I'm stuck at is the last mission. I'm only 60% completed so I thought I had plenty of game left. The last 40% is obviously all side missions.

On the plus side, once I get past him it'll be the first game I've played right through since, Alex Kid or Psycho Fox!!!

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Friday, 27 January 2006 11:14 (twenty years ago)

so is it more or less difficult than vice city ? (i don't think i could handle/bother with a game more difficult... when you work full time, spending your evenings/week ends on a game and not be able to progress is pretty frustrating/annoying !).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Friday, 27 January 2006 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Less difficult. Less in depth too, you don't go shopping for new clothes etc and the horses are all 1.4 litre 1 horsepower economy versions.

Rump@home, Friday, 27 January 2006 13:50 (twenty years ago)

do they play music ? (and something else than western&country, not that i don't like these genres but riding through the desert while listening to some good sound would be nice).

AleXTC (AleXTC), Friday, 27 January 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

No, only incidental music. There's no soundtrack.

In fact, I've realised since starting this thread that it's not a lot like GTA at all.

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Monday, 30 January 2006 15:05 (twenty years ago)

no phil collins, no hawaian shirt, no sports cars, no drugs... why bother, then, huh !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Monday, 30 January 2006 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah but there be hosses - and there's gold in them thar hills!

Rumpie (lil drummer girl parumpumpumpu), Monday, 30 January 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

well, i guess one can have fun as long as there are guns, honeys, drinks and big bucks.
i'll see if i find it used... once i've finished vice city (in 2 years).
