sorry, i couldn't find an "ask the british" thread.
it it hard or easy for a uk-er to use marijuana?
does a specific user such as imago use marijuana?
― John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Saturday, 20 March 2021 18:05 (five years ago)

I mainly vape blueberry and cherry flavoured nicotine and have the odd real ciggie for the old fashioned toxic hit to the brain and lungs, but don't fuck with reefer - the taste is disgusting and the pungent stench of it has a range of at least 1/4 a mile these days. The only thing I miss about it is how much it enhances music appreciation and perhaps nature sometimes, but generally I can't operate outside in a functional manner nor really deal with other humans at all if I'm blunted these days.
― calzino, Saturday, 20 March 2021 18:48 (five years ago)
Pretty easy. I haven't smoked weed for years but it wouldn't be an issue to sort out a connection. Is a map asking this in anticipation of being in the UK?
― emil.y, Saturday, 20 March 2021 18:56 (five years ago)
in my late teens / early 20s around the turn of the millennium, really easy to find shitty soapbar hash, which everyone mixed with rolling tobacco.now, in my early 40s, living in a city where everyone I know I basically know from work (where I was the deputy safeguarding lead) I have no idea at all.

average quality has improved a hell of a lot in the last decade or two but the situation would still be disappointing if you're coming from somewhere with fancy "legal" dispensaries and more widespread acceptance from police and public

edibles / vaping and a manageable "clean" high has become such a part of daily life for me. the medicinal aspect is for real though of course you can overdo it. i guess i was also asking if there's anything on the horizon there as far as legalization goes.

Yes there will not be legal weed in the UK in the foreseeable future. It's everywhere and usually crap one (well, compared to BC bud)
― himpathy with the devil (jim in vancouver), Saturday, 20 March 2021 21:05 (five years ago)
Don't know what I was doing with that post. Weed is still really prevalent despite its illegality. I wouldn't smoke it in public in the UK, which I was comfortable doing here before legalization

there must be people in the UK if who are distilling their own THC vape juice for either personal use or making a killing selling it. What does THC vaping weed smell like? Is it as pungent as the burning stuff?
― calzino, Saturday, 20 March 2021 22:44 (five years ago)
no
― John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Saturday, 20 March 2021 22:48 (five years ago)
I've never tried vaping weed myself but to reply to your post upthread, calz, I've heard flavourless tobacco e-liquid is generally safer.
― pomenitul, Saturday, 20 March 2021 22:49 (five years ago)
weed is everywhere in the west of Scotland. I don't like what it does to me, even trying to consume it in different ways (someone once brought to a party a weed tiramasu, which still haunts me to this day) so I don't really see it around me often, but it's constantly there. I remember sitting with two pals in my final year of school and realising in a group of 150-ish we were the only three who weren't having a smoke down at the park every weekend. My brother started smoking it when he was 13 but didn't drink for a few more years, it was just so easy to get and it felt more socially acceptable to be into it than to not be into it.
when I was 17 I would never have imagined people the same age taking class A drugs like coke or ecstacy. We had it drilled into us they were lethal, and also the price was very prohibitive. But now it seems just as common as weed with young people - the "banter" on Instagram about a "cheeky line" I see is constant and casual. One of the students who worked with us at the weekend last year told me her 6th year prom got cancelled because someone dropped a bag of powder in front of a teacher in school, which to me is just so odd.

Been thinking about this. I feel like I haven't smelt that immediately-recognisable smell as much walking around streets recently, but then I don't leave the house very much and we're in the middle of a pandemic. Personally, I'm more risk-averse these days but I can still think of plenty of places around my area where I'd feel fine sparking one up if I wanted to. Not in crowded areas, but parks and woods and shit.
I've still got plenty of friends who are stoners, and edibles seem popular multi-generationally. Don't know how old boxedjoy is but my teen cohort were def into all sorts of drugs and I've seen research that suggests that actually younger people take fewer drugs now.

i've been putting ketchup (catsup) on everything lately.

it's actually great, fuck the haters
True enough. It is a versatile sauce. The commercial varieties could use bit less sugar and a tad more vinegar, but their convenience offsets their shortcomings. Most of its bad rep comes from its overuse and being put on foods where it detracts instead of enhances.

for the ultimate ketchup experience you need to pair it with its natural companion, French toast.

this is the ultimate cheap and nasty British sauce brand. You see them on the counter in most bad (but good) takeaways in my area. But for a quid a bottle they are surprisingly decent sauces and I've got much love for the brand and will happily put a few of their varieties on just about anything.

it's kebab shop chilli sauce isn't it?tbh I put pataks aubergine pickle on everything, sometimes mix with a little mayonnaise, some encona extra hot if I want it spicier.
― A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 19:24 (four years ago)
would he interested in the yoghurt & mint, that's something you only seem to get in kebab shops
― A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 19:26 (four years ago)
yep, that would be an accurate description of the brand. Yoghurt & Mint is handy for me when I've got no Greek yoghurt and I add it to some chopped cucumbers/red onions.
― calzino, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 19:31 (four years ago)
Yoghurt and mint, and garlic and herb are pretty essential in my house.
