Do they get everything they want? Are they happier? Do they get bigger tips?
Discuss the power of being beautiful

survival of the fittest

Of course they don't get everything they want, but they do get more: Research has shown that they get less strict punishment (?) in court for example. On the other hand people expect more of them: for example people tend to assume they are cleverer.

There's a well-known article from The Economist about discrimination based on height: www.shortsupport.org/News/0106.html

Depressing reading. It shows that taller people have significant advantages in the areas of:

Politics
Business
Professional status
Jobs
Money
Sex

You can probably double that advantage for good looking people.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Saturday, 31 December 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

for example people tend to assume they are cleverer.

Do they really? Wow. I didn't think I assumed anything about good looking people, except that I don't want them standing next to me in photos.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Saturday, 31 December 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

I'm quite tall and that's just not true bob.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 31 December 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

I like to squint at good looking people, it diminishes their power!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 31 December 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Good looking people are in danger of never getting what they want, cos most people look at them and think: "They're good-looking, they probably already get what they want, therefore they are getting nothing they want from me." A presumption of spoiledness, maybe.

Having said that, there is a bus driver who thinks I'm good looking. (I think he would think a boiled egg was good looking, but there we go.) He told me not to worry about anything, cos good looking people get everything they want in life. I told him thanks but this was untrue. I was saying this as he took me beyond the bus route to drop me right outside where I was heading.

(x-post Jel)

Louis Theroux has stolen your luck (and looks).

Bob Six (bobbysix), Saturday, 31 December 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

I am tall and good-looking and I have found life a picnic. Success had been very easy for me, opportunities presenting themselves at every turn. People stop in the street to tip me generously. Bus drivers offer a complete chauffer service and pick up my dry cleaning for me.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 31 December 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Yeah but you're so old you've started shrinking. It's gonna end.

Zoe Espera (Espera), Saturday, 31 December 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

Oi.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 31 December 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

you don't want to be labelled

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 31 December 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

I am quite successful, 6' tall, but my nose has been broken three times and I have crazy-man eyeballs.

TOMBOT, Saturday, 31 December 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

More interesting would be statistics on people who look like me. Like Jon Williams and the pinefox, apparently.

I have always been the type of man to be easily seduced and manipulated by good looking women. This troubles me. It is my kryponite?

Mike Hanle y 3000 (hanle y 3000), Sunday, 1 January 2006 10:19 (twenty years ago)

i'm an unhappy person who doesn't get what he wants and i'm considered good looking.

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Sunday, 1 January 2006 10:48 (twenty years ago)

In the middle of a conversation recently, I said: "... and, I'm not good-looking, so..." - and was interrupted with "you don't think you're good-looking?" in incredulous tones.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Sunday, 1 January 2006 12:12 (twenty years ago)

(I still don't think I'm good looking, though)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Sunday, 1 January 2006 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Mike Hanle y (mike), Monday, 2 January 2006 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Aimless (Aimless), Monday, 2 January 2006 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Aimless (Aimless), Monday, 2 January 2006 18:04 (twenty years ago)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 2 January 2006 19:10 (twenty years ago)
