Dirty Dronerock Boys: Shag and Destroy

Since Tom seems to have brought in an illegitimate rule and stuck my name on it, I *WILL* start threads of this ilk.

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

And I'll be the only poster as well...

Sonic or Jason, who is cuter...?

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Jason's probably safer. It is too dangerous shagging hedgehogs.

Pete, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Sonic looks like he has trouble keeping his head on his shoulders. Maybe he's got an anti gravity head.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Sonic always had better hair, but Jason had that Little Boy Lost thing going on.

How about Robert from Loop? He was a hotty before he shaved all his hair off.

It's all about the hair, I think. All proper dirty dronerock boys should aspire to be Sterling Morrison in both feedback and bowlhead stakes. Except for Sterling's somewhat dodgy experiments with facial hair... Only John Cale could really get away with that sort of thing.

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Better Jason than Tiny or Keeyop, certainly.

Tom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Aaaahhhhh!!! Jason G-Force!!! The original Jason the Spaceman! He was miles cooler than Mark, as well. Mark was so uptight. Even if he did get points for having the same voice as Shaggy Scooby Doo. Plus, Jason had that cool car. Mark just had the stupid plane.

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Are they both on methodone? good luck "gettin' it up"...

duane, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

What is a dirty dronerock boy? Can they not have baths?

james e l, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I don't think they were on Methodone unless they were in those burgers that they used to eat at the table tennis place.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

You know, someone posted this silly thing about Sonic and Jason being on methadone and Rugby being a total hole and all that onto this random Spacemen3 list, and Sonic posted to the list TEARING THE GUY A NEW ASSHOLE. It was pretty fucking classic.

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

outta those 2 i'd choose..*thinks*...Chris Heazlewood. (if I was a gurl, or gay , or whatever)

duane, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Jason G force = casey casum (sp.?) no word of lie

cabbage, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

No, it was Mark G-Force who was voiced by Casey Kasem. I know of what I speak...

Oh, and James, the reason that they are invariably *dirty* dronerock boys is because it is quite difficult to stop and take a bath while you are playing all 22 days of a LaMonte Young Dreamweapon piece. I mean, really... they are *far* too busy contemplating the future of modern art and avante guarde music to *possibly* concern themselves with such paltry distractions such as the care of hair or body.

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Fuck me they all just fucking suck. Aloofness is so rubbish, skinny eyes-down (or up) make-a-lot-of-noise nonsense smells of poo.

A good fringe and eighteen guitar pedals? Or some actual content and something to say? Fuck. It's like they're trying to teach everyone to be embarrassed of enthusiasm.

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Pish posh, Chris, just because you are envious of my endless crush on the Channel 6 does not give you such free reign for cattiness and jealousy.

Though what about Dirty Dronerock Boys who manage to drone away with 18 effects pedals, and still manage to stagger around, act animated and not at all embarrassed of enthusiasm like, say, Peter Holmstrom, oh he with the 18 pedals? I've seen him do little *dances* while playing guitar. Even though he's not from Rugby, he can certainly float my dirty dronerock boat.

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Preening and lech-rock choreography. Strike a pose...

"oooh heroin is so passe..." (repeat to fade)

Well done, that boy.

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Christopher, don't make me beat you about the head with The Collected Works Of The Dandy Warhols That Are Not That One Hit Wonder About Smack But Are Really Gorgeous Wibbling Dronerock the next time that I see you.

Speaking of which, I heard a rumour once that there were plans involving the idea that Peter Holmstrom and Pete Kember (aka Sonic Boom) were making plans to do a wibbling dronerock version of Peter And The Wolf. How far into it do you think I would be able to listen before exploding?

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Impossible. Peter And The Wolf actually has, like, a melody.

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Three talentless schmucks, standing on a wall. Three talentless schmucks, standing on a wall. And if one dreadful jangly indie business empire, should accidentally fall, there'll be... One floppy 80s tunesmtih and one vain 2-chord guitar whanger standing on the wall.

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

*2* chords? Jeez, what Sonic Boom songs have *you* been listening to?

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Oops I wasn't reading properly (that's my first ILE typo as well I think) - still obsessing negatively about Peter. Damnit that squishes me, I was enjoying myself.

Can't think of anything nasty to say about SB.

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Ah, well, it is 2pm and that means that I now have to go and take a shower and get dressed and ready for the gig tonight. Any requests?

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

improvised drone rock version of peter and the wolf

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Here we go.

I think sonic is waaay cooler than jason, but robert from loop did have thee ultimate fringe at one point. Sad to relate, this fringe was a deciding factor in me buying (IIRC) "spinning" 12" back in the day. Loop's "fade out" album is my fave latterday spacerock/dronerock album. Sonic Boom occasionally posts to a yahoogroup I'm a member of (sergemodular). He is awesome. HE POSTS EVERYTHING IN CAPITALS, TAKES THE PISS MERCILESSLY, AND USES MALENKY CLOCKWORK ORANGE LANGUAGE ALL THE TIME.

If yer trolling for poss. shaggable dronerockers, (so tempting to put "trolling for dronecock") I suppose I'm going to have to conform to type, and post URLs to some pics of hideous old 1970's farts. I mean, fair's fair, y'know? If U can find more than 1 fanciable male amongst this lot, my congrats :)

Laydiez & gennlemen, I give U:

can

hawkwind

(note "where am I/who am I?? look on faces of simon king and lemmy)

amon duul 2

I dunno abt the blokes, but renate knaup is ROWR. This site has the words to "archangel thunderbird"!!! I feel a cover version coming on :)

ash ra tempel

neu!

I suspect andreas schell of la dusseldorf (2nd pic down) is the only presentable male out of the whole lot of these. I wish I looked like andreas schell. Rowr. Sad to say, I couldn't find a good pic of the pink fairies ;) xoxo

html l00zer....., Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

yeah i c'n hang w/ sonic b. , kinda sorta, but he did say (CONFLICT innerview, circa 87)(loooooong memory i got for such shit even if i can't remember 4 min's ago) "Hawkwind is just bad hippie music" so kick his ass if you c'n find it.

duane, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Norman, are you sure that is the *real* Sonic Boom? I've seen at least one imposter floating around the net. The actual real Pete Kember that was in S3 and so on seems (at least to me) to be a man of fairly few words- unless provoked- and seems to have perfectly capable control over capitals and grammar and everything. Who knows... maybe he's just more restrained when dealing in a professional capacity? What is the email... what do you know, he is on your group! His mails look perfectly normal to me...

masonic boom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

hawkwind is just bad hippie music. eh, yeah, that's a good 'un isn't it. Especially if U listen to "Revolution" (IE sounds just like hawkwind) I read interview w/robert from loop in "strange things are happening" mag some years ago - "OMG! We don't sound like hawkwind! We sound like SRC!!!" Oh no you don't robert. You sound like hawkwind. And on the inside kover ov "fade out", you look like the edgar broughton band hehehe (compare inside gatefold pics on "fade out" & "wasa wasa")

Norman fay, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Norman - yeah, that guy from Loop seems like only about 1000X bigger poseur than Sonic B. tho...sonic in that same CONFLICT interview was scathing about him (he "ripped off his whole thing from us" &c., you can imagine). The funniest thing was I remember him sneering about how the Loop guy's real name was "Josh" or something...like that was the most damning example of the guy's inauthenticity he could come up with...he came across as yr achy-typal humourless paranoid junkie.
no reason not to love the guy i suppose.

duane, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

My god, you're all so old.

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

oops sorry to take over this playful fun-type sexxxy thread w/ such grimy old -geezer i was readin fanzines in '87 shit. (i'm being sincere! 4 real!)

duane, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

I like being old.

xoxo

Norman Fay, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Actually Kate, if you're still here, I've got a boast for the dronerockers: my very first drummer in my secondary school band is Tom Edwards, he's now the percussionist in Spiritualized. He's tall and skinny and got a good fringe and I can introduce you...

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

It's fun being old. Let's gang up on Chris while we're over there and make fun of him for being young. The punk.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Norman, sure yr right abt 'Revolution' sounding like Hawkwind, but it sounds even more 'Back to Comm' by the MC5. Virtually identical in fact. ('real artists steal' etc.)

Andrew L, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Doesn't Bassman rate?

Steven James, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Yeah yeah? c'mon then, I'll tek yer all on.

chris, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

You'd surely win. All you'd have to do is kick away our walking sticks ;-)

This thread seems a wee bit sexist. Dronerock boys? What about Kate Spiritualized, definitely scores high on the fox factor.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

chris heazlewood is really chris o'donnel right? they look identical. jason actually looks fit, what is his regimen?

duane, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

i don't even know who chris o'donnell is but i emailed heazer & told him you said that. I hope it offends him enough that he'll come on this forum & kick some ass.

duane, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Damn... the things you miss by going out and having a life...

Dronerock girls- Kate Radley? AAARRGGGHHHH!!! Kill! Kill! Destroy! Bitch!!! Totally useless fashion accessory for dronerock boys posing as a keyboard player! She breaks up dronerock bands... for FUN! SHE IS CLEARLY EVIL AND SHE MUST BE STOPPED!!!

I mean, if we're going to talk about Laticia (sp?) Stereolab, then I will let you.

BUT THIS IS MY THREAD, AND I WILL NOT HAVE THAT HARLOT RADLEY ON IT!!!!!

one month passes...
This is my thread and it makes me happy, so I'm going to talk about dirty dronerock boys all the doo dah, all the doo dah day.

kate, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Sigh, so I'm at my mum's house, with access to all the coloured 10" vinyl obscure Sonic Boom solo records I could ever wish for in the universe, and I've got NO RECORD PLAYER here. Ah well, I can just look at the pretty pictures on the sleeves and quietly wub-wub-wub to myself and imagine remembering what they must sound like. Purple pyramid vinyl, mmmmmmmm.

kate, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Yessss, back up on the new answers page.

(Mind you, I can't even remember the illegitimate rule that Tom made up that brought about the formation of this thread...)

kate, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Oh yes I do... Tom decided that if a certain topic was mentioned on at least 4 other threads, then it deserved a thread of its own. Unless, of course, it was me talking about dirty dronerock boys. So I took offense at that and started the thread anyway. Humph.

kate, Sunday, 16 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

But are they really dirty or just look like they are?

I'm just trying to figure out what the hell kind of a guitar that is. It looks like some strange Tiesco baseball bat guitar or something because the headstock seems abnormally large.

Ned, I hope this new prog-synth thing fades soon or my band are never going to forgive me.
