Wow... I'm really pretty freaked out about this. I mean, I have never been under the illusion that Klaus was not a monster, but there's monsters and then there's monsters. He has been a (monstrously) totemic figure in my life so... argh...

So how are we all feeling about it. My gf wants me to bin all my herzog/kinski dvds. I don't see why. I haven't had a chance to watch any of them since the news, but I can't imagine I will feel differently about Kinski on screen.

One of my favorite movies is a Polanski, but I still think he is a horrible human being who should probably be in jail. I think in most cases you can separate the art from the artist.

the separation thing is curious tho. there are plenty of ppl who will enjoy art made by people who have abused children or w/e yet still find lots of transgressive art ~unacceptable~. it's like you can commit all manner of sexual violence if you sing sweetly enough, but if yr too gully in yr misogyny you become anathema regardless of how much of a cutie you are irl. could ponder the visceral character of music mb but i think it's mostly a class thing
