I'm presuming that these things have zero value now (?), so what's the best way to get rid of it? I'd rather not dump the thing, so are there any (UK) charities that make good use of old monitors?

This does sound satisfying, but CRT monitors are full of nasty toxins like pounds of lead, so if you can't find a scheme that will reuse them, your council should at least provide safe disposal/recycling facilities.
