T/S: Roast dinner vs curry

Or . . . if you had to live in a universe without roast dinner, or a universe without curry, which would you pick?

This one's quite hard.

all roasted food? all curry?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Good God! I would die before I'd allow either to happen. Curry is Saturday night and roast is Sunday afternoon. I guess if I HAD to pick, I'd nix the roast and accept curries for life. As for why, I don't know how to articulate. More complex? More special?

Not live exclusivly on, just which would you rather live without?

I think on careful consideration, I have to take roast dinners over curry. Just the range helps - beef, lamb, chicken, pork, duck, etc . . .

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

I guess I'd rather be able to eat anything that could be roasted successfully rather than anything that can be curried.

For spicing things up I'd still have chilli powder, peppers etc. innit.

Curry curry curry. Sorry, no debate. I mean, it's such a wide range of food! You can curry anything!

Emsk and friends had curry for dinner (also with a bit of roast on the side) on Christmas Day, and it was so marvellous and perfect I could never live without it.

Roast, however... meh. It's a hard thing to do well as a vegetarian, so I can live without it.

I might miss stuffing... but honestly, I'd roll it into balls and fry it, just like mum used to do. ;-)

Ronan posted on this thread? Where?

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

Um, Mark? No Ronan here.

Roasts for me. Gravy, roast potatos, devils on horseback. Yum.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

oh god I forgot about stuffing

You CAN curry anything, and don't get me wrong, a good curry is a joy to behold, but lets face it, you've got how many major of curry? 10? 20? If that? It's different if you're veggie, but otherwise you can go a whole year eating only roast dinners without having the same one twice.

And to be honest, if we reduced it to curry vs roast potatoes it'd be difficult to split it.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but both meals I would only eat a max of once a week. I also have no plans to get tired of either, ever.

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Can you really curry that much more than you can roast?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

Does Ronan need to be here for him to be OTM? Huh?

Also, um, Roxy OTM

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Blush?!

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Roasting is just about the dullest way I can think of preparing food. I mean, it's not even like it does anything to the food except makes it crispy. It's ONE WAY of doing things. Curry is a whole world of possibilities...

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't had roast in... I can't even remember.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

Duller ways of preparing food: toasting/grilling, not cooking it at all

But then it's not a fair comparison, as roasting is akin to frying i.e. an actual method of cooking the food, whereas currying is a means of enhancing the taste of said food, so of course there are more possibilities there.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

well if i had to pick one right now I would go with the roast dinner, because i have curry usually every other night. it would make a nice change. a well done roast pounds just about anything, especially a lamb one with mint sauce, carrots and turnips, ooh and delicious gravy.

i think i've had my life's fill of curry.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 3 January 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

ooh, i had some really bad curry the other week. life's too short for bad curries.

I still don't understand the premise of the thread.
