i was thinking thirstday for those on a NEED to SEE basis (i.e. everybody who has any idea what i am talking about) .. roll on twelve days of christmas!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

or does this create some type of FAP overlap? the christmas holidays have left my faculties to dodder

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

I don't have a clue what you are on about, but I would like to see you and will be well up for this, I think. Assuming you mean Thursday, and 'thirstday' isn't a new name for Wednesday morning or something.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

THURSDAY

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

and i do think you know.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

tomorrow night? alright

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

I should be there. I haven't seen the inside of the Swimmer in literally days.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

gah, you know things are herky jerky when you refer to tomorrow as the day of the week it is. i myself have not been to that area they call upper holloway in just over ONE YEAR and my guts are shriekin for it.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

Thursdays are always tricky and I'd promised myself to save money by cutting out all January midweek drinking BUT its Tracey Hand AND its the Swimmer AND it will give me an incentive to work late and actually meet my deadline. So probably, yes.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

the justifications write themselves.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

Making it that far North won't be possible for me on Thursday, sorry, other commitments appear to be intruding.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

I like Tracer Hand.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 4 January 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

He is an excellent specimen.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

wicked pisser

terry lennox. (gareth), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone ever do the monday night quiz at the Swimmer?

chap who would dare to work for the man (chap), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

Once. We harangued the quiz'master' because he considered Lochs to not be the same as lakes (or that they were - can't remember what the correct answer is here).

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

They are in the same caber-park.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

tracer are you back in london for good now? i had a great time there, i want to go back to drink more pints soon.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

The question was 'what is the largest lake in scotland' the answer to which is Lake of Menteith as it is the only lake in scotland, the others being lochs. But of course I over-estimated the intelligence of the quiz master, and as stupid stand-in quiz master did not write the questions, he would not accept wrongness and insisted it was loch lomond.

Not that I'm still bitter or anything.

I shall be there, and so will my husband

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

The current quizmaster's pretty cool. He's an extremely frindly and enthusiastic Canadian with a well-polished gameshow host persona who does the best Jimmy Stewart impression of all time.

chap who would dare to work for the man (chap), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

Some day, we shall have our actual, fabled SARF LONDON FAP.

I cannot make it because it's a school night, and The Swimmer is in THE MIDDLE OF BLOODY NOWHERE as far as I'm concerned.

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

Holloway Road = the cradle of civilisation.

chap who would dare to work for the man (chap), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Kate it's in the middle of ILXor-land! Tracer has now replaced Anna as my closest neighbour, beating out Ken, Gareth and (stretching it a bit) Carsmile/Rob/Marianna/Steve/Alix.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:42 (nineteen years ago)

(Anna is supposed to be going to a friend's gig that night but feels less guilty due to lunch appointment with Mr Hand earlier in the day.)

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Some day, we shall have our actual, fabled WEST LONDON FAP.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

There was a South London FAP at least once before but I can't recall there ever being a Western one.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

you can talk, splitter.

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

Steve and Alix is stretching it A LOT considering they live in Clapton.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

i think you will find that DALSTON is closer to holloway than clapton!

have we ever had an east london fap? everyone knows dalston is the epicentre of london. and we've got the best local, too.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

I was going to give blood tomorrow!

Oh well either
a) I am on softies
b) I don't give blood
c) I see how true the drinking after giving blood making you doolally is.

Either/any way I will be there.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

We had an East London FAP before Charlie No. 4's party about 18 months ago. In a pub that, was coincidentally, just like the Swimmer on the inside.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

West London FAP, it'll never happen Koogs, I realise this :(

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

No insult to the Dalston massive, I'm just counting places that I've gone and thought "I could walk back from here!"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

i'm back in brooklyn next week, stence!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

You could easily walk home form West London, it's only 10 miles or so, nothing to a fit young person.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

I walked home from West London once. And I walked *to* West London once, too.

It is a very long way. And something to be avoided at all costs.

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

:(

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

you are, tracer? i thought you were going over there for like a while or something.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

And something to be avoided at all costs

not just the walk but the (mythical) place itself!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

London Ends At Marble Arch, etc. etc. and so forth...!

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

pete, drinking after giving blood doesn't make you doolally. or anyway, it doesn't make me doolally. um perhaps stupidly i've never takken any of their advice about what not to do after giving blood except i won't do it less than 1hr before riding my bike in london, and nothing bad or even noticeable ever happened.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

London Ends At Marble Arch, etc. etc. and so forth...!

true that, I'd never go east of there if possible.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

let's east london fap. you are talking the prince george, right lex?

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

oh, and archway isn't so far. i went there for a meeting just before christmas and it not only took me next to no time to get there but it was REALLY NICE!

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

i am indeed. down the road from my flat!

(we also live next door to a pub, the spurstowe arms, but it's not great)

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, but in fairness slipping into a mild coma isn't really out of the ordinary for you, Emsk!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

ouch! but anyway i didn't fall into any comas after giving blood, and i went swimming and lifted heavy stuff with that arm and gor drunked n
and done a play and all sorts.

ooh we were in the prince george on christmas eve. well, we were outside it. we couldn't fit in it, there were too many people (but my, they were all very good for staring at through the windows like we were the bisto kids). nice beer mind.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

I still want to know what the lady in the lamp was holding if she wasn't holding lamps.

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

didn't we decide she was protecting her modesty?

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

Why is there such absurd regionalism among London dwellers? I suppose it is An Bit Of Fun.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Because I really think that it's a bit excessive to spend HALF AN HOUR travelling to a pub after work in the opposite direction to which you live, and then AN HOUR (or more) travelling home again afterwards.

Anyway, I can't remember if it was her modesty or if she was holding something. I blame the sherry.

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

What's the furthest anyone here has travelled within (Greater) London to meet friends in the pub on a weeknight between Monday and Thursday? I wonder if anyone can top West Ealing->Clapham Common->Ruislip Gardens in one night.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

You'd have to be mad. And on that note, I'm off to brave the wilds of Archway. But it's for rehearsal, natch, not the pub.

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

(Though actually, come to think of it, I think I did Epsom -> Hackney -> Streatham once or twice)

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

> Because I really think that it's a bit excessive to spend HALF AN HOUR travelling to a pub after work in the opposite direction to which you live, and then AN HOUR (or more) travelling home again afterwards.

i think i might just do this tonight, show willing etc. if i could only remember which tube station serves the swimmer...

(and ticket prices increase, jesus. fleece the tourists / occasional travellers why don't you ken)

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

I did Battersea last night, which seemed like miles on ver bus, but is probably not that bad.

Bah, I was kind of hoping the blood thing would give me an excuse not to drink. Never mind. I be there bout seben.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

I never understand why people move to a big city and then moan about having to travel long distances. It's good BECAUSE its big, people!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

tho i do envy the people who live so close to ILX pubs sometimes as it must be nice to have that '5 minute walk home as if they are living in a village' thing going on. i will happily settle for a 15 minute bus ride though.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

Boston Manor - Hammersmith then a bus to Aldwych, then a 20 minute walk. I guess that's about an hour and 20 mins or so. That was to the Tombot and Ally FAP. Obv. I could get there quicker if I wasn't slightly bonkers. I think I walked back to Oxford Street and got a bus to Shepherd's Bush, then a bus to West Ealing on the way back, which took another hour or so.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

Acton Central -> Highbury & Islington -> 43 bus to The Swimmer - you'd be there in an hour!

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

I often just get the tube from Ealing Bdy to Victoria and stomp it from there to central London these days. Or the BR train to Paddington and bus it from there.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

It'd take me 30 mins or so to get to Acton Central Steve! If only it was right by my doorstep like it used to be. Hanwell is semi-rural.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

Well an hour and 20 is not that bad really, thinking back to getting the night bus back to Stratford last year (ok it was rubbish, but not enough to deter from going 'up West')

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 5 January 2006 11:03 (nineteen years ago)

because of the one way system on seven sisters road, i'm probably going to have to walk to this

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 5 January 2006 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

though i think the swimmer is marginally closer than the bus stop, come to think of it

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 5 January 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

I'm planning to be there by 6, buses willing, very possibly earlier

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 5 January 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not doing Holloway Rd twice in two nights, especially with the transport nightmare I had getting home last night. I'll raise a glass of sherry at home in honour of the Hand.

The Lidl Shop Of Horrors (kate), Thursday, 5 January 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be there c.6pm too, probably.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 5 January 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

aw i'll miss you lidl! and the stim as well. but one can't demand perfection from last-minute plans. i'll get there around 6-ish or so as well.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 5 January 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

ha, i used to come FROM OXFORD for midweek drinks, OXFORD!!!

ok, only once or twice and having a bus that it's expected that you fall asleep on makes a lot of difference...

both myself and my good lady wife with grace this meeting with our presence ;) although we have to go to an gig later.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 5 January 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

I may or may not attend this, it depends on whether or not my fellow gig-goer is buying ski boots or not.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 5 January 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

dude it's not THAT far north.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 5 January 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

It is to me. Highbury is practically Glasgow to me!

Ah! The Feinbos! (kate), Thursday, 5 January 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

ah, but you live just north of morocco.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 5 January 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sorry, but I really think that it's unacceptible to spend 2 hours getting home from the pub on a weeknight. And I don't live just North of Morocco, I live just short of Marseille, thank you kindly. Care for a banana? Grew it myself.

Ah! The Feinbos! (kate), Thursday, 5 January 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

Kate, where is yr nu-abode?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

St. Reatham's Parish! Way down south where Bananas grow!

Ah! The Feinbos! (kate), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

I was already thinking of going to Swimmer on my own tonight, like a complete saddo, as I haven't touched a drop since coming back to Hell (London).

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

it'll be funny if Ken C doesn't turn up (assuming he's around) having decided it's too far.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 5 January 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

irony - i'm heading to east london tonight!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

although, if you guys are gonna be EARLY DOORS then i'm GAME

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

as opposed to THE GAME, which would involve me spitting out beer into the air in time to motorhead

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

Or STILL GAME, which would involve you wearing a cardigan and smoking a pipe.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

Ken, if you do your entrance in the style of the mighty HHH (my favourite WWE entrance, still), I will buy you a drink.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

haha alright deal!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Surely your swiftest way from the Swimmer to Streatham would be bus to Kings Cross Thameslink (ten minutes) then train to Streatham (30 minutes). Or am I wrong, and wildly estimating South London and stuff?

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

hand, check your email.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 5 January 2006 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

checkt!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

Swimmer to Kings X in ten minutes? In your DREAMS!

Ah! The Feinbos! (kate), Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

Pretty sure I've done it in 10 before...

It only takes me an hour to get back from the Swimmer on a bad day but I think Streatham is somewhat less accessible IIRC.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

there are only 3 seperate bus routes that go from holloway to kings x afterall.

17, 259, 91

although i'd say more like 15 minutes to make time for walking to the stop on cally road and any wait for the bus.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

the bus route during the day is silly because it gets stuck when approaching kings x after the canal bridge but at night it flies.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 5 January 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

Argh. What buses go there?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 5 January 2006 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

My character was slandered on at least one occasion, The Lex has plummeted in my estimations and various conversations took on whole new levels of wrongness. Lovely FAP, I thought.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 6 January 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

Photos of Tracer as Papa Noel are urgent and key.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 6 January 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

matt rest assured i would never cockblock you!

(unless i was in a mood to amuse myself)

(did i mention that one of my favourite cockblocking tactics is to flummox/frustrate the boy so much that he makes a fool of himself without any need for me to slander him?)

if you come to tomas andersson on the 21st i will definitely not cockblock you

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 6 January 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

Trentemoller is/are also playing on the 21st at The Key, no?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Friday, 6 January 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

I got flustered around both the Lex and Dadaismus! Can one be cock-blocked and not know it?

Hmm, should I post the picture? What a dilemma.
