Tell me about the US TV show, Invasion!

OK, you were right about Lost, and the only references I can find to the TV show are on that thread where Beth and Scott both say they're watching it.

It's being very heavily plugged over here just now and starts next week. TV Tome says encouraging things - but should I watch it?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 6 January 2006 13:03 (twenty years ago)

No, I shouldn't. Based on the first episode, it's pish.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 8 January 2006 22:06 (twenty years ago)

This really is pish. And makes no sense.

Fuck me C4, you're better than this. (And this is the channel currently showing Celeb BB)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 8 January 2006 22:46 (twenty years ago)

i've never seen the show, but it looks TERRIBLE and the girl on it has been on the late night talk shows and is an idiot and looks like a man.

tres letraj (tehresa), Sunday, 8 January 2006 22:51 (twenty years ago)

wait the girl that looks manish is on "surface" not "invasion". but they both still look awful!

tres letraj (tehresa), Sunday, 8 January 2006 22:53 (twenty years ago)

Slow-moving and predictable.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Sunday, 8 January 2006 23:07 (twenty years ago)

Completely, but no doubt I'll be watching next Sunday's episode. There's that little bit of hope inside me that says the aliens are going to start killing with rayguns by episode 4.

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 8 January 2006 23:10 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
So, is anyone still watching this? I've been finding it a bit dull up until now, but tonight's was fantastic. I hear it only gets better from now on, too.

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 29 January 2006 21:19 (twenty years ago)

I was the only one in our Lost-watching cell who enjoyed Invasion. I'm not picky—I'll watch almost anything with aliens. I'm sorry I missed a good episode. I kept waiting for all the gill-breathing stuff to kick in. It is slow to unfold. But Mariel finding her own dead body in the glades was so cool. It was definitely her, but then when it was fished out it was some other blonde, like they killed somebody to substitute bodies.
Everyone made fun of me and talked loud over the show so I had to sit on the floor about eight inches from the tv. Finally they wore me down and we switched to Project Runway, which is instantly addictive, so fine.
But watch Invasion for me!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Sunday, 29 January 2006 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Invasion was too slow for me. I was watching the CBS alien show pretty faithfully, but they moved it around so much and now i don't even know if they are still showing it. THAT show had lots of good action. plus, roc, and data and the station master.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 29 January 2006 23:00 (twenty years ago)

or station agent or whatever that movie was. the little guy.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 29 January 2006 23:01 (twenty years ago)

It looks like ITV pulled the plug on Surface :(
It was rubbish but I was watching that!

Tonights Invasion was only so-so I thought.

Merryweather (scarlet), Sunday, 29 January 2006 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Invasion is truly fucking appalling. I had high hopes for it too, given it's producer has American Gothic on his CV.

Shame about ITV pulling the plug on Surface. Granted it was tosh but it was also absolutely barking mad; which is is a big bonus in my eyes.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 30 January 2006 12:23 (twenty years ago)

I've not heard of Surface. What about Threshold?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 30 January 2006 12:29 (twenty years ago)

I really, really wanted Invasion to be some cop--there hasn't been a good sci-fi series on TV for ages. But after watching the first two episodes of Invasion, I remain disappointed. It's just too corny and predictable.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 30 January 2006 12:32 (twenty years ago)

"What about Threshold?"

that's the one i was talking about with roc and data on it. i liked it. i never know when or if it's on anymore. i don't think too many people got to see it. very entertaining.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 30 January 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Invasion really, really picked up after about 6 eps. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but now I love it. They kind of left the original motionless storyline a bit, and now it's all alien training camps, secret closets, creepy alien gatherings and secret meetings with ex-agents.

Threshold was crap, Surface is pretty good.

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 30 January 2006 14:05 (twenty years ago)

i have missed this the last couple of weeks due to having more exciting, real-life things to do. but tonight i have nowhere to go, hurrah! it is on in 1hr. i am going out to get ICE CREAM!

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 12 February 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

I had Surface on TV in the backgrd with the sound off a few times - all that ever seemed to happen was they were endlessly on a rusty barge poking at some kind of subersible doohickey and looking panicky. WTF? Didnt look like much of a story.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 13 February 2006 02:17 (twenty years ago)

no, it is great! it's got alien merpeople aping human dna and NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THEY WANT YET, and the military is TEH EVIL and yesterday they tried to fob the intrepid lady reporter off with a big squid in a box which was (possibly unintentionally) hilarious. i mean, it's not like, whoa, what excellent tv, like six feet under or something, but it's a really great perfect-for-sunday-night not-too-demanding wtf argh aliens and subterfuge and whoo nature ain't it freaky sometimes, maybe this is WHY thing. all the family drama bits might get a bit tedious (eg i don't have any interest in mariel/muriel whatsoever beyond OMG SHE IS PART ALIEN FISH!) but you know, you can skip off and get some more tea/wine when those bits are on.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:30 (twenty years ago)

See, I would love to watch the alien merpeople but Ed just whines and begs for Man TV.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

i know not what Man TV is. is it foopball?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

I would love to watch the alien merpeople

not that you actually get to see them at all ever.

i think Lost has spoilt all other US drama for me.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Man TV (and you have to say MAN TV in a straining basso) is anything to do with digging stuff up, putting stuff together, taking stuff apart or in fact blowing stuff up. And is quite often hosted by Jeremy Clarkson or some other fucktard who tucks shirts in.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I love rather like this programme. Last night's was a bit slow, but the two before were excellent - briefly on a par with Lost!

I'm still waiting for Tom the creepy cop to shoot lasers out of his eyes or something though.

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
lol, wtf?
