The Incredibly Strange Film Show

Are there any other people for whom this was an unparalleled cultural and emotional watershed?

Jonathan Ross and his outrageous suits taught an insomiac early-teenage adamrl about John Waters, Chesty Morgan, Russ Meyer and Ed Wood, for better or for worse. It had that late night Channel 4 thing, going into detail on subjects traditionally suited to some half-arsed magazine format. And Ross went out in the field, posing by suitably ourageous Americana in Baltimore for the Waters episode, etc. You had to admire him.

Here are some DVDs:

Was he in fact better at summarizing the appeal of his subjects than somebody like Alex Cox?

A few episodes ran on American TV...Bravo or A&E, I forget which. First time I ever heard of Jonathan Ross, actually -- this would have been the late eighties. I have the Ed Wood episode on tape somewhere still.

Oh, and the first place I ever heard of Tsui Hark, and by extension John Woo and Chow Yun Fat (via the Better Tomorrow sequence where CYF takes out the dining party).

I thought somehow, that this show combines many tenets straight from the Book of Ned.

Oh you wise young man.

In case gossip somehow reaches these shores at a much slower rate than cult television products, we can put in a mention for JONATHAN ROSS' ALLEGEDLY PRODIGIOUS COCK, just because it's always such a funny image if true.

One of the few shows well worth the BitTorrent wait.
