Londoners - Fancy A FAP at the Old Red Lion, Angel, on February 17th?

Seeing as I'm down for a wedding on the 18th of February, I thought I'd be better off booking the day before off work to give me plenty of time to travel. So, does anyone Fancy A Pint on the evening of Friday, February 17th?

(NB: this may fall through if the friend who is probably going to be my +1 doesn't like the idea of meeting a bunch of interweb mentalists)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:11 (twenty years ago)

It's in my diary now.

Ah! The Feinbos! (kate), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Yay!

As I said, friend M thinks you are FAMOUS.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Quite frankly, I think I could do a better job of being famous... ;-)

Ah! The Feinbos! (kate), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:19 (twenty years ago)

it's true since even i have an international fan club.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:31 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Is anyone still interested? Looks like I'm coming down on my own now.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 10:01 (twenty years ago)

where are you gonna be, d'you know yet? i have to be in darkest sarf london for like 8.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 10:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm still up for it. Though I'd be up for food more than drink, to be honest. Shall we go to dinner?

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Hahah I didn't read that before I posted on Watercooler. Yes, I am definitely up for going for dinner somewhere. Which means that emsk, you could well have time to join us.

I'm not sure when time I'm going to be in London. I have to go to Doncaster in the morning to flirt with Attractive Kinky Woman I Haven't Met Yet, but I'm planning to leave there by 12 at the latest.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:07 (twenty years ago)

I could be persuaded. Logic says I should have QNI as the rest of the weekend is very busy, but when have I ever listened to logic.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:08 (twenty years ago)

What do you fancy? Pizza? (La Porchetta, num num) Chinese? We could go mad on Gerrard Street. Indian? (Brick Lane!)

Actually, we should figure out where you are staying, and go somewhere near.

x-post, Ed you should come out. Especially if you help us pick somewhere to eat.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:09 (twenty years ago)

I'm staying in Barking. So Brick Lane isn't too bad an idea, actually, because it's walking distance from Fenchurch St. Of course, there are loads of other places in that area we could do.

(and to be honest I'm not a great fan of Indian food - I don't really like anything much spicier than a korma)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:16 (twenty years ago)

I like Indian food, but I've had an awful lot of it lately. I would actually really, really like La Porchetta Pizza, but I think their furthest branch East is Clerkenwell.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:19 (twenty years ago)

well, i am going to darkest sarf london for dinner, so i wouldn't join you for dinner. it'll take me up to an hour to get there from east/central london, so i'd have to leave at 7.30 (now i have to be there 8.30 not 8). i'm up for a pre-dinner drink somewhere?

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 12:26 (twenty years ago)

...well? brick lane you don't *have* to have curry, there is a solitary chinese just by the lane that leads to shoreditch tube station. or you can go for curry and just get nummy korma*.

we could go to the golden heart and see if we can spot tracey emin or gilbert & george.

*i assume it's nummy, i dig the spiciness so i never get korma cos it seems sort of a waste to me. but friends do and seem as happy with it as i am with my jalfrezi.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:04 (twenty years ago)

I'd be grateful if *someone* at least could meet me at Fenchurch St, because I don't know that part of London particularly well.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:05 (twenty years ago)

I don't get out of work until 6.30/7, though...

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:08 (twenty years ago)

why do you want to get off at fenchurch st? if you're going to brick lane you want aldgate east or liverpool street, if you like the sound of the golden heart, liverpool st. i can come meet you if you like.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Not you, then :-)

(because obv if I didn't meet anyone until then then I wouldn't get chance to see Emsk.)

I don't really mind going to an Indian if that's what other people want.

Fenchurch St because I assumed the overground trains would be a lot faster than the District Line, not having many intermediate stops.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:12 (twenty years ago)

And, yes, I'd be grateful if you would meet me. Email me (at this address) and I'll give you my phone number.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:12 (twenty years ago)

Have we definitely decided on Brick Lane, then? No takers for the idea of pizza?

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:14 (twenty years ago)

i'm not stayin for dinner so you guys fight that location out between yourselves! i can be wherever for i have BIKE POWER, so long as i leave at 7.30. you could go to la porchetta in clerkenwell for dinner and we could go to the angel pub (i am suggesting this because as well as being 5 mins walk from clerkenwell la porchetta it is uber-cheap and i is broke) opposite angel tube beforehand?

ok see what you mean about overland > district line, but once you get to fenchurch st get on the circle line to liverpool st, it'll make the whole thing quicker. or if we decide to go to angel get circle line to kings cross then northern line/buses 73/30/214/i think one more up to angel. hurrah checkit, we have made another london transport thread!

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

That sounds like an idea. I could probably get out of work in time to meet you about 7 at Angel. If you could escort FP from train station to Angel, then I can pick him up there and we can go to Clerkenwell La Porchetta for pizza.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:21 (twenty years ago)

If we're meeting at Liverpool Street it would be quicker to walk there from Fenchurch Street than walk to Tower Hill and wait for a Circle Line train.

I don't mind where we go for dinner really, but I think I'd probably prefer pizza to indian. Which, of course, makes that irrelevant, if we'll be meeting at Angel for pizza.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:24 (twenty years ago)

this smells more and more like a plan to me. i can't escort from fenchurch st to angel as bicycle not allowed, but it's not hard to get there. journeyplanner is suggesting you get the 40 to monument/bank, then nothern line to angel, which sounds quite reasonable. i can be at angel for 6 or 6.30 or whatever.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

old red lion?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Well, I can find my way to Angel station, if y'all want to meet me there.

At least *someone* should give me their phone number, so that if I am majorly delayed on my way into London I can get in touch.

(again, I feel it would be quicker to walk to Bank than get a bus)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:40 (twenty years ago)

mailed you my number, fp. now i am off to experiment with a new soup.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Ta. See you tomorrow!

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Old Red Lion, what? After Pizza, do you mean, Ed? (and which one do you mean?)

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:46 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking as a meeting place. IT's the oposite side of the junction from Angel (towards St John St/Rosebery Av.)and much nicer than any of the pubs front and central in Angel.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Well, Emsk suggested The Angel because she is skint, even though it's not very nice.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

(Though I'm sure she'd be coerced to go elsewhere if one of us bought her a drink at posher pub.)

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:49 (twenty years ago)

ORL is not too pricey, not whetherspoons cheap but pretty good.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 February 2006 14:50 (twenty years ago)

shame it isn't today.. the bar room bar does 2-4-1 cocktails on thurs. they only do normally priced cocktails on fridays so no help.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)

but then again you guys should go to chapel bar obv!

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm down with ORL.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:06 (twenty years ago)

O RLY?

the kit! (g-kit), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:06 (twenty years ago)

I appear to have talked my self out of staying in haven't I?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm down with ORL.

Does this mean you want to go there, or you don't want to? I don't understand all this modern slang.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:12 (twenty years ago)

I am agreeing to go there. I cannot resist the idea of getting to have supergeeky train conversations with you and Ed all night. :-)

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:14 (twenty years ago)

OK, I'll ask on the mod board for someone to add the Old Red Lion to the thread title.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Bump - if anyone else wants to come along and doesn't know how to get in touch with anyone, email me now (or before 9am tomorrow) and I'll give you my phone number.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Thursday, 16 February 2006 21:36 (twenty years ago)

'nother bump just in case anyone's here who didn't know it was happening.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 17 February 2006 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Will be there 7ish I guess, have to do work drinks beforehand.

Ed (dali), Friday, 17 February 2006 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I should be out of work by 6.30 considering how early I got in - may take me 15, 20 minutes to get up there depending on the busses.
