How easy is it for a student to go back and forth between Brooklyn and Greenwich Village?

I'm planning on attending college in Greenwich Village next year, and my best friend will be attending college in Brooklyn. Neither of us is familiar with the NYC area, but we hope to see each other every one-two days. How easy will this be, and what is the best way to go about it? Also, how long will the ride be?

Thanks.

"best friend"

Depends where in Brooklyn -- it's a big place.

Aw, give him a break (xpost)

it should be pretty easy, but the length of commute depends on the part of brooklyn. i live in downtown brooklyn and the train ride to the east village takes about 20 minutes if there are no delays.

just about every major train line goes to that nebulous mass called "greenwich village" though.

Wait - I didn't understand the "best friend" tease?

But anyway...she is going to be attending Pratt, if that gives you a better idea. Should it still be about 20 minutes or so?

Bobby McAlliff, Wednesday, 11 January 2006 01:38 (twenty years ago)

that's near the g train, and you'd transfer to the a train to get to manhattan... so, 30-40 minutes, conservatively?

It's easy, yes. You will see each other often.

Wait - I didn't understand the "best friend" tease?

that's just jaxon's sexual anxiety, no worries.

c train from clinton-washington to west 4th = 20 minutes.

Get on whatever you're close to in Brooklyn and get off at Christopher Street or Houston. Not that far.

It really comes down to where YOU are, duder... there are only, like 3 options out of Pratt...

Hurting may back me up on this: You'd prolly be better off in the dirty jersey.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 03:35 (twenty years ago)

that doesn't even make any sense.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 03:57 (twenty years ago)

park slope to village (west fourth) take 20-30 minutes depending on a bazillion variables like construction, traffic, barely missing the train (like botching a roll in D&D), latenights, etc.

fuck a jersey. all the cool people live in brooklyn, obv!@!

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 03:58 (twenty years ago)

dudes he's not asking where to fuckin' live!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 04:01 (twenty years ago)

yeah, I guess he isn't.
But if he were, it makes plenty sense: I go to work in the east village in a thirty minute jaunt and pay a healthy chunk less rent.
Just word to the wise and all that.

He can afford to go to school "in Greenwich Village" then he can likely afford to live there...

I always assume everyone's as broke as me.
This being New York that's often not the case: a few weeks ago, I discovered that my intern owns a west village apartment in a building where I used to be the doorman.

he could be going to cooper union where the tuition is 100% subsidized.

"He can afford to go to school "in Greenwich Village" then he can likely afford to live there..."

Haha, I wouldn't go THAT far (or even attempt to). Tuition is $27,000 but that's about what private colleges average these days, at least north of Virginia. And the reason I said "...planning on attending" in my original message is that I'm waiting for my financial aid package before making final decisions.

Thanks for the info though, guys. 20-30 minutes isn't too bad.

The school in question, by the way, is Eugene Lang.

i hear that. (also, APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS!)

The New York Subway is officially the world's most confusing mass transit system. Bear that in mind.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 11:58 (twenty years ago)

it's confusing if you are a tard, anyone who reads can get around easily

malm is money, Thursday, 12 January 2006 07:18 (twenty years ago)

It is only confusing when there are weird schedule changes or a section of track is running "ping pong" style and even then, just get the fuck over your social anxiety and ask. It is really simple.
