To drink our 40s that is. Make mine St. Ides.

Feel weird starting one of these threads, that's Luna's job. But I'm sure she'll understand. I'll try to bring it up anytime I'm on the board so maybe our lost sheep will return.

Now, I'm off to wash dishes. Then open another 40 'cause it's Friday, bitch! Peace.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 13 January 2006 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I've never knowingly had a 40.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 13 January 2006 17:53 (twenty years ago)

oh well, you're missing out my friend. If I still lived in Dallas I'd invite you to share one sitting on the front steps while watching vets go to AA meetings at the halfway house across the street. Classic.

Are there no 40s in the UK?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 13 January 2006 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Mind if I make mine cider, instead?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:01 (twenty years ago)

I don't think so (xpost)! We don't tend to measure things in fluid ounces - it's all (milli)litres over here. A 40 is about 1.2 liters i think, and I can't think of any beers or similar bottled in this size. There has been a fad of oversized bottles lately, but these tend to be 660ml or 750ml, I think.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:02 (twenty years ago)

http://www.metrotimes.com/sb/91516/b8stopone.jpg

40s are malt liqour which has a higher alcohol content than regular beer. cheaper too. A 40 is usually only 2 or 3 bucks. Cheap, nasty drunk.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:15 (twenty years ago)

mmm ice cold 40s. can't wait for summer.

My son peed in his face this morning, it was great.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Don't encourage that!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:42 (twenty years ago)

haha teeny!

sgs (sgs), Friday, 13 January 2006 18:43 (twenty years ago)

wait did he pee in his own face or yours?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I don't envy little boys for that ability.

I've never had a 40 either. I tend to get wasted off a 1/2 of a regular beer anyway though.

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

It's more of a liability than an ability, Sarah.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:33 (twenty years ago)

he peed in his own face, got himself good too. Man was he mad.

The next time I changed him, he had a tiny baby boner, it was so cute. I wonder if that inhibits his peeing?

teeny (teeny), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:37 (twenty years ago)

he had a tiny baby boner

WTF??

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

he's a tiny baby, what other kind should he have?

teeny (teeny), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I don't remember having any proper boners before puberty. I've since more than made up for their dearth in my early years.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:46 (twenty years ago)

It's possible to pee with a boner, but it takes a lot of concentration and some acrobatics not to get it in yr own eyes.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:50 (twenty years ago)

It's possible to pee w/ boner, but it takes Mondo concentration and even more acrobatics to get the stream to go anywhere but straight up. Not recommended.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Babies get them - when they have to pee, when cold air hits 'em, whatever. Baby bones are indeed a little bit weird. If it starts going up when you uncover it, chances are he's getting ready to pee again. Boys don't care - they'll pee on anyone at anytime.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Well done, folks. We went from 40's to pissing to infatile watersports in no time.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:56 (twenty years ago)

And we drew Luna out!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 13 January 2006 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Dammit!

luna (luna.c), Friday, 13 January 2006 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Good Monday everyone!

It's technically a holiday here so some Americans might be at home I guess. G. doesn't get the day off, and I'm always here so it's a normal day for me.

I way overslept this morning after many long dreams about high school, old jobs, old friends. weird. am I going to die or something today? Was that my life's flashback?

How was the weekend for everybody? We spent most of it driving around looking at houses with G. asking, "would you want to live here? here?" I don't care a whole lot. I like porches, lots of windows and no carpet. But if you're buying that's all stuff that can be changed, right? Instead we made copious notes about the state of the neigborhood and any signs of gentrification. I also kept my eyes open for the closest schools and made note to look them up. (although I expect them all to be not good.)

Now, I have this house to clean. The kichen looks like the apocolypse hit and there isn't a clean dish in the house. The laundry is also toppling and refridgerator is bare. arrggh!I can only do so much in one day! I have to watch Tyra and Oprah!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 16 January 2006 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Just found out that Brokeback Mtn has not played here and local theatres have ZERO plans to bring it here. Weird. This is like Gay Cowboy central.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:01 (twenty years ago)

haha!

look for bootleg DVDs. I'll keep my eyes open.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Meanwhile "Just Friends" enters its 18th week in theatres.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:06 (twenty years ago)

Ignorant Co-Worker #451: "I can't believe the gays want cowboys now, too! We have to draw the line somewhere!"

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 16 January 2006 18:07 (twenty years ago)

It was my girfriend's birthday on Saturday and we went out to dinner and drinks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Consequently, I think I am getting sick. woohoo!

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:05 (twenty years ago)

didn't you just do that recently for your birthday? How old are you guys? I can't even really handle one night of drinking anymore.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Afternoon everyone! Hey Luna, hope you are OK hon!
Haha Teeny! That's so funny. Although not sure about the baby boner, I'm not looking forward to that if I have a little boy.

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

how's your lil' one getting along Pink?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

My little one is getting big now Sam, thanks for asking. I've got my scan next week which is very exciting. I can't believe come next week, I'm half way there!
Did you decide on any houses or are you still looking?

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Well the mortgage loan has been approved so now it's just a matter of choosing. Couple of finalists. . G.s favorite doesn't have central air. ugh. I keep reminding him if we go we that one to work in the cost of re-doing the whole house with central AC. I've gone TX summers without and hope to never do so again.

are you going to know the gender Pink or are you going to wait until delivery?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

It was her 40th, Sam. We had to spread it out between family (Friday), friends, of whom 25 went to dinner on Saturday, and another friend who was working on Saturday so we went to the restaurant where he works on Sunday. She got lots of loot. About six of us got her a strand of pearls and earrings and I got her an Hermès scarf.

Hi, Pink.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:46 (twenty years ago)

How old are you, M.?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Yay on the mortgage! So is G's favourite, your favourite? (apart from the air situ!!)
With regards to "sexing the baby" (which sounds so wrong!!) I really REALLY want to know but the hospital have a policy of not telling you. It just feels kinda weird to have this thing moving around in my tummy (I felt the baby for the first time on Friday.) & I have no idea whether it's a boy or a girl. My boss had his son at the same hospital & they begged the sonographer to tell them the sex & they did, so fingers crossed!
Hi M! How's tricks? Are you feeling poorly as in hangover mode, or is it general poorly?!
x-post
Me wondered the same Huksta! *mwah btw*

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I turned 38 in December. I'm not hungover. I think I caught a little cold, or rather, that the little bastard caught me.

How many month pregnant are you now, Pink?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:55 (twenty years ago)

Wow. And this thread STARTED about drinking 40s on the stoop, now its all pregnancy, mortgages and baby boners.

Where have all the escapists gone?

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 15:56 (twenty years ago)

Wow, in the photos you've posted you look a lot younger. Not that 38 (or 40 even) is that old, just, y'know, etc.

Mmah back atcha, Pink.

I had a big important meeting with my "new" bosses yesterday and totally wowed 'em. So much so that they finally delivered the cheque I had invoiced them for OVER A MONTH AGO. I think I also impressed the one of the funders of the project who sat in on the meeting via speakerphone, and sort of effed everything up by saying that the people with the money have developed a different idea of what they want this project to be, so it's almost back to the drawing board, which, since I working on a deliverables-vs-payables system, means I need to maybe look for a loophole so's I can get paid for the work I've already done.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Damn Michael, you and your girlfriend are made of different stock than my wimpy early-30s ass. Even one or two drinks these days affects me negatively enough that I rarely have that. Maybe it's the lithium.

Pink, that policy sucks! It's your baby, it's your business.

Houses . .I'm not so picky. The things I like - hardwood floors, windows, decks and porches - are things you can add yourself so no biggie if it's not there. The housing market is rough in Austin these days so G. is more concerned with long-term investment and whether the house could be resold five or ten years down the line. whatevs. I'll just be glad to finally get to have my pink room!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:02 (twenty years ago)

M - I'm 19 weeks pregnant, so 5 months next week. Those pesky bastards (the cold ones I mean) they are a pain indeed!

Huk - surely you should get paid if you've done the work, it's not your fault the fucktards changed their minds!

Sam - Tell me about it! I really want to know to the point that I might have a private scan to determine the sex. I hate not knowing.
A pink room eh? Pray do tell! Of course, I totally approve. ;-)

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:07 (twenty years ago)

you should ask Tom Cruise if you can borrow his and Katie's machine. Pretend you're interested in Scientology.

I just want to have one room to paint and decorate all pink. Hopefully a baby girl could then make her home there. Or a boy, whatever.

There's so much regionalization going on on ILX I might just start an Austin thread all for myself instead of reviving a real bloggy-blog.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:09 (twenty years ago)

Heh, now that would be nice if I could spend that sort of cash, at least I'd be able to see my little one whenever I wanted.
Awww, so you guys are going to star trying to conceive once you get all new housed up?

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:11 (twenty years ago)

Our bedroom is a light rose color.

I can't believe that they won't tell you the sex of your child, Pink.

I cannot imagine living in Texas without central air, Sam. Otoh, whatever you pay out to install it will bring added value to the house.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:12 (twenty years ago)

M's right Sam. It could also be a good bargaining tool to bring the price down.
I know what you mean about not telling me the sex. They say it's because they don't want to waste time on it & would rather concentrate on checking that everything's ok. I think it's because they don't want to get sued if they get the sex wrong. Either that or just to be meanies!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:15 (twenty years ago)

sam and pink, so happy for you and all the changes! Pink, they also sell blood testing kits, but they're about 400USD, dunno if that would be cheaper than a private scan. Getting the scan is pretty neat though. That's a really horrible policy, what the hell is the logic behind refusing to tell you? xp oh that's a lousy excuse, it takes no time at all. I have a great scan of my son's twig and berries, they were right out there and unmistakable! Usually the ultrasound technicians love babies so I bet if you beg you'll get told.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:18 (twenty years ago)

yes resell value and bargaining down are all good. This house is probably a "handyman's delight" but is about all to be found in a "good neighborhood."

Perhaps the freedom of having things how you want it is one of the few pluses with our medical systems.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:19 (twenty years ago)

It's a girl. Trust me. I have a feeling.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Well I'm hoping that that will be the case Teeny. I just have to wait & see. A private scan shouldn't be anymore than £150, perhaps less. It's frustrating because I opted for this hospital over the other hospital that is close to us (which incidentally is the best baby hospital in the country) which does sex the baby. It's a teaching hospital though, so they are a bit quick to intervene & don't really let you take your time.
x-post
Really Huk? I wish I had a feeling either way, I feel like such a failure! haha!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Here a few hospitals have a policy of not letting the parents know the baby's sex to prevent people aborting on that basis. I wonder if that's why they won't let you know, Pink.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:23 (twenty years ago)

I know this will sound odd, but I just had some of the best dim sum I've ever had accompanied by a sublime Lebanese syrah.

Sam, my fingers are crossed for you and Chingy re-uniting soon.

M. White (Miguelito), Saturday, 11 March 2006 19:49 (twenty years ago)

The Four Seasons, Hampshire? That's like saying The Best Western, New Jersey or something, Michael!

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 11 March 2006 23:39 (twenty years ago)

Michael, you haven't really sampled British cuisine if it was all delicious.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 12 March 2006 02:21 (twenty years ago)

A dis on British cuisine by a Brit? Ok, Martin, what would you consider to be unpalatable in the British food repetoire? Me, I still have nightmares of this fish & chips place I once tried out close to my London hotel -- it was INCREDIBLY greasy, like it had been fried four or five times, and not even the cup of vinegar I must have sprinkled over everything could cut the nasty taste of greasy sludge. That night wasn't pleasant at all, either, as I was kept up practically all night by terrible heartburn, and I had no access to Pepto-Bismol at all. I also recall being ill at ease at the whole milk that was the only thing available to me for breakfast, seeing as though I was raised on 1%. But everything else was more than fine. Especially the sandwiches. Oh God, the sandwiches.

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 12 March 2006 06:02 (twenty years ago)

On another topic altogether -- could someone take away this nasty summer-like weather that's suddenly found those of us down here? I would like for our highs to NOT be in the 90s this early in the year.

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 12 March 2006 06:04 (twenty years ago)

we have a lousy rep for food generally, and I've had poor to mediocre meals in countless restaurants. I contrast our usually poor and unimaginative standards with a truck-stop heading south to Baltimore where I had what I think is known as Philadelphia Cheesesteak - shredded steak with molten cheese (Philadelphia, I assume), which was great. I know you can get mediocre to poor food anywhere, but the proportions seem particularly poor here, and our equivalent major-highway places to eat are very bad - I used to cook in one myself, years ago, so I know how rubbish the standards are.

I like chip shop fish and chips in principle, but the standards and styles do vary hugely. I've had plenty of appalling ones, and being too greasy is normal, but I've enjoyed plenty as well.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 12 March 2006 12:00 (twenty years ago)

hi martin and dee! haven't seen enough of you guys!

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 12 March 2006 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Hey teeny! I've been trying not to rely so heavily on message board communities for the bulk of my casual onlining interests. But I'm glad this thread series exists so I can continue to go back to it and fulfill my board-going needs.

And Martin, I'm no Philadelphian, but I don't think the cheese in a cheesesteak sandwich is supposed to be "Philadelphia" (i.e. cream cheese). That would be kinda icky. Anyway, it's interesting how you say all that. Are there no health inspectors in Britain who would be required to drop in unannounced to places that serve food and do inspections? I know that's required Stateside and many media outlets (usually local TV stations) will regularly advertise the highest and lowest scores of the week. Down here in my neck of the woods, there are two TV stations that do this.

Okay, time for me to go to sleep.

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 13 March 2006 07:47 (twenty years ago)

Hi all!

Sam - I'm sorry to hear about Chingy, I hope he comes home soon!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Argh!
Friday was officially a Winter Coat Free Day, but today it's right back down the crapper weather-wise. (the weekend was so-so) Two more days and I'll be on the West Coast, though, and I bought some KICK ASS new threads that I'm already starting to think I might not have the swerve to pull off.
I bought new sneakers and a matching jacket in my provincial colours. It's probably not a good idea to base your wardrobe on comedy impulses.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Chingy is gone. It's been one week and I'm going to put away his cage today. :(

our weather's been down the crapper for awhile - no winter coats at all this winter hardly. grass is always greener blah blah.

Michael's showing us all up with his glamourous holiday.

when I was studying abroad in the UK my food experience was sublime. we had a french cook at my college.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 13 March 2006 16:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, we have food and health inspectors. The six months I worked in one motorway place, I never as much as heard of them ever showing up.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:44 (twenty years ago)

well america really isn't any better since we have guys like this: http://www.healthinspectorthemovie.com/downloads/wallpaper_1_800.jpg

hi martin!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:57 (twenty years ago)

A very cute coworker from another dept. just spoke to me in a very "finding an excuse to introduce herself" manner. Then she came by our dept. and caught me updating my Green Lantern fanpage. OOPS.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

Hi Sam! I am sorry you lost Chingy.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 13 March 2006 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Me too! Hope you get some good news.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 13 March 2006 22:25 (twenty years ago)

I just saw an ad on TV that was all "1 out of every 4 pets gets lost and stays lost. Put a microchip in your dog!" And I thought of Chingy.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 04:44 (twenty years ago)

:( When I filed a missing report with the city shelter they asked if he had a microchip. "Uh no, he's a lizard." Don't know if that's even possible.

Hopefully his days of freedom were blissful.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 05:50 (twenty years ago)

Aww I'm sorry Sam. x

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 12:21 (twenty years ago)

haha my cat just started eating out of the bowl of pasta sitting next to me. I know I should stop him b/c a. he's fat and b. animals shouldn't eat off of human plates but I've never seen him interested in my food before. it's funny! the dog is watching with envy and confusion.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear God, nobody's mind should be polluted with the foul presence of that cretin Larry the Cable Guy. Anyway, sorry about Chingy.

Square peg feelings are factoring in strongly tonight....

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 16 March 2006 07:18 (twenty years ago)

hello

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:12 (twenty years ago)

sorry about larry. :(

square pegs was a great show!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

It's ok. It's just -- most redneck comedians are on my shit list. Jeff Foxworthy just barely gets saved because he's got a funny schtick, and Ron White gets out of it for making an anti-homophobia joke (progressive thinking in the world of redneckdom). But, yeah.

I never got to see "Square Pegs". I wonder how I'll get to.

I've been off today (fully) but have been busy throughout the day, up until now. Hence my posting here. Right now I'm taking a breather, drinking water and watching Martha Stewart (better than most anything else that's on, I find). Mmm, cool, delicious water. Mmm, not being out in that sticky, humid air.

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 16 March 2006 20:39 (twenty years ago)

I dislike the blue collar comic guys primarily because they are unfunny.

it's rather cool here, bout to take missy for a walk.

I love Missy!

I ordered the b1ur DVD last week in a fit of nostaligia and got it today. there were 3 or 4 "newer" videos on there which I'd never seen, including the one for On Your Own. I think Dam0n A1barn was trying to channel 1992-era Beastie B0ys in that one. Oh, the horror.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 16 March 2006 20:51 (twenty years ago)

argh, I didn't even go downtown to try and see the premeire of the new Beastie movie 'cause I figured you couldn't get in without sxsw creditinals. but G.'s friend did and he got to see the boys do a Q&A. :( should've went.

and they're supposedly playing a secret show today and the best info I gets puts it at a big venue that will also be hard to get into so I'm all "eh, forget it." however G. says we will go and try when he gets off work.

What's wrong with me that I won't stand around for 3 or 4 hours to try and see my favorite band in the universe? What happened to the me that drove to Detroit in one 18-hr shot to see them?

She's grew old and lazy, that's what.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 16 March 2006 22:04 (twenty years ago)

holiday! woo hoo!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 17 March 2006 00:57 (twenty years ago)

I think it's fairly common for all of us to grow slightly less risk-tolerant every year we grow older, from the time we turn 21. Some of us start off less risk-tolerant than others, granted, but still. I guess it's because of maturity or life experience or something along those lines.

Miss Misery, as hard as I try, I cannot picture you being a Blur fan. I know you came of age during the Second British Invasion and all and you would have had to have had some teenaged interest in some of the British pop stars of that time, but I find it more likely that you'd fall in the vein of the "female rock & roller"/"rapper" sides of things even back then. Hey, this is something to work on, sure.

Huck, are you off on holiday?

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 17 March 2006 06:19 (twenty years ago)

It's past 2 a.m. I'm alone with my thoughts. Danger.

Could someone please invent a time machine so I can either travel back to the early '80s and live the life of a teenager then, or travel back to when I was 18 years old and knock some sense into me so that I could have actually taken advantage of those younger years? Please? Anyone?

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 17 March 2006 08:17 (twenty years ago)

This is what I do when I'm off completely: I stay up all hours of the night doing absolutely nothing but think and read, think and read. But alas, it is 3:30 in the morning and I am finally feeling the pull of my bed. And if the Good Lord is up there with me tonight, he'll implant some Breakfast Club-style dream into my brain to make the night seem pleasurable. If I couldn't have it in reality, etc. ;)

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 17 March 2006 09:34 (twenty years ago)

today is a holiday isn't it?

but I find it more likely that you'd fall in the vein of the "female rock & roller"/"rapper" sides of things even back then.

well I was/am! Joan Jett was the first music I ever got into, and I started listening to rap over 20 years ago. But I was also raised on the Beatles, into duran duran in elementary school and had an anglophile phase in college. hugely into b1ur in my early 20s. cute. I only recently started listening to them again without cracking up at dam0n's horrible fake cockney accent. Nowadays I mostly listen to just rap and country. such good bedfellows.

last night we were unable to get into the secret beast1e show. They were only letting in people with SXSW badges (the $600 ones), not even wristbands and forget just flat cover. Even all the badge people didn't get in, the line was unbelievable. So we sat on the grass behind the ampitheater with all the other rejects and listened. It was only a 20 minute set. We got to watch the bats fly out while they played. It was fun.

Later that night we tried to go to a party that mixmaster mike was playing at b/c we thought they(beasties) might show up and b/c, well, MMM is amazing. DENIED! I have gotten into plenty of sxsw private parties but these people just weren't havin' dumb townies like us. As we dejectedly headed back to our car we ran into two members of my most awesome favorite TX band who just got signed to a SKATEBOARDING label (tres cool) and they were going in TO WORK AS BUSSERS! They tried to sneak us in saying we were also supposed to work but we couldn't even get in as dishwashers!

me & g. = teh loserz

My lil' bro's on his way into town and we're going to hit up some hip-hop showcases and probably some rollerderby action. yay!

thanks for letting me blog TITWIS! hugglez!

Hello Everybody! How's stuff? (Sam, my condolences on the Chingy jailbreak and my congratualtions to your cat on successfully starting the 'Eating Their Food' part of your feline/human training.

I am exhausted but somewhat thrilled after four days on the Nile. Tomorrow: Alexandria.

I'm currently posting at other threads now. Again. I have zero willpower.

Sounds like the times have been hot in Austin! I would adore being there at the moment but so many things have come up that I had no choice but to stay down here, even though I was off school all last week and I took off work last Thurs - Fri. (They didn't give us St. Patrick's Day off. Though I think they'll give us Battle Of Flowers day.)

San, I figured you for a rap & country girl. :) Everyone needs to have their specialty. (I almost typed "speciality" -- like, dude, I am SO not British.) Me, I'm in a huge Heaven 17 phase at the mo. LOVELOVELOVE them. And the big band stuff my dad was into.

But anyway. Rantage over. I need to get back to reading the paper.

("San"? I mean "Sam". Honest I do.)

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 20 March 2006 03:35 (twenty years ago)

Ok, just heard of a damaging tornado (is there no other kind?) that touched down in Uvalde (hometown of Matthew McConaughey) and is now heading our way, but will apparently lose much of its strength as it approaches our area. But here's the important part: RAIN IS COMING OUR WAY!!! Well, I don't know that for sure; it could be like pretty much every other thunderstorm that was headed our way in the past several months in that it takes its time getting to us and then ends up being a weak little shell of its former self, just leaving us with sprinkles. I won't believe this severe thunderstorm warning malarkey until I see torrential downpours coming from outside.

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 20 March 2006 05:37 (twenty years ago)

So maybe that should be: Rain is coming our way. *yawn* Yippee. Whatever.

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 20 March 2006 05:38 (twenty years ago)

HOLY SHIT I just saw lightning strike SUPERCLOSE to my house -- like, I saw the flash and almost immediately heard the thunderclap. It's moving away slowly now, but I almost literally jumped out of my seat when I heard it. OH MY GOD IT'S RAINING HEAVILY OUTSIDE!!! I CAN HEAR IT!!! FINALLY, ACTUAL FUCKING RAINFALL!!! OMGOMGOMGOMG, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN TWELVE MONTHS I'VE HEARD IT RAIN THIS HARD!!!

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 20 March 2006 05:52 (twenty years ago)

I hope you went outside and cavorted in it! (after the lightning had stopped obv)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 20 March 2006 11:13 (twenty years ago)

I have the f*ckin flu. :(

have been bed-ridden sick for the past two days but have finally stumbled out. arrggh.

maybe one of these days we should start a new thread.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 20 March 2006 15:07 (twenty years ago)

Aw, Sam. You're the second person I've heard of to have the crud -- Mom's now the third. Is there something going around?

And Mark, there is no such thing as rain without lightning here (er, I partially exaggerate). Actually, what really stopped me was the fact that it was about midnight when I saw this happening and, well, it'd been crazy to step out in the literal middle of the night to soak up the precipitation.

I wish there were enough Texans in this thing to warrant an active thread series comparable to some of the other regional thread series here, or even enough Texans with the motivation to keep such a series up.

Five days (and only three of which were actual days off work) is something of a lousy holiday. But it's a start, I guess.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 14:35 (twenty years ago)

so you are on holiday now huk?

Thanks dee, I'm feeling much better now. Now back to normal job-search and house-fixing stress. arrghh!

We're trying to get at least three rooms completely finished - tile layed, grouted, sealed - before moving in furniture this weekend.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Tuesday, 21 March 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Naw, I'm back now. Back at work, back on the frozen tundra (was in Vancouver from last Wed. to yesterday). Basically, all I did was eat and drink. It was fantastic, but way too brief. But it was my first holiday in 5 years, so I think it's to be expected that I was a little out of practise and underestimated how much time I should have taken off.

*pokes thread aga--* Oops, sorry about that, Fishy Santa. Didn't see you standing there. Is your right eye going to be ok?

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 24 March 2006 07:00 (nineteen years ago)

After today I will most likely be web-absent for a few days as we are FINALLY MOVING INTO THE NEW HOUSE! also b/c it's my responsibility to set up the new net but I only discovered this last night. bah.

We are still only about halfway done with renovations though. I have become the home-fixin' queen. Painting, check. ripping up carpet and tiles, check. Mortaring down slate, check. sealing and grouting said stone, check. Add installing baseboards tonight.

yes, a new resume!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 24 March 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Congrats, Sam.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 24 March 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

Should we start a new thread? I miss all the TITTWIS regulars.

Michael, do you have a collection of your Egypt photos online? have you posted a summary and I missed it? i would love an exotic vacation but I'm beginning to feel I'll never have one.

But I do have an interview on Friday (phear!) and I do have house. Which is looking rather nice.

In bad bummer news, my mom has Hepatitis C. They suspect she was given contimated blood when she was in the hospital for her ruptured stomach a year ago. This is on top of her lupus and rhuematoid arthritis. *sigh*

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 01:34 (nineteen years ago)

Egypt photos, Sam.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom, Sam. It cannot be said that she has great luck, medically speaking.

Break a proverbial leg on the job front and post a photo of your pink knitting room.
