I'm participating in this little exercise, where bloggers from all over the place ask each other 15 questions, and post the results of these interviews on their respective blogs. Sometimes I think it's a great idea; sometimes I wonder what the purpose is. Cough up your thoughts here.

And, while I'm here, would some sort of FT feature throwing two (or more) bloggers together in a similar sort of "meeting of the minds" interest any FT publishers, or FT-affiliated bloggers, or folks that couldn't give two squirts?

David Raposa, Sunday, 13 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ft massive blogger meets ft massive blogger
ft writer meets ft writer
ft massive blogger meets ft writer
ft massive whateva meets popstar
ft massive whateva meets paid music writer

Josh is mocking me, isn't he? You damn college kids and your "smarts", I tell ya.

David Raposa, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Those are HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS you retard.

Josh, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have no longer any truck with the weblog community but I kind of want to practise doing interviews so if anyone famous is reading this do get in touch.

Tom, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Damn it, Josh is mocking me again.

David Raposa, Monday, 14 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have no longer any truck with the weblog community

who is the weblog community Tom? why did you like about it before? and what made you change your mind?

just interested, cuz i still get confused about this.

gareth, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The weblog community = people who post and update personal weblogs and link to one another.

What I liked about it = it was fun.

What changed my mind = it stopped being fun. Or rather I stopped doing my personal weblog (Blue Lines) within the community (Groke is a weblog still but I hardly ever update and it doesnt link to anybody, so it's not actively in the 'community') when it was still fun for me but I could see it not being so.

Why it stopped being fun = the UK blogging scene got very hierarchical and inward-looking, all those endless 'memes' where you made a little mannequin of yourself, all those personality tests, all those debates/denials about the 'A-List'. Also the UK Bloggers started meeting up and while they were lovely people there wasn't much in common between them except we all had weblogs. Which was fine except that then having weblogs was all that got talked about.

The more interesting question for me is why I found the UK Bloggers thing made me impatient and annoyed and why I like ILE which is similar in a lot of ways. Different people, different time, I suppose.

Tom, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

so the weblog community is different people to the ilxers? are they those famous bloggers that i don't know who they are, rather than Skykicking, Elidor, Bitchcakes, Bleeding Ears etc?

gareth, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gareth, I think the answer to your question may live here, at least as far as the UK is concerned.

Tim, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Read plasticbag.org, notsosoft.com/blog and probably the lukelog as well. They are the big bads. And ahem, 'kitschbitch' although I believe that was on hiatus the last time I was bored enough to look. Read who they link to. A few link to NYLPM but most stick to the same old cliques plus kottke.org and megnut and those 'exciting' blogs. 'Exciting' cos they've been doing it longer.

Of course the only reason you would want to do this is IMMENSE boredom. Then again, you did start a thread on BCRAN...

Sarah, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I want to set up a blog to use as a diary and to post to instead of sending out mass e-mails when I go off travelling, where would I be best setting one up and what do I have to do?

chris, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i see. i thought it was this, i was vaguely aware of some of these things, without really knowing what the score was. so are skykicking, 1471, in review, matos etc weblog community also? a different one? or does it all count as one big one?

as for the bcran thread, yes i know, it is boring, but i am studying for it, and wondered if anyone else had done/was doing it.

gareth, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah theres kind of a big one which would include 'everyone who has a weblog'. Then there are smaller ones - I mean the network of music blogs certainly counts as one but I dont think it could claim to be 'the weblog community' or 'the UK weblog community'.

Tom, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would call them AHEM 'intelligent music bloggists'. Starry vs the Baddies I count as random sometimes occasionally entertaining nonsense - however my NEW FANGELD SWISH REFERRAL DEVICE tells me that I am the modern interwebs Top Andrew WK resource from the amounts of google andrew+wk nonsense that turns up.

Sarah, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

When I started blogging a couple of months ago I didn't know anything about "the scene" at all...as for the A-list stuff, I don't really care! I guess this time next year it might really get to me, but so far I've met a few cool B-listers who have linked to me and that's enough to keep me happy.

Elisa K, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think what I'm trying to say is that I liked the 'weblog community' in the UK before it started conceptualising itself as a community. They're all very nice people though.

Tom, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think it imploded in on itself quite a while ago, and now there is STILL a community, it's just more closed boo hiss. I would quite like to stalk +0m c04+35, as my definitive book on mediocrity could do with a bit of inspiration.

Sarah, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Unfortunately I haven't put any links on my blog yet 'cos I'm thick and can't work out how to do it! Nevertheless Mr Sinker has very kindly emailed me lots of useful instructions/information re. blog setting-up/formatting in general, and I will spend the coming week or seven educating myself accordingly.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

in ref referrals, i haf a hatful of corkers but left them at work: so for now, which is scarier, to be googled by someone looking for:
"airplane bodyparts", or
"nazi guys jewish chicks"

?????????

mark s, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Now NYLPM has its terrific referrals game I am writing down my best ones - the 10 up currently (or 9 of them heh heh) are just from the 100 that show up on sitemeter.

Tom, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

more baffling referrals:

tidal waves dealing with the radio
free women playing with themselves
Karl Marx strengths about his utopia: classless society

mark s, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BAH this is not fair! My searches are all for 'Careless Talk Costs Lives' (AND I HAVENT EVEN DESTROYED IT ON MY BLOG YET), 'Andrew WK' and 'Afro Ken'! Where comeths the MADNESS? Perhaps my writing is dull.

Sarah, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe all their searches are case-sensitive Sarah.
