Inchworm, inchworm, measuring the marigolds....

Wasn't Danny Kaye, like, the greatest?

Pete, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the court jester: k-classic, otherwise not so sure.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He WAS the greatest! I may be biassed cos little Edna thought that because he and my mum shared a name he was obviously family. I can watch him in anything - even 'White Christmas' (actually, come to think of it, *especially* 'White Christmas'), even 'Hans Christian Andersen'. 'Mitty' and 'Jester' are peerless, of course. I think he had much more charm than his contemporaries (Bob Hope? Nein Danke) and from what I've read, he was an exceptionally decent man. Hooray!

God knows why but I dreamt about Danny Kaye showing me around his house the other night.

Mitty!! What a movie. FOr some reason i always think he is in Singin In The Rain - which he ain't. But The COurt JEster is a gutbusta.

Pete, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

not everyone on this board is pro-xena i realise, but they did do a very good "homage" to the court jester in one particularly fun episode. joxer / bell ring / fearless swordsman type thing.

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

and the "custom inspector" he played w. laurence oliver.

sorry, Onion extract alert. Jackie Harvey's Ou tside Scoop

It's time I shared my opinion on these new club drugs that seem to be so popular these days. Now, before I say this, I want you all to know that I'm no square. I'm not above having a few glasses of wine now and then if the occasion calls for it. However, I've been hearing about these "ecstasy" pills that people are taking. Let me tell you, you may think you're getting high, but once you get low again, you find out that the price you paid is higher than the high was high. Just remember this simple rhyme: Users are losers, no two ways around it. I get my ecstasy the old-fashioned way: by watching a really good Danny Kaye movie.

He was a bit too manic for my tastes. But def a notch up from Judy Canova.

re HCA, I love that a lyric in a film feat'g Danny and Farley Granger goes "salty old queen of the sea"

Klassik!!!

I'm in love with that Bongo Bongo Bongo song he does with the Andrews Sisters that's on the Fallout game. And Court Jester is the greatest!

Worser than Judy Canova?

Aimless, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 04:54 (twelve years ago)

oh my god that's crazy talk i love judy canova. her and mel blanc on the radio is some priceless stuff.

scott seward, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 05:01 (twelve years ago)

but, but danny kaye could conduct an orchestra, just like that longhair highbrow toscanini guy.

Sad to see Scott describe Danny Kaye as 'the worst of the worst.' I used to love him when I was a kid... er, Danny Kaye, that is, not Scott Seward... but, you see, I still like Scott Seward but do I still like Danny Kaye? I can't say for sure as I haven't seen a Danny Kaye film in living memory, is there some sort of embargo on showing them? He might make me cringe now, I hope not.

Haven't seen a second of him since I was little, but I used to love him.

A beloved, one-of-a-kind entertainer who honed his animated, rapid-fire performance style on the Borscht Belt circuit, Brooklyn-born comedian, actor, dancer, and singer Danny Kaye lit up the screen with his exuberant charm and inventive wit. https://t.co/Cwo6xbLVv2 pic.twitter.com/vKqOUmDExP

all i really remember about his walter mitty movie is that it actually found a way to use the sound effect "ta-pocketa-pocketa-pocketa" from thurber's story, which i thought was pretty cool

Actually "Walter Mitty" was on last week but I watched something else.

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 18:05 (six years ago)

danny kaye was/is my dad's favorite actor so i grew up with a lot of these movies and i gotta say: classic. looking forward to revisiting walter mitty/court jester/hans christian andersen. my favorite as a kid was always inspector general, no idea how it holds up but i think about this song like... once a month. should i be arrogant? should i be elegant? or smart? i'll give 'em the fist! i'll give 'em the wrist! i'll give 'em the fingerrrr

Kaye did 3 short films w/ his Russian shtick in 1938, and gotta say he brings to mind young Robin Williams' mania.

i loved these movies when i was a kid. saw they're up on criterion and thought about making my kids watch them but there's no way they would tolerate it.

na (NA), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 19:01 (six years ago)

but maybe i'm wrong. they do like "make 'em laugh" which has danny kaye vibes
