Celebrity Big Brother 2006 - Thread Three - We'd walk a million miles (for one of yz smiles)

Is it just me, or has there been a lack of "Why should people vote for you" type appeal diary room entries? Or is that to come?

I wonder if Barrymore is really out of the running? Seems to me that the great british public aren't the kind to use online voting poll samplers, so who knows, ten to one might be a good price.

(Oh, and in answer to the question, what's the title about? It's the one phrase/impersonation that Michael hasn't emplloyed up to now, but it's just a matter of time)

big brother

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 26 January 2006 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Chantelle 1/7
Preston 10/1
Maggot 14/1
Michael Barrymore 18/1
Pete Burns 40/1
Traci Bingham 100/1

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 January 2006 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Today's mini task: Pete gets cigs if he can go around all housemates and say something nice/complimentary to all of them (without them twigging it's a task)...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 January 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

Preston got tabs too, he had to go round and kiss everyone.

Wonder what Michael will have to do...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 January 2006 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Rummage in their drawers for loose fags

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Thursday, 26 January 2006 17:29 (twenty years ago)

something that was posted on the previous thread:

the charidee aspect of bb had been kept very quiet this year

er, what? you can't open a paper for stories about interpal (or whatever it's called) and whether or not it funds terrorists/the yanks think it funds terrorists/etc. i hardly think GG can claim his cause hasn't had publicity ;)

Are peopple banned off this thread?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 January 2006 19:45 (twenty years ago)

a new thread wasn't really necessary.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Even if his stock may have risen a bit this week, Barrymore is still far too weird to win this.

Venga (Venga), Thursday, 26 January 2006 20:06 (twenty years ago)

OK, I am a bad person for roffling at Pete's impression of Jodie (and at Michael's fake Maggot nose). The tasks are excellently designed for making everyone look twattish this year.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Also liked Chantelle's stern-faced "they are being so mean about my friend Jodie" look until she gave up and there was a hint of a smile and then she remembered and went all stern again.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:18 (twenty years ago)

"well... you see what happens when you steal cigarettes"

!!!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:43 (twenty years ago)

silly

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 26 January 2006 23:47 (twenty years ago)

Pete Burns is flat out not funny. 'Funny peculiar', yes; funny, no.

Merryweather (scarlet), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:37 (twenty years ago)

He is a cunt.

chap who would dare to no longer work for the man (chap), Friday, 27 January 2006 00:45 (twenty years ago)

I can't claim this is mine, it's the wonderful Charlie Brooker's "Peter Burns is what would happen if human beings ever mated with cartoon characters' Only bettered by his description of Marsh's nose as a bit like a chisel gone wrong. Maggot gets my vote, though he does seem a lot older than 24, especially with that grey hair and a lot more middle class than his Newport homeboy image. Or maybe Preson but he's too short to be of use to any girl in any way. I hate the way that Chantelle is being lauded for being sweet. It's not that, it's just she's too stupid to have any finer feelings. Ditto Helen from BB2. Am really depressed that you can only get acclaim as a female if you are really, really stupid. God, makes me hanker for Makosi

Nobodys Prawn (Nobodysprawn), Friday, 27 January 2006 15:16 (twenty years ago)

maggot nearly lost his appeal for me yesterday after getting mardy about cigarettes.

that gorilla suit looked good on pete.

koogs (koogs), Friday, 27 January 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

makosi was stupid

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Come now, Chantelle's not nearly as thick as BB2 Helen. I think she comes across as a pretty nice person (albeit one who doesn't know what a gynacologist is).

chap who would dare to no longer work for the man (chap), Friday, 27 January 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

am dreading tonight's shows. i don't like the exit interviews at the best of times (they are very formulaic) and tonight there'll be six...

am also a bit annoyed that we don't get to see more of the house now that the fractious elements have left and people are just getting on and enjoying it. (ok, pete's still in there but i don't think he'll be as acidic now he doesn't have as much of an audience. i could be wrong).

koogs (koogs), Friday, 27 January 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

http://vote.sparklit.com/poll.spark/961318

Just thought I'd repost the poll thing. Preston and Traci were neck and neck for second, a while ago. Funny, seeing as how Traci is the 50/1 outsider. Of course, it might mean that this has no bearing on the result at all, but hey.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 January 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

50/1 outsider for a good reason, it seems.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Bugger, I thought it started at 9. Did anyone leave before Pete?

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:01 (twenty years ago)

traci

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:33 (twenty years ago)

for some reason, I pictured chantelle and borememore (a friend said this, today) as the final two. thought maggot would leave before presto

o well

you can see the look in bmore's eyes "maybe they love me again"

chantelle to win

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Traci. She was crap.

So has everyone been, apart from Pete. This is turning into quite a depressing show, probably for the wrong reasons. Failure to objectively look back at just how bland they are, for example.

Chantelle to win as a massive post-modern rejection of the notion of 'celebrity', anyone?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:35 (twenty years ago)

Is it only Chantelle and Barrymore left? Those are the only two bets available.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Yeah.

Cressida Breem (neruokruokruokne?), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh god, I hate that 'ooooh aren't we being terribly post modern by voting Chantelle to win' No, not really. At least Barrymore contributed to the house - blubbed, lost it, won an arguement against George, babbled incoherently. Jesus, you sound like Paul Morley on Richard and Judy today. Amanda Platell had a point, on that show and God I never thought I'd be typing those words that Chantelle is just so vacuous and pointless - what has she done really - Christ the girl can't even accessorise. It would mean so much more to Barrymore to win.

Nobodys Prawn (Nobodysprawn), Friday, 27 January 2006 21:52 (twenty years ago)

you care about michael barrymore

chantelle is not some kind of shit "post modern" choice. she should just win because she was the nicest and, by far, least annoying or horrible person in the house

bmore's "why I should win big brother" speech: "I fed them". no mean feat, I bet, but it's no voting motivator, for me. still, far far better than "it would mean so much more", to him, to win

traci was 100 times better than pete, too. I cannot stand anyone uses the "yeah, I make people think/hold up a mirror up to people/am too honest and people can't stand it" or something. I bet a bit of thought-provocation and mirror-holding and honesty would bring pete down, a wee bit, if he managed to recognise it

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Fair enough, I'll be the only one that thinks a non-celeb winning a celebrity contest is a rejection of celebrity. Call me shit if you like.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:06 (twenty years ago)

okay, yes, it is a kind of rejection of celebrity but, for me, not because it's funny or ironic, really, because, I dunno, she IS a celebrity

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:11 (twenty years ago)

wasn't calling you "shit", just voting for chantelle because it's IRONIX, I guess, sorry!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:13 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't have voted for Chantelle because it's ironic, and frankly that would be a really shitty chattering classes thing to do, but I can't help seeing it as an overall embracing of a postmodern paradigm albeit subconscious.

I agree, however, she's become a celebrity - but only in the concept of the show. Which is perhaps even more in the sprirt of Baudrillard than any other argument you could lay.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:16 (twenty years ago)

disregard baudrillard

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:19 (twenty years ago)

THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MICHAEL.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:21 (twenty years ago)

Actually, that's a thing. Given your often precise use of English, and obvious dislike for others using it incorrectly, what did you find wrong with Pete's declaration of "What annoyed me about Traci was her misuse of English. For example, you don't love shoes. You love people. You like shoes."?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:24 (twenty years ago)

love is a many splendoured thing

pete just picked on the stupidest things. like preston & chantelle's "lying". he so smart

think you have the wrong idea about me

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:28 (twenty years ago)

so, chantelle won

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:30 (twenty years ago)

Fair enough, it's not how you come across though. See you at my late-Feb Glasgow FAP to thrash it out.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Haha Jodie's "I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" = "look at me, I'm friends with someone famous" just now was hilarious. See also her fake smile at Michale when he acknowledged the "you just want the attention" fight.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 January 2006 22:51 (twenty years ago)

yeah, that was funny

thought, for a moment, chantelle was going to be a lot less good, out of the house situation, but she was pretty great

the best way, ever, to become famous. I really hope she does remember and doesn't change!!!

this was the best outcome for bmore, too, really. he was the real celebrity winner and chantelle only won as because of she was a special contestant, he can tell himself. also, maybe less focus on him but he didn't lose to rodman, etc. to someone of a similar level of fame

I warmed to him, a little, in the end. much less fucking unbearable, in nonslur mode. lot better when he's not a grumpy cunt

think this celeb bb has been the most like normal bb

brilliant!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:06 (twenty years ago)

chantelle only won as because of she was a special contestant

sorry, just overwhelmed

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:07 (twenty years ago)

I didn't vote at all, for this

I wonder how many people posting here voted and for whom

no-one cares, now!!

or maybe you're outside, w/ your friends : S

RJG (RJG), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:26 (twenty years ago)

i voted for traci's thighs.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:28 (twenty years ago)

I didn't vote (or see it, I was out tonight, but taped it and will watch). I didn't want Chantelle to win. Maybe Maggot, or Pete. I didn't like any of them, but disliked some people more than others.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:50 (twenty years ago)

the non-celeb is always likely to win

for the same reason the public votes for people to win pop idol type shows. but then dont buy their records

terry lennox. (gareth), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:59 (twenty years ago)

she is one of 'us', therefore we like her

she is one of 'them' now, or, we think she must be

terry lennox. (gareth), Saturday, 28 January 2006 00:00 (twenty years ago)

She isn't though, who does well out of these things except those that are already at the high end of the applicable fame range (Jordan)?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 28 January 2006 00:27 (twenty years ago)

Michelle McManus! It's the typical "vote for the plucky underdog and who cares what they do afterwards" tactic.

This "fake celebrity" thing is a bit of a red herring, I reckon - especially considering Chantelle in the eyes of the average CBB viewer was no less famous than Preston or Maggot. And all three of them after two or three days in the house were about as famous as the average BB contestant.

The Barrymore thing is more interesting, especially in the context of Galloway being in there as well. Two tabloid hate figures - one absolutely pilloried before going in, the other one surprised everyone by being in there in the first place, wrong-footed The Sun completely. And yet evil, sadistic, leave boys buggered and dying face down in his pool Barrymore did much better than Preston, or bumbling never pissed anyone off ever Maggot. I wonde how much of this is down to his actions on the show, how much is sympathy vote, how much is residual admiration from old-skool fans. Either way - The Sun is shown to be completely out of touch.

Chantelle could well reach Jade levels of ubiquity, because unlike most BB contestants she looks like she's been trained to be famous.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 28 January 2006 00:36 (twenty years ago)

Where did Preston come? Third?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 28 January 2006 00:36 (twenty years ago)

4th

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 28 January 2006 00:38 (twenty years ago)

Good to see the final evictions were in the correct order, though maybe Traci was probably a better, funnier contestant than Pete - I've still yet to see any example of this clown's alleged "wit", but as he heads back to being a never-was I suppose I needn't concern myself about it.
Chantelle is worth celebrating (therefore the right person to win Celebrity BB).

Merryweather (scarlet), Saturday, 28 January 2006 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I suspect the traci-coming-sixth thing might have been fixed slightly, because of this: The first 30 minutes of the show were pre-watershed, and at one point davina had to refuse to even speak to dennis rodman in case he swore. So what if Pete had been first out? They wouldn't have wanted to do his interview (or show his best bits either, which were very fuck heavy) until after 9.00. With him coming fifth though, they got to hold off his exit until the top of the hour. Traci was a fairly safe option for first out, she was much less likely to be potty mouthed.

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 28 January 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but I tuned in at around 8:50, and Preston was coming out then.

I missed Pete, so I didn't see how 'potty mouthed' he was.

Oh, and did Dennis skip out of doing "Big Brother's Big Mouth"? (ans:yes)

mark grout (mark grout), Saturday, 28 January 2006 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Er, that can't be right. Pete was out before Preston, and I checked my watch as they came back from the ads preceeding Pete's interview - it was 9.00 on the nose. So it must've been later than 8.50 when you tuned in.

I didn't pay enough attention to pete's interview to notice whether he was effing and jeffing either, but like I said, one segment of his best-bits compilation was definitely a "look how much pete says fuck" thing. There's no way that could have been pre-9.00.

JimD (JimD), Saturday, 28 January 2006 19:45 (twenty years ago)

According to the digispy forum live update posts, pete was out at about 20.51, and prston out at 21.10.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 January 2006 20:26 (twenty years ago)

The Hoff's way too canny for CBB! The man is a living legend, he doesn't need to slum it in such a fashion to prove his genius.

I'd like to see Hulk Hogan in there, that'd be ace.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 28 January 2006 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Anyone doubting the potential of teh Hoffster as a CBB great evidently hasn't seen this.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 January 2006 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I will have to try to become famous, before next year (I keep telling myself this)

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 28 January 2006 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Paxman wants to be on it next year, apparently.

Currently watching Jodie on the Orange Playlist talking about how much she hates being judged as a slapper and a minger and how people who classify her as such are bullies. Yet she still finds time to berate Pete Burns for the way he looks and advises everyone to have a fivesome at some point in their life.

However, her favourite song of all time is "don't stop me now" by Queen, so she can't be all bad.
