Have you ever started reading a book halfway through?

People do it all the time with films on TV. So why not books? I'm sure one can pick up the story OK. And it saves time.

I did, with Lord of the Rings. I missed out Tom Bombadil huzzah. Then I went back and read it ah well all days of innocence must come to a merry dol derry fol de rol ho for bat ho for ball end...

The Great Gatsby...I read the first few pages then gave up...and then a few years later decided to start on about page 50, almost cried when Gatsby died. Almost cried when they took Lolly away from Lou on Neighbours just now. My icey coolness is melting.

Lots of people started 'Tender is the Night' in the middle until it was put back in the right order,but it starts in the middle anyway.
