Have you ever started reading a book halfway through?

People do it all the time with films on TV. So why not books? I'm sure one can pick up the story OK. And it saves time.

The Great Gatsby...I read the first few pages then gave up...and then a few years later decided to start on about page 50, almost cried when Gatsby died. Almost cried when they took Lolly away from Lou on Neighbours just now. My icey coolness is melting.
