Heya all -- will be visiting SF again for that holiday weekend, arriving mid-afternoon on Friday the 17th and leaving noonish on Monday. I'm checking with my sis and other friends about things to do, but I also wanted to note that Our Own Mr. A. Kyle Monday's band Carta is performing on Saturday the 18th:

Carta

February, 18 2006 at House of Shields
39 New Montgomery St, San Francisco, CA 94101
Cost: $5

We're happy to be playing at this downtown institution for the first time. We hope all the art students will show up because we like your haircuts. The House of Shields is at 39 New Montgomery St. b/w Market and Mission. It's a Saturday night and cheap so you have no reason not to come! Show at 10pm. Bookworm is opening. Bookworm is great!

I understand Adam has some film or something he wants to see that night but anyway. ;-) Regardless, will be around again, up for any random FAP suggestions for that evening or any time during the weekend, etc. etc. There's an off chance another Gang Wizard show may be in the offing that weekend...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

this is around the time i was in SF last year

sniff

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

Aw. Escape and come be warm(er).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

The film will be over way before the show, so I'll still be there!

I'll only be there to meet kyle's mom though.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

Selfish. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, what's the film?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

BATTLE IN HEAVEN

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah I want to see that too.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

There is also some Bruce Conner thing at the Cinematheque the same night. Things!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

I like the Hosue of Shields despite my rather obvious lack of an art student haircut. McCabe drank there. I might be able to make it to the show.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

I used to work with those art students - most of them have conservative cold war era 50's haircuts.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

Like "the Executive Contour" and "the Republican"

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

I like the Hosue of Shields despite my rather obvious lack of an art student haircut.

House of Kevin Shields etc. Film sounds interesting, I'd be up for it and maybe dinner beforehand, then Carta rock and roll afterward?

Anyway, will be good to see all again -- I'll keep y'all informed about whatever other things will be happening that weekend, I'm sure you'll be welcome. I know Kara thought M. White was v. cool!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

M. White would be even cooler if he could procure me cheap copies of Les Inrockuptibles.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

Again with the selfishness!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

Buy me something.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

YOUR SOUL.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

obv people are encouraged to come to the HOS and not necessarily stay for us, although we will probably be good, and Bookworm, who is opening, is great. with a pregnant wife I don't get to go out much any more so this is my one social event for the month of february.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

also, yes, bizarrely, my mother is going to be there, I think. hopefully she won't get in a bar fight

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

Clearly my sis needs to challenge her to a drinkoff.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

House of Shields is kinda off-limits to me, unfortunately...

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:33 (nineteen years ago)

the owner and I have a longstanding and rather unpleasant relationship.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:37 (nineteen years ago)

Oops.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

Stemming from you dancing naked on the bar, Shakey, or is it, like adam, a nipple related incident?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

more of a friendship turned sour cuz he's fucking nuts and decided I was "against him" kinda thing.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

Nothing more entertaining than paranoid bar owners.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

And with brilliant timing, I announce that I may actually be away this weekend - is wife's birthday and we have one Russian River getaway in reserve from NYE.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

FINE FINE, you hate us. No, no need to explain, DON'T BOTHER.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'm devastated, not because of missing the show (I can buy the record!) not because of missing Ned (I can buy the record!), not because of missing either of the movies, but I REALLY really wanted to meet the woman that birthed Kyle!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

I will spill a drop of my Veuve Clicquot in your names.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

is wife's birthday and we have one Russian River getaway in reserve from NYE.

How uxorious of you, adam. Don't care to see Man U play Fulham? Might have been fun if Saha played. Speaking of whom, have you seen the half-time score?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

go away

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

Touché, though a tad dated.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:20 (nineteen years ago)

It was the most embarassing recent result I could find. One all with the Tractor Boys was too respectable (haha).

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously though, Brighton were practically defunct only a few years ago.

Good for them!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

If you're anything like me, you'll find much consolation with the Widow Clicquot-Ponsardin.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

Also as a former resident of Norwich, I bear Ipswich much more hatred than I ever did Leeds. Their fans are most uncouth.

xp!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

crap! Bentley just scored.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

In all seriousness, I've been really impressed with Blackburn this season. Just not today.

I won't even mention the Middlesbrough score.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

There's always this (potential) rainbow:

Arsenal 1-2 West Ham (2000 GMT)

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

The City game doesn't count.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

I like West Ham more than most London teams and after last weekend, I look forward to razzing my Arsenal supporter friends. (I still think the new stadium should be referred to as the Gooneria.)

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

I've always liked West Ham.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

Damn, 4-3 to Blackburn in 70th minute but that's 2 United goals in less than 5 minutes.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

I should be watching this, sounds like game of the season. :(

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

Also Villa-Chelsea was a draw. WHAT a day!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

I think Cameroon are basically the champions in waiting.

xp!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

We can talk about the new bike I bought this weekend and can't ride because the weather is atrocious.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

Does it play football?

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

1.Egypt vs. Congo
2.Guinea vs. Senegal
3.Cameroon vs. Ivory Coast ??
4.Nigeria vs. Tunisia ?? but should be epic.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:05 (nineteen years ago)

Tunisia are good!

full time at Ewood Park - I will be torrenting Match Of The Day tonight.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

"Does it play football?"

Better than I do, probably.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

awwww!

When I get my new hip, I'm going pro!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:08 (nineteen years ago)

Which corner are you thinking about working?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

Staples Corner

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

Hyde Park Corner

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

I am gratified to note that I've never heard of it.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

In Edgeeware, I presume.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

About 10 mins south on the A1. You could hear the bomb from my parents' house.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

Adam I think you are overlooking the buying power of the limp fetishists by not turning pro now.

Alex sounds like he may have some experience here.

Did you hear it?

xxpost

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:28 (nineteen years ago)

sorry, how is this thread related to san francisco?

nein Socken (nein Socken), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

I did!

I have heard a total of three bomb attacks from that house, two of them IRA and the most recent one an alleged "fanatical Muslim" who blew himself up making a bomb at home - this was about 3 mins away.

xp- isn't it obvious?

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

In a fashion similar to the way that I and coherent reality are related, nein socken, that is to say very, very tenuously.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

It's relented just cuz.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

Has anybody ever heard Alex, adam and I converse and had any idea what we were on about?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

In a fashion similar to the way that I and coherent reality are related, nein socken, that is to say very, very tenuously.

This explains my own SF connections, so.

Has anybody ever heard Alex, adam and I converse and had any idea what we were on about?

You're talking about football in England and bomb attacks. This is not rocket science!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:44 (nineteen years ago)

This is not rocket science!

http://www.astrocentral.co.uk/vonbraun.jpeg

Ektuvally, Ned it iss Rockett Zience.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

Or perhaps Raggett science.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

Terrible.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

Dire. Sub-par. *Sigh*

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

Brave but futile, sir.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

I still love that picture of Von Braun, though.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:03 (nineteen years ago)

i jest. i'm charmed and amused by you chaps.

nein Socken (nein Socken), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

*Bows and scrapes*

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

ONE OF US

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

Is that a picture of Lee Majors?

andy ---, Thursday, 2 February 2006 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

So anyway, in a week's time etc. I'm playing phone tag with my sis -- e-mail isn't her thing! -- and we haven't talked much about our plans for Friday night, but if it's something open to all I'll pass the word on here. Saturday's film/concert plan still sounds all right but knowing me I might just want to have dinner somewhere before the Carta show and enjoy the evening without overscheduling, so planning that way would probably be handier for me. Any further thoughts etc?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 February 2006 01:00 (nineteen years ago)

if all goes well we will be accompanied by a very slow film shot by mr. nordiskillz

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 11 February 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

:-D

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 11 February 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

Yes yes. Depending on what happens tomorrow I might have some info to post here about tomorrow night, but we'll see once I get there, which should be mid-afternoon (though I'm guessing I won't be at my sis's place until 4 to 4:30). Meantime there's still Saturday night...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 February 2006 02:53 (nineteen years ago)

adam and I finished his film last night. I want people who do come to examine every frame of it very very carefully

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 17 February 2006 03:08 (nineteen years ago)

I am embittered by the fact that I won't be able to come to House of Shields on Saturday.

The man who said this was a regular once:

"Any clod can have the facts; having opinions is an art." (Charles McCabe)

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 17 February 2006 03:23 (nineteen years ago)

Heigh-ho. Okay, evening plans are set on my end for tonight -- for tomorrow, my sister has suggested a dinner plan that involves being out in Oakland (or somewhere East Bay/near a BART stop) for a friend of hers who is cooking up fish/chips for everyone if you're willing to pay in $5. If you are definitely interested, drop me a line ASAP, at the latest by early tomorrow afternoon, cause the guy is planning to cook up depending on how many people show up. It starts at 8; my plan is to be there for a little while and then head over to the show by the time of its 10 pm start. Hope to catch folks at the show if not sooner!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 February 2006 02:01 (nineteen years ago)

And I just checked the directions -- jeez, how much more convenient for me can this place get. A block from the BART stop and another block from the bus line that takes me back to where my sis lives. Nice!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 February 2006 23:45 (nineteen years ago)

The show was grand! Kyle and his band are entertaining! I took photos! Adam and Alex in SF and their respective spouses/s.o.'s were there! Emily from Athens Georgia who is visiting introduced herself and is very cool! We talked about Ethan! Etc. And now I am sleepy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 February 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

thanks to everyone who came, it was a weird place to play with that kind of setup (we had one monitor), but I think we pulled it off despite some of us being kind of drunk. Infinite apologies to Adam for me not being able to shut off the windows screensaver which destroyed the beauty of his creations.

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 19 February 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

I was wondering about that but you can't have everything. ;-) Pics from the Carta show will be up later today!

Also a very good time had yesterday with M. White and Pamela, who lunched with myself, my sis and her boyfriend -- all of us sans Pamela then went down to Rosamunde's and Toronado's for sausages and barleywine (though M. refused the sausages, not being his thing), followed by much chat at The Mad Dog in the Fog. My sis now thinks M. to be one of the funniest and smartest people she's ever met, a judgment with which I concur.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 20 February 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

And here are my Carta shots, for those interested.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 00:22 (nineteen years ago)

we are every bit as dark as those photos would lead you to believe

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 01:15 (nineteen years ago)

Gloom, gloom...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

Meanwhile, here's the rest of the weekend photos.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 01:50 (nineteen years ago)

I love Rosamunde and you know it, Ned. Who made you get the merguez?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

Now this is true. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)
