Come anticipate "Stick It" with me--gymnastics movie from "Bring It On" writer ft Jeff Bridges!!!!

Seriously though, I'm also looking for a brainless movie, and this looks like a slightly better option than R.V.

So this was kind of awesome. I got the feeling that partway through writing the script, the writer did some research on gymnastics judging and got really pissed off about it. There's this sudden shift from "sassy girl bonds with coach, proves world wrong" to "gymnastics is on some bullshit."

this movie totally rules

reasons why this movie rules:

1) the cinematography is ill--amazing use of the huge fields of color in gyms, dope sequences where they double-triple-quadruple up all the gymnasts on the bars in the same shot, doesnt fuckk too much w/ jump cuts so u cant see the routines

2) chick is baaaaaaannnnngggginnnnggggg, no joke, and she is diesel, in a hot way

3) ending is hilarious/weird--sucks most of the drama out but makes it feel-good anyway--"subverts" classic sports movie cliches w/ heartwarming message about bein buds and saying f u to authority figures

4) jeff bridges

This sounds like the greatest film ever made. Since "Bring It On".

I saw the last half or so of this on TV about a month ago when I was bored one night, and it wasnt too bad! But I did gymnastics as a teenager so it had that appeal for me, I esp liked their "fuck yoooo" to the judging process thing. Terribly obvious plot but thats what these films are great for.

i just saw this movie for the ninth or so time recently! it is amazing.

also pre-Olympic medalist nastia liukin has a substantial cameo! she looks like a baby.

Yeah, I'm reconsidering this flick now, too. I thought it was super-lame the first time. Except for the part where she's submerged her entire abused body in a bathtub of ice water, at that point I was like, "What's this movie rated, again??"

i love the bitchy girly antagonist, though i don't know if i'd call her hot. she calls the diesel protagonist "pariah carey"!

i should say i am very tractable when it comes to movies like this; i don't know if normal people would like it.

jeff bridges in this movie=peter gallagher in center stage=awesome

I don't know, I don't think Lengies v. Peregrym (lol names) would be a really uneven comparison, very different-looking chicks that appeal to different sensibilities.

yeah it's way less geared for ironic viewing than bring it on. the we're all in this together/fuck the judges ending is totally sincere.

its a nice combo between treating its characters and situations w/ respect w/out overseriousness

the ending is the perfect example cause it forgoes the dramatic big game bullshit but doesnt on the other hand pretend its characters are jokes in a big joke movie

I thought the best part of the movie was the part where that one girl gets her dreams crushed when her mom tries to make her skip prom so she can train for the Olympics and Jeff Bridges is all "lol like she'd ever make the Olympic team anyway".

I thought the ending was a nice idea but really not executed the way I wanted it to be. Homegirl's balance beam routine was hysterically funny, though.

I mean, after the first apparatus where everyone scratched except for the girl they decided should win, I was like "okay, I get it" with every other scene after that. I also totally didn't buy the antagonist's attack of conscience/wanting to belong.

it wasn't an attack of conscience/wanting to belong! (i have seen this movie many times, which is kind of sad, so i feel confident in my reading.) it's totally consistent with the bug up her butt during the whole movie about the ludicrous, semi-sexist injustice of judging in women's gymnastics!

i like how one of the more emotional lines of dialogue in this movie is "i have my head up my butt too"
