Your ILE Taboos

I'm not asking you to post stuff you wouldn't post obviously but to indicate the general subject areas you wouldn't open up about here. e.g. Kate is happy to do the PDA thing with Paul but will not talk about what made her most angry. Some regular posters do not contribute to the sex threads. Others consider the stats cock beyond the pale. Etc etc.

Tom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would NEVER post about The War of 1812.

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I won't know until it's talked about. Then I'll decide, pretty much.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Really, I don't think anything is off-topic, given a certain setting & tone. Given my level of interest in the topic / boredom in the "real world", I'm game for just about anything. Having already dropped trou re: my parents' divorce(s) and my bouts with depression & medication, linked to my visage, bragged about my oral sex skillz...

It's just a matter of personal preference, innit? Not to be a stupid dolt about it. Personally, those "what comes out of an anus" threads are a bit sketchy, just because I know what comes out of mine, and it's not a pleasant thought.

Speaking of that - off to lunch!

David Raposa, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

To answer my own qn - I don't post much to the sex threads, cuz I'm going out with somebody who doesn't post here and who lots of people posting here know. So it wouldn't be fair to post any specific incident/anecdote/preference on that basis.

And I try not to be bitchy about people online - it's more fun off, heh heh. So the Doompatrol thread I tend to ignore, for instance. But ask the right question and I'll let the cat out.

Tom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I never contribute to threads about ILE.

Doh!

Seriously though I probably don't dally too long in the sex threads because I ain't getting any. Unless I can warp them and turn them into threads about bestiality. I try to scatter far and wide and sow my seeds of wisdom on as many boards as possible - but if I can't think of a rubbish joke then I might not bother. I'm all over film threads.

Pete, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm not answering Madchen's new thread either.

Tom, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Me neither. Also, I refuse to discuss anything that comes out of my ass.

Nick, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

PLease Nick?

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm too much of a prude for the sex threads, until they mutate. The rest is fair game unless I know nothing about the subject.

I like food and politics thread though.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can't even read that coming out of the ass thread, so there you go.

Ally, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't talk about politics (only occasionally), not really got too much to say in the sex threads, I like the frivolous and humourous ones best.

james e l, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

this is turning into an ILE focus group

'How can ILE best serve you procrastinating needs?'

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have no taboos except for money and that one went out hte window didnt it ?

anthony, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Erm, nothing, it would appear. I'm sure that there must be some very specific things, but I can't think of any at the moment.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom, Nick, the first step in overcoming your addiction is to admit you have an addiction :)

Madchen, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i am one of the 'regular posters' who hasn't contributed to the sex threads, and it'll stay that way i'm afraid. that ass thing as well, i don't think so...

gareth, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We all have our secrets..gareth?

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wasn't going to contriubte to the ass thread because, well, I was feeling the temptation to say really digusting, untrue things. Then I remembered something that was true and fairly neutral, so I said that instead.

I will NEVER state my actual salary. NEVER.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Definitely self-censor where I think my opinions might offend, and avoid certain topics for disclosure reasons (requires will cuz those topics = most tempting, most likely I have non-boring shiz to say). Related to taboo topics, is tone of voice people deploy here. Compared to communications w/ personal friends, I use more restrained tone on ILE (strayed from straight & narrow re: shaved pussy) cuz is public forum and we are [mostly] strangers. Despite that, some people seemingly let it all hang out = good reading (generally).

AP, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

'cause y'all strangers (about 4 [?] exceptions of various degrees) is exactly *why* i could say pretty much anything about anything. much easier to deal w/ for me than "real life" @ the moment. never say much in sex threads 'cause i'm a gentleman not a beast.

duane, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

bitchslapping someone's personality personally would be it for me - other than that, be it living, breathing, growing or fucking Im normally hankering for a slur.

Geoff, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Threads like this I won't post to.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's easier for me to talk PDA stuff with Paul because we both post here. I'd be far more embarrassed if I did it somewhere he didn't read, and it filtered back to him through other (distorting) channels. Why do people have such a problem talking about sex when it's natural expression of love between two people? I wish more people would talk about sex in *that* way and less as something icky and dirty and gross and scatalogical.

There are threads which really upset me... but we already had this issue out on the abortion thread from a while ago. I have got as much right to complain about that thread being posted, and express my disgust and upset, as they had to post the thing in the first place. You cannot censor one without censoring the other.

Oh, and as to why I won't talk about the angriest I've ever been, it's because it was a very dark period of my life, and one I would really rather forget, to the point where I don't even like to talk about it. Sometimes talking about something helps, sometimes it just digs things up that were burried and makes them worse.

masonic boom, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have probed too deep...withdraw! withdraw!

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Re: Thong thread descending into talk of skidmarks. Line drawn.

Kim, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You have a problem with this Kim?

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes. It's lame. You have a problem with THAT Mike? You wanna take it outside? Huh?

Kim, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't usually post on sex threads because I get all coy and embarrased. But that's not really a taboo, is it?

DG, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry to hear you have skidmarks. It IS lame. Wipe more.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hah. Ever try standup Mike? I mean with originality and wit like yours, seems like such a natural thing...

Kim, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have tried to stand up but I always sit back down at my computer to post on ILE.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

three months pass...
what a fun thread to stumble into out of nowhere typed in scatological and dali... felt like reading some upside-down logic that links outlandish ideas with everyday understanding... no dice - just all you people standing in this waiting room - going through your motions

you will forget me, Sunday, 28 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that is the nicest thing anyone has ever said about us!

Geoff, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, life is just a waiting room.

Kim, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Duude. Thats like so right on.

turner, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude! I know, dude, I know. But it's like, like we don't even know what we're waiting for? And so we're all "whoah, like... dude!"

Kim, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you sound like me and my friends!

Maria, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Like, no way, dude! You so do not!

:)

Kim, Monday, 29 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

never post about american politics or bombing people

hamish, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thats something I have to keep in mind, I am apt to stir. And though I should not respond to her, I wish Di would stop encouraging those pseudo lesbian exchanges. Another taboo I have is talking about what I really think. in most cases, my posts are anecdotal or tongue in cheek.

Menelaus Darcy, Tuesday, 30 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, skidmarks off limits. How about waking up with fossilized stool peanuts tangled up in the ass hairs?

dave q, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, YOU can dave (if you have some pressing need to er.. get it off your chest) when I said that back then, I meant just me - I just don't enjoy talking about extretia... I don't know - it's like, like (sh)it just doesn't speak to me? Yes? You see?

p.s. Congratulations on the grossest posting ever! (well except for that other nuclear style gross mucous one that was Geoff's I think)

Kim, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, David, it would seem that the latter and the former are a bit symbiotic.

suzy, Wednesday, 31 October 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
