It's my birthday next week and I'm depressed

for the obvious reasons. My actual birthday is on Burns Night (Friday 25th January). Got through Xmas OK but don't know how to deal with this. Certainly don't feel as if I've got anything to "celebrate." Has anyone got any useful advice?

stay in. get a book, a couple of records, a movie, some booze, whatever. but whatever you do don't -try- to have a "good birthday" to make up for a presupposed bad one. my last b-day (the first one after alex died) i bought a couple records, got a drink with a friend...nothing different than any other night, really. but nice...in it's own way.

Hi Marchello, Why are you depressed?

Gale Deslongchamps, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Postpone it. Honestly - if your birthday is going to have bad associations then do what Jess says, and also just call one for a time you do actually feel like it. If it's good enough for the Queen, etc.

Its difficult feeling competent, let alone comfortable, proffering 'useful advice’ Marcello. But your request demands some kind of response (from the heart + head), take it or leave it as you see fit:

You spoke of getting through Xmas Ok. That must have been difficult. Perhaps as Xmas approached it seemed as daunting to deal with as your birthday does now. Yet somehow, someway, you found the strength (and support) to cope, to get through it. I hope there is comfort to be taken from that.

You don’t need me to tell you there are no easy answers Marcello. I hope you can find a way of dealing with your birthday. Perhaps being with friends, or with family whose support may be of comfort? My Aunt lost her husband, a fisherman drowned at sea, shortly after giving birth to their daughter. She was absolutely devastated, I remember her weeping endlessly the following Xmas, but over time somehow, she coped. I hope you can too.

Hi Marcello, I know it must be a very difficult time for you, especially during Holidays that we have shared with our loves. Our loves are always in our hearts and we have to remember too though our loves would not want us to stop living! Please Marcello don't give up on everthing. Hugs

Yeah, bit of a guess here, but I don't think this is on the same level.

I liked stevo's post.

This thread is relevant enough today.
