New Job / vacation advice

So i've gotten myself into a weird situation.
I've agreed to a new job at the great place and have asked that my start date be pushed back to March 1st (they would've wanted me to start Feb 15) because I had a trip planned. This was kinda bs as I had no solid plans but had suggested to a friend we go away (to Japan) late Feb/early March. Two days after I accepted the job my friend backed out on me (just before I got tickets thank god!) and really, I don't plan on going there alone.

I'm still going to go away because I've been working for too long without a break - but I don't know what to tell the agency. I'm going to have to talk about this next week when we meet to finnalise things and when i get back & start working. Should I tell them the truth - that I am changing plans and didn't necessarily have to push my start date back? Or should I not mention anything and lie through my teeth about how great Tokyo was when i get back?

Things are also complicated by the fact they hired me through a freelancer agency and have been dealing through them as opposed to me directly.

I'm open to tips about where to go, btw! I'm thinking of going back to London for a week then heading over to somewhere in Europe for a bit (Amsterdam most likely and then somewhere else maybe?). i might even wait until I'm in London before making up my mind about the rest.

Tell them that Tokyo fell through, but you're still going somewhere. It's none of their business, really...

Well, I think it's kinda their business - as they may've been led to believe I had plans set in stone (but I'm not sure)! But I figure that's what I'm going to do.
i may be over thinking this.

If they didn't have a problem with adjusting your start date before, then they shouldn't have now. What you do with the time off IS your business, all they need to know is that it's time off.

things set in stone can still fall through
