This is the most non-traditional Tory move to date. A great way of attacking Blair and something I can agree with.

this is quite a clever move on his part, as it deals with quite specific situations, so he can kind of have his cake and eat it

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 6 February 2006 09:16 (nineteen years ago)

haha, classic, i love it. the kind of thing labour should have done on day one, 1945.

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Monday, 6 February 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

Will this actually make any concrete difference to anything at all, or is it purely a gesture?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 6 February 2006 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

I think it makes a difference; the ability of the PM to act like a Pres, without any of the constitutional safeguards that a Pres has in place, is all down to the Royal Prerogatives.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 6 February 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

pretzel logic

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Monday, 6 February 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

This will blow up in his face.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 6 February 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

OK, there goes any remaining chance of my EVER becoming a Tory.

Funny, K, I'm kinda thinking the opposite!

BARMS, Monday, 6 February 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

barms hello! where have you been? we looked for you at the shortwave set gigs but you weren't there.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

Ems, hey! I've been really all over the place for the past month at work and other things - I hardly go out right now, so the Set aren't the only mates I've let down lately. You and Kate can feel free to gmail me at r(o)ck.96 (without the previous brackets). I don't login at work, so Kate, my chances of your new gig are 50/50, but for actual V-Day reasons (I hope).

BARMS, Monday, 6 February 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

Actual V-Day reasons? Do tell! And dude, you live around the corner from me! Come round for a pint or a curry some time!

x-men

Yeah, I keep forgetting that ;-). I'm sure I can do that this week, p'haps Wednesday? You can hear all about my romance rollercoaster (ew) if you e-mail me (or speak with me sooner).

BARMS, Monday, 6 February 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still waiting to hear if we're actually rehearsing or not on Wednesday, but if we're not, you're on!

Maybe I should have emailed you that, instead of posting it all over a thread about the Tories.

(n.b. Boris Johnson does not want to attack royal perogative - he wants to be Emperor!)

Suit up roundheads and cavaliers...its back to edge hill.

Gukbe (lokar), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

So this is the first step that will allow me to use the UK as a starting point for world conquest, yes? Or have I read that wrong?

Ostrich feathers at dawn, peasant!

x-post, heh.

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in agreement with it specifically because at first glance it's kind of a step on the brakes and, if nothing else, a rather timely suggestion. After all, it's been past due the Tories started acting like a "credible alternative" and all that.

Of course, when David actually expands on this, then the controversy can begin ;-).
