Have you backed your computer up lately? Do so immediately!

The hard drive (cruddy Toshiba 80GB) on my main laptop crashed this morning. Hardware error, gritty sounds on spin-up, the whole Worst Case Scenario, blah blah blah...

The punch line? I had just run a full backup last night. I'm pretty obsessive-compulsive about it too. Anyway, I strongly suggest to everyone here that if you can't remember the last time you backed your computer up then do so RIGHT NOW.

This has been a public service announcement.

I have AppleCare on my laptop so I can get the existing 80GB replaced for free, but I'm considering buying a new Seagate 160GB laptop drive because it's just so excessive for a laptop drive.

Haha! I thought of that actually. The drive has been wheezing for the past couple of days and although I'd dutifilly been making incremental backups of my home directory I figured that it was time for a new full backup.

(x-post)

But then it'd take you twice as long to back up.

Slight correction... I haven't been backing up my mp3 pile because my iPod is my defacto backup for that. iPodRip is terrific for copying files back off.

Er, so? I backup to an external 250GB drive. It runs when I'm sleeping and then shuts the laptop down.
