In an average week, how much time do you think you spend reading and posting on ILE and ILM?

Madchen, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My answer: I don't know and I'm too scared to count the hours.

Madchen, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Too much time. But to counter that, my social life has been resurrected Lazarus-like by this board. I mean:
Strange Fruit last saturday
Lollies tonight
Club sussed thursday
Picnic saturday
I'm quite happy, really.

DG, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dont ask me I'm just a trash heap

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Too bloody long. This forum is *scarily* addictive, like nothing else I've encountered on the interweb, and it's starting to affect my work. Somehow I doubt I'm the only person who finds this to be the case. I am *really* going to have to get online at home, because this month, my online time has DOUBLED conmpared to last month, and it's *all* because of ILE. Christ, DG, what have you done!

xoxo

Norman Fay, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I hardly ever post but I must spend over 20 hours a week reading ILE/ILM threads. I agree that it's quite worrying. I should have gone home an hour ago but I've stayed back at the office to catch up on all the work I should have been doing today. And how have I spent that entire hour? Reading ILE!

scott, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Far far too much. I should be revising for exams. will be less next week though, back in blighty catching up with friends, doing things in the real world, (as if, the only thing that'll stop me is the fact that the house I'm moving into has no phoneline yet)

Ed, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's not my fault this board is addictive, it's everyone who posts' fault. I'm not accepting any responsibility for loss of earnings/relationship difficulties/RSI. I merely have set up electronic temptation.

DG, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Probably about 6 hours per week, I don't go anywhere else on the Internet.

james e l, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Too late DG, my writ is on its way to you ;-)

xoxo

Norman Fay, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Both forums are essentially launched when I get to work and reviewed regularly during the day from there. Similarly when I get home in the evenings; weekends it's a touch more sporadic. No, it's not the only thing I do, trust me. ;-) But they're not on the screen the whole time -- I just minimize the windows and go back as the impulse strikes.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Too much time. Too many interesting discussions. You should really try to get more weirdos, dullards and bigots posting so that I'll lose interest.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You have replaced Day time TV !

anthony, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Given work has ground to halt, due to redundancies as mentioned elsewhere, I reckon that, like Ned, I've always got ILM/E open in a window open somewhere on my desktop during the day, even if it's temporarily minimised.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OK, biting the bullet and making a rough estimate, I think I'm on a par with Scott at 20 hours. I am also on a par with Scott on the late at work, loads to do, still reading thing.

Madchen, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

thought we'd already done this, usually 8hrs a day (all day at work basically). this week however i've been on a course, go and check my e-mail in the evening and all of a sudden i've been on here again for ages.

gareth, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Isn't there some taboo on posting on the weekend? But people do anyways

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

on ilm yr not supposed to ask questions on a weekend, but can reply. on ile there is no restrictions coz were laissex faire motherfuckas

gareth, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*shudders*

Sterling Clover, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

awwwww yeah!

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*Far* too long.

Robin Carmody, Tuesday, 17 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

at least 15 hrs gulp - still, it might come in handy for my thesis

Geoff, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How will it help with your thesis .

anthony, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's definitely replaced Daytime TV for the unemployed set. I tend to leave it on and check it compulsively every five minutes or so while doing my daytime puttering things- unless a really interesting conversation is going on, then I can spend an hour staring at the screen typing furiously.

Paul thinks that I spend more time with ILE than I do with him... hah hah. Yes, that's probably true. But considering the hours that he works, it sometimes seems like it's the only socialising I do with him. (Socialising meaning, talking to other people, not talking to each other.)

But it is true, nothing is more addictive to braniacs than other braniacs talking about ridiculous trivia...

masonic boom, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Far too much time - but I recognise it as a passing fad and I should be over it come September and all the work arrives. It has added a new dimension to my constant flatmate fights with Emma for which i am unsure if I should be grateful.

Pete, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, Pete, you shouldn't, as we are boring people. Well, screw them, we have to live in the same house so as long as we aren't boring each other......

Emma, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Far far too long, my internet useage is supposed to be measurable by "minutes not hours" per day, now that just ain't happening thanks to ILE , ah well, what's a boy to do?

cabbage, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can check out any time I want , but I can never leave.

duane, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not enough time to make any impact on the Stats cock-sters. I'm quite happy about that.

alex thomson, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate shouldnt you be having a nice bit of coffee?

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No coffee for me today. I had coffee yesterday, two cups of the stuff. So I must remain pure today. See, I know the secret of addiction... if I don't do it every day, I can't get addicted!

masonic boom, Wednesday, 18 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no kate - you can not escape, you can only be bitchslapped by the caffeine withdrawal - there is no hope.

Geoff, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

two years pass...
Is ILx genuinely addictive? I think it may be. I vowed to stay off it and I'm still thinking about silently weening myself off it when Uni / Work kicks in but I'm finding it really hard not to check / post. I've cut down considerably over the past two weeks but it's still not enough. I think I need to move into my Glasgow flat and feel its centripetal force strangle me off this filthy habit. *spit spit*

David. (Cozen), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't keep up. I feel like I've been reading through long threads lately and not saying much. Who am I kidding? I post way too much.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, if your boss is on vacation for 3 weeks, it's pretty easy to keep up.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Is ILx genuinely addictive?

It's lots of fun, with occasional human insights along the way. If you work in an office where you are stuck in front of the computer for 6 hours, tis like the unofficial water cooler....except your 'co-workers' are in another state/country.

The problem comes when you are afraid to turn it off, for fear of missing a thread or response. In those situations, get a hobby.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been on much more lately, even so;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I must spend 30 hours a week on here (I just handed in my notice at work and have instituted a moratorium on finishing any of my projects) and yet I am only 170th on the list of most frequent posters for ILE (in the past 30 days). Am I a slow reader or what?

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

until last week, way too much time.

this week, not enough time at all!

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

way, way too fucking much.

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 7 August 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably 2 hours a day?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 8 August 2003 10:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Bit more than that, that said I read ILE whilst I'm doing other things like flicking between various writings, research and editing so all is not lost (even though I probably spend more time on ILX than doing any of the other activities).

Matt (Matt), Friday, 8 August 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I spend a huge amount of time on ilx during the day due to lack of actual work at work. It will be weird when I get something resembling a real job and not have time to post much.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 8 August 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe about an hour or so a day.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 8 August 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

nearer 2 for me

stevem (blueski), Friday, 8 August 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

Two hours a day, probably? Yikes.
