Except the fucking Avalanches. This is what comes of listening to the radio more: IRE. Even at 90 seconds the new Brandy single still doesn't sound good though.

Tom, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Who got out of bed on the wrong side this morning?

alext, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ROAR!

Tom, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Why dont u change to a different station?

Michael Bourke, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

are any music stations good in the mornings? The decent DJs all seem to be on in the evenings.

MarkH, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Radio 1 is the station most likely to be playing tasty pre-releases of upcoming pop hitz at that hour of the day.

Tom, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Extensive audience research has shown that people do not want to listen to too much music in the morning as music = relaxation & leisure time, morning = stressed getting to work, my life is shit time <> relaxation & leisure time.

If you listen to the music played it is equally programmed so you tend not to hear too much new unfamiliar music whichmay equally lead you to wish to have the day off work. That said,Cox played all of Princess Superstar today which is acres better than the Brandy song.

Pete, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Then the Brandy song must be *really* bad.....

Michael Bourke, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If you live in London XFMs quite nice. Dermot O Leary's doing the breakfast show at the moment. He plays all of songs. He doesn't shout inane things and no-one at XFM presumes you have the intellect of a slug.

Anna, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nah, just the ears (noses?) of a slug. Poop. What Princess Superstar? Isn't she a little naughty for breakfast radio?

Sarah, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wasnt too impressed by Princess Superstar either, in a yeah thats amusing, never want to hear it again though way.

Tom, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My requirements for a breakfast show are simple ones. I want to hear what's in the top 20 this month and what will be in the top 20 next month, and I don't want any "except the rap" nonsense like you seem to get on commercial radio, and I want minimal chat shite surrounding it, and I DONT WANT ANY INDIE AT ALL (which removes Dermot O'L from the equation, sorry Anna, though yes Sara C plays some indie and 'rock' i.e. PUDDLE OF MUDD man on a bike Pete you were right about that one.)

Tom, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what i need from a breakfast show is something that so annoys me that i'm forced to get up and switch it off, therefore getting me out of bed properly. this is the only reason to be glad that the stereophonics are on R1 playlist.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, Lord Bragg & guests were discussing the Cathar heresy when I woke up, and that's exactly what I want from morning radio.

Mark Morris, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But surely that's after 9 o'clock and must therefore be considered morning radio as opposed to breakfast radio you lazy swine.(I'm jealous because this week I have to get up when it's still flippin' dark)

Jonnie, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, it's before I eat my breakfast...

Mark Morris, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I cannot listen to Radio 4 on a Thursday because it smells of Lord Bragg all day. He wouldn't last five minutes round here I can tell you.

I like the Princess Superstar record a lot, yes it is funny but its the best story record in ages and the hiccoughing chorus pushes it just past the novelty hell of Naughty Christmas (Goblin In The Office). My journey in is between 9 & 10 so I alternate between R4 (not Weds & Thurs) R1 and LDN - though I hate Robert Elms I like the things he talks about (ie London) - its an impossible conundrum to win on.

Pete, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

formerly i had my simpsons clock radio on multi-snooze until i was HALF-WOKEN by a story abt john prescott, then dropped off and DREAMT abt him: since then i just use a clock

mark s, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just tried London radio, and lasted about 5 minutes. There was some halfwit twattering on about things like "microwaveable roast potatoes what's that all about?" OFF.

Back to Radio one then.

chris, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's not that I'm endorsing Lord B & his incredible bouffant hair - but informed discussions about 13th century fanatics are a good thing to have on the radio, surely? Pre-9am there is nothing listenable: not when the options are the self-satisfaction of the Today prog, annoying woman on BBC LDN (wht's wth tht spllng, anhw?) and the unbearable Cox.

Mark Morris, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i get up to robert elms on london live in the mornings. i like the thought of all those people ringing up to explain the significance of random piece of graffiti on random slab of pavement in randomn area of london.

nickie, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Morning radio = Radio 5, current affairs but not pompous and sometimes rather funny, try it, you might like it.

chris, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh,lady on LDN (you tell me, the BBC are trying to destroy any audience GLR ever had by constantly changing the stations name and putting halfwits on) is terrible. Neither funny, clever or particularly informed her great talent appears to be lulling an interviewee into a false sense that they have half an hour to talk about something, and then interrupting after a minute for the travel.

I've heard good things about the Five Live breakfast I must admit, but my tuner is very funny about AM.

Pete, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sara Cox is HOT! Rrrrowwwrr!

dave q, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will have to buy a magic seeing-radio then.

Tom, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You've no idea how spoiled you all are. This morning on Irish radio they spent 10 minutes telling me how bike frames need to be fucking registered or something. music is all my poor head can handle in the morning. pop music actually.

Ronan, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

me = student

this = exam month

=> morning wakeup radio = chris moyles

(moving the alarm clock so it was right next to my bed was not a good idea I feel)

Graham, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is the guy from Puddle of the Mudd, the same one from Alice in the Chains?

I don't listen to the radio often. My friend says that the Capital breakfast show is good.

jel, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, 5 Live breakfast is pretty good. Today infuriates me. As for Wogan, he's a prick, basically.

Robin Carmody, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"man on a bike" is my favorite new swear.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, Five Live is the breakfast of choice, surely. How can anyone listen to Radio 1 and expect to hear music in the morning? It's all jolly japes & shenanigans and about 2 tracks an hour. That's NOT pop radio to me.

Please forgive the above rant but I am an embittered old man. Harrumph!

Bill E, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I also go for the Five Live option. I listen to it pretty much all day at work as well. Except, if it get's dull during Nicky Campbell I flick to Radio 4, if it get's dull during Simon Mayo (like when that Scottish 'money matters' woman comes on) I go to Mark & Lard. I used to wake up to 'Coxy', but she just irritates me too much (v v easy in the morns), so I switched.

DavidM, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If you want pop, going from a station which doesnt play enough to one that doesn't play ANY strikes me as cutting off your nose to spite your face. Or has Five Live suddenly started playing records?

Tom, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes to all the above.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you brits need howard stern in the morning.

chippy, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Er, good point, Tom. I am now at a loss as to explaining myself - I guess minimal pop content may as well be no pop content at all - I just don't really like all the blethering.

Bill E, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't listen to the radio, it's rubbish.

DG, Thursday, 17 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Radio? Radio? In my day we didn't have radios. Had to get up before we went to bed ...etc

Seriously though, how in christs name does anyone have time to listen to the radio in the morning?

Al, Sunday, 20 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

six years pass...

Sarah names her second son Issac.

Isaac Cox.... oh yes.
