"... ALLEGEDLY"

my co-workers are always saying annoying things like "but don't quote me on that" like it's the frigging west wing, but "... ALLEGEDLY" -- you do hear it all too much. where'd it come from?

...there were RUMOURS... he was into... FIELD HOCKEY PLAYERS...

She's In Parties (kate), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 12:01 (nineteen years ago)

It's from Have I Got News For You. It was their standard joke get out clause when saying things that were potentially libellous.

Jim Rome does this on his sports show. "I don't think that's what Orenthal was thinking when he turned his wife and a waiter into Pez dispensers ... [cough] ALLEGEDLY."

Does yr station carry that show, Plains? I listened to it once... it made me weep tears of blood.

Yeah, we carry it. He's definitely better than Dr. Laura Schlessinger though John McGinley's portrayal of him in Any Given Sunday was OTM.

I can't tell from your "tears of blood" whether that meant you liked it or not, Rock.

Oh... no, I didn't like it... let's just say if he fell into a hay baler I would laugh and laugh. And then laugh at his wife for marrying him and having to go to the funeral of such a cunt. And then laugh at his kids and say "well, now you've got a chance at a normal life, little ones... RUN! RUN!!!"

(I don't want Ally and Tom to have all the outrageous-hyperbole fun.)

I think the divide for Rome is those born before 1970 and those born afterward.

My dad frequently calls me up during the show to tell me how much he hates Rome (as if I'm Rome's producer or something.) I always respond that Rush is just one push of a button away.
