the last time i was in chicago i was only there for a couple of hours while waiting to make an amtrak connection. the first and only thing i did when i left the station was to get an italian beef. i know my priorities.

I'm jealous of the italian sandwich. Seattle has generally lousy italian subs. Most of them are pale imitations of the right thing- like, no oil or vinegar *at all* or *american* cheese on them.

The salumi ALPS is the most beautiful sandwich ever made (after each of my first salt bagel back in NYC after months in Seattle). Unfortunately, it's a summer sandwich only... I can't wait until May when it returns.

i was just chatting today w/an old workmate from chicago about Mr Beef. it used to be around the corner from my work and this dude would go there every day. i'd only been once as it was kinda gross. meat, juice, bread.

i also went to a place in SF that just opened today called Toaster Oven that is an EXACT replica of Pot Belly. the only thing i really miss about chicago is the food.
