What is a good (free) program that can split a long (4-hour) mp3 file into parts?

I have Audacity but I don't think it does this.

Mp3trim - it does it without reencoding the file.

Not to derail the thread, but a similar question -- I have a long .aifc file and I want to chop the end off. Mac app, if possible.

yeah you can copy bits from a soundfile to a new soundfile with audacity.
it works fine.

Actually my favourite software to do this is what used to be broadcast2000 and is now called cinelerra, but that's linux ...

Audacity definitely does it! Off the top of my head I couldn't tell you how to do it but it just involves selecting a portion of the mp3, and then cutting/pasting it into another file. But I am sure you can do it.

three years pass...

I have an entire gig as an mp3, but at only 111kbps so don't want to lose any more quality but would like it split into 15 parts - and it's not practical to split them all individually. Would like to make it continuous but on seperate tracks. Possible?
