anthony as you well know thanks to the sterling propaganda effortz of c.s.lewis, the only anglicans left in the UK are those actually standing for this office

Interesting that although this affects the worldwide anglican communion, 1 man has the final say, Tony Blair, now suspected to be a catholic, a hippy or and evangelical nut.

went to a eucharist the other day and got a long sermon about this. this dean wanted them to go for some unknown guy.

my dad reckoned that the pattern that is generally led by er...the people wot elect them, is one traditional, one progressive etc etc, and pointed to carey saying he was progressive and runcie was traditional, but then my mum (the only church going memeber of my family) said that carey was as conservative as they come..

finally, i have no comment.

I was just on the phone to Isabel and she started talking about this. She reckons it should be the Bish of Rochester apparently. So there you go Anthony. No idea what she bases that on but her Mum is a lay reader so that's probably it. He sounded alright from what she said - apparently there's been a smear campaign against him which is usually a good pointer.

Bishop of Rochester is British Asian - maybe extreme Torygraph traditionalists against him?

I thought Runcie was actually quite radical with the "Faith in the City" report and breaking of loyal support for the Tories: perversely Mrs Thatcher had been raised in the supposedly "Christian socialist" Methodist church.

Carey more conservative politically, but more 'progressive' ecclesiastically, in that he was into evangelism. It really doesn't seem to make much difference to anything, though. Asian archbishop would be cool, I suppose.

Hell, I was Anglican, give it to me. First order of business -- convert all the cathedrals into excellent Peruvian restaurants.
